USSA ANNOUNCES 2016-17 UNITED STATES SNOOKER TOUR

The United States Snooker Association (USSA) is pleased to announce its 2016-17 United States Snooker Tour. Each event is open to both USA citizens and non-citizens, and all participants must join or renew USSA membership ($10/year) at their first event entered.

The USSA Nationals Championships will be hosted by the New York Athletic Club in New York City, NY, May 26-29, 2017. Winners of the Nationals will go on to represent the USA in the 2017 IBSF World Snooker Championships. Entry to the 2017 USSA National Championships is open to any U.S. citizen (citizenship is mandatory).

EPBF Junior Team on its way to China

The WPA World 9-Ball Championships for Juniors will be played from November 16-20, 2016, in Shanghai, China.

The EPBF will be represented by Kristina Tkach (RUS), Dina Fatikhova (RUS), Diana Khodjaeva (BEL) in the girls division, Wiktor Zielinski (POL), Sanjin Pehlivanovic (BIH), Kestutis Zadeikis (LIT) and Fedor Gorst (RUS) in the U17 division and Patrick Hofmann (GER), Maksim Dudanets (RUS), Daniel Maciol (POL) and Kostas Koukiadakis (GRE) in the U19 division.

The team will be accompanied by EPBF Youth Sports Director Sandra Hanf (GER) and Tomas Brikmanis (LIT).

Coral To Donate More Cash For Centuries

Northern Ireland Open title sponsor Coral will once again donate £50 to Jessie May Children’s Hospice at Home for every century break made during the seven days of this week’s tournament.

The event runs until Sunday at the Titanic Exhibition Centre in Belfast, featuring top stars including Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins. It’s the second event in the Coral Home Nations series.

The first was the Coral English Open in Manchester last month, where 63 centuries were made, raising a fantastic sum of £3,150.

Jessie May Children’s Hospice at Home, based in Bristol, has become World Snooker’s official charity partner for the 2016/17 season. Jessie May provides a hospice at home service for terminally ill children, offering care to families in the Bristol area.

Lindsey Horton, Corporate Partnerships Officer for Jessie May, said: “We are delighted to receive this tremendously generous support from Coral. Every pound we receive is vital in the work we do supporting children and families in our area.”

Simon Clare, Coral PR Director, added: "We are pleased to help such a brilliant charity in Jessie May. The total of 63 centuries in Manchester was impressive, but we want to see that beaten this week so it’s over to the players to get break-building!”

World 9-Ball Championships - Juniors

The 2016 World 9-Ball Championships for juniors ended today at the Huimin Middle School in Shanghai. In the boys under 17 category, Xiao Huai Zheng of China proved too good for Mongolian Enkhold Temuujin. Both players were very competitive but in the end Zheng proved too strong and won 8/5.

In the girls it was a battle between two Taiwanese girls, Chia-Hua Chen and Pei-Chun Tsai. Chen looked good when leading 8-6, but a bad positional shot lost her the rack, and then at 7/8, Chen again got a chance to win but the wrong choice of positional shot from 7 to 8 made a straight forward run-out just a little doubtful. After pocketing the 8 ball, another poor positional shot found the cue ball and 9 ball almost touching, and all she could do is play a safety. Tsai banked the 9 ball and make the score hill/hill. She now looked favourite to win, but Chen fought back and played a safety leaving Tsai a long shot with the cue ball hard against the end rail. Tsai played a spectacular shot to pocket the 4 ball, split the remaining balls and put the championship at her mercy. Then somehow, playing with the bridge, she missed a simple 7 ball with the 8 and 9 balls both sitting in an easy position. Chen made no more mistakes with this opportunity, pocketing the final three balls and became world champion. This is the 16th world champion junior player from Taiwan which is quite an extraordinary achievement.

In the boys under 19 category, the final was thought to be very even between 2015 under 17 world champion, China’s De Jing Kong and 2014 under 17 world champion, Poland’s Daniel Maciol. The script writer got it wrong and Kong bounced out at the gate and quickly led 8/0. Maciol won the next game to open his scoring account. Kong won the next (9/1) and an unexpected miss by Kong gave Maciol another opportunity which he took to make the score 2/9. However Kong won the next two and the championship most convincingly 11/2. Kong plays left handed, and his style and confident stroke is reminiscent of a young Wu Jiaqing. Even his appearance is not that dissimilar to a young Wu.

Betway To Donate To Jessie May

Snooker’s Betway UK Championship gets underway today in York and title sponsor Betway will be making a donation to World Snooker’s official charity Jessie May Children’s Hospice At Home.

Betway will donate £10 for each century break as well as £10 for each point over 100 within the break, for example a 132 break would be a £330 donation. The tournament sponsor will also donate a bonus of £1000 for each maximum break achieved during the fortnight.

The event at the York Barbican runs from November 22 to December 4, with 128 players including Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby, Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy, John Higgins and defending champion Neil Robertson competing for the famous Triple Crown title.

Last year, charity Bluebell Wood received £18,610 after a bumper haul of 104 century breaks, including a 147 from eventual winner Neil Robertson which triggered a further £1000 bonus.

World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: “We are thrilled to see Betway once again making this incredible donation to our official charity. Jessie May is a wonderful cause and every penny donated goes towards the great work they do for children and families in the Bristol area. It’s down to the players now to make centuries and hopefully beat last year’s total.”

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “We were delighted to be donating the money to Bluebell Wood – a remarkable organisation that works hard to provide the best possible care for children with life limiting conditions and much needed respite for their families.

BCA Releases 2017/2018 Edition of World-Standardized Rule Book
    
Broomfield, Colo. - Nov. 30, 2016 - The Billiard Congress of America (BCA) with support from the World Pool and Billiard Association (WPA) today announced the publication of the 2017/2018 edition of the official World-Standardized rule book, Billiards: The Official Rules and Records Book. The new rule book is the completion of a standard five-year review cycle and is a collaborative effort by the WPA General Assembly to monitor developments and respond with modifications that keep the best interests of the game at hand.

The most significant changes in the new edition of the Rules are:
Three Point Break Rule - ( Regulation 18 ) essentially states that on the break shot, a minimum of three object balls must either be pocketed, or touch the head string, or a combination of both. For example, if one object ball is pocketed, then at least two object balls must touch the head string line; or if two object balls are pocketed, then at least one object ball must touch the string.
Ball Rack Template Foul - (Rule 6.16, Ball Rack Template Foul) states that it is a foul when a Ball Rack Template, removed from the playing surface, interferes with the game.
Ten Ball Continuation - (Rule 9.8, Ten Ball Continuing Play) now includes that if a player nominates and legally pockets the ten ball prior to the ten ball being the last remaining ball, the ten ball is re-spotted and the shooter continues.
In addition to the revised rules, all amateur and professional records have been updated through 2016. Further, the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame section has also been updated to include all inductees through 2016.

Skip Nemecek BCA's WPA Representative said, "The revisions in this rule book reflect years of work and consultation from the WPA Board of Directors. The amendments and modifications in this Rule Book will continue to preserve and enhance the games of billiards, while also continuing to ensure that they reflect the natural evolution of the sport."

York Snooker Deal Extended For Two Years

The Betway UK Championship will remain at the York Barbican until at least 2018 thanks to an extension of the current agreement for an extra two years.

The tournament is one of snooker’s Triple Crown events alongside the World Championship and the Masters and it has been staged in York since 2011.

The 2017 Betway UK Championship will run from November 28 to December 10 and tickets will be on sale from 9am on Monday 5th of December, that’s the day after the current tournament ends.

A spokesman for World Snooker said: “We are delighted to announce that we will be keeping this prestigious tournament at the York Barbican for at least another two years. It has proved a tremendous venue which generates a fantastic atmosphere. Our ticket sales are increasing year after year which shows there is a great appetite for snooker among fans in the area.

O’Sullivan To Face Liang In Masters

Ronnie O’Sullivan will begin the defence of his Dafabet Masters title against Liang Wenbo at Alexandra Palace in London next month.

Crowd favourite O’Sullivan won his sixth Masters title last season by thrashing Barry Hawkins 10-1 in the final. This time he’ll face a tough opening tie against China’s Liang, who recently won his first ranking title at the English Open.

That will be the opening match of the tournament at 1pm on Sunday January 15.

Snooker’s most prestigious invitation event runs from January 15 to 22 and it has been staged at Alexandra Palace since 2012.

World Champion Mark Selby will start his bid to win a fourth Masters title when he faces Mark Williams on January 18.

Wheelchair Divisions Added to 41st BCAPL National Championships

CueSports International, Henderson, NV (Dec. 2, 2016) – CueSports International (CSI) is excited to announce that Wheelchair Divisions will be added to the upcoming 41st BCAPL National Championships, which will be held July 19-29, 2017 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Wheelchair players have always been encouraged to participate in the BCAPL National Championships. However, CSI believes it’s time to add divisions specifically for wheelchair players.

The new divisions being added are: Wheelchair 9-Ball Singles and Wheelchair 8-Ball Singles. The wheelchair divisions will be scheduled to allow wheelchair players to also play in other scotch doubles, singles and team divisions. Eligibility criteria for other divisions must be met.

Like everyone who participates in BCAPL singles divisions, wheelchair players do not have to be a member of a BCAPL-sanctioned league.

The 41st BCAPL National Championship will feature more than 5,500 players, 40 divisions, 300 Diamond pool tables, 50 exhibitors and 700 mini tournaments!

Higgins To Face McManus In Battle Of Glasgow

The draw for the Coral Scottish Open has thrown up a mouth-watering meeting between two of the country's most successful players, John Higgins and Alan McManus.

Local favourites Higgins and McManus will clash in the first round at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Monday December 12th at 1pm.

The Glaswegian Duo's most recent encounter came at this year's World Championship, where they met at the quarter-final stage. It was the 1994 Masters Champion McManus who came out on top in a stunning 13-11 victory.

So far the 2016/17 season has seen the four-time World Champion Higgins return to the peak of his form. He scored back-to-back titles at the China Championship and the Champion of Champions and made his eighth career 147 at the Coral Northern Ireland Open in Belfast. The Wizard of Wishaw will be looking to further improve his head-to-head record against McManus, which he currently leads 12-10.

World number four Judd Trump will headline next Monday evening as he faces China's Zhang Yong.

Ronnie O'Sullivan opens his campaign on the Tuesday afternoon with a tough test against world number 29 Matthew Selt.

Scottish eyes will also be trained on Stephen Maguire's first round tie with talented Chinese cueman Zhou Yuelong. Maguire takes to the baize on Tuesday evening.

CueSports International, Henderson, NV (Dec. 9, 2016) – The 21st Jay Swanson Memorial 9-Ball will once again be held at On Cue Billiards in La Mesa, Calif. on the weekend of Feb. 18-19, 2017.

Jay Swanson was a well-respected player in Southern California. He was giant of a man, known for his quiet demeanor and silky, smooth stroke. Swanson passed away in June 1996 and just a few months later in September, the first Jay Swanson Memorial was held.

This year marks the 21st year of the “Swanee.” Last year the event was moved back to the San Diego area where it originated and it was a huge success. The “Swanee” is and was always meant to be a social pool event to celebrate the life of Jay Swanson.

The Swanee has become one of the most popular tournaments on the West Coast, filling fields of up to 192 players. The tournament will be a race to 8/7, double elimination, alternating breaks and rack your own. It will be played on 9-foot tables using the Magic Ball Racks.

The Date of GBE 2017 Has Been Changed to March 8-11, 2017

Dear sir or madam,

Thanks to the kindness of numerous insiders and media at home and abroad, GBE (China Guangzhou International Billiards Exhibition) has won the strong supports and approvals of global professionals. In order to extend our gratitude to our supporters, and to provide our exhibitors and visitors with adequate time to have in-depth conversation on cooperation with each other, the organizing committee has decided to add one more day to the exhibition time of GBE 2017 for free.

It is hereby announced that GBE 2017 (originally planned for March 9th-11th, 2017) is now scheduled to be inaugurated one day ahead, which means the exhibition time of GBE 2017 will be from March 8th-11th, 2017. Exhibitors please move in on March 6th and 7th.

Coral To Raise More For Jessie May

Scottish Open title sponsor Coral will once again be raising money for World Snooker’s official charity Jessie May Children’s Hospice At Home during this week’s tournament in Glasgow.

Coral will donate £50 for every century break made during the seven days of the tournament, just as they did at the English Open and Northern Ireland Open. Both of those events saw 63 centuries made, meaning a total of £6,300 raised so far for Jessie May.

The Coral Scottish Open runs until Sunday at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, with 128 of the world’s best players competing for the title.

Jessie May Children’s Hospice at Home, based in Bristol, has become World Snooker’s official charity partner for the 2016/17 season. Jessie May provides a hospice at home service for terminally ill children, offering care to families in the Bristol area.
