Lee Brett’s The Secret Art of Pool Sits #1 on Amazon.com

World class pool instructor makes his book available on both hard copy and Kindle.

LAS VEGAS, NV – Feb. 27, 2012 – Published in November 11, 2011, Lee Brett’s The Secret Art of Pool is an instructional book that encompasses the detailed steps on how to execute the innovative techniques that he’s implemented in coaching pool players to world champion status. Brett has now made his book available on Kindle through Amazon.com. Two days after his Kindle version release, Brett’s book has soared to the number one best seller position and has continued to remain in the coveted spot.

Detailing many of the innovative pool techniques that Brett has developed, The Secret Art of Pool is rich with instructional information that improves a player’s all-around fundamentals and therefore effectiveness at the game. The topics covered in Brett’s book are:

Sighting/Aiming
Stance/Alignment
Bridge Hand/Arm
Backstroke/Pause
1-to-5 pre-shot routine
“V” Grip
Outside and inside the box
Follow through and finish

Each of the techniques is clearly conveyed through a series of in-depth step-by-step explanations with accompanying diagrams.

World class trick shot artist Mike Massey has given high regard to Brett’s knowledge, “When I started reading Lee's book one of the first things I noticed was the way he explained the importance of standing a few feet away from the table and aligning your body properly before stepping into the shot. This is one of the most important things I teach and I’ve learned a new way to explain it after reading his book.

Lee has a lot of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for the game and has helped some of the top players
improve. Although I haven't known him very long I would highly recommend him especially for the advanced players that need to play more consistently.”

With an abundance of instructional pool books currently available on the market, Brett was compelled to write this book after the urging of many people. He explained, “After spending many years as both an active player and as an instructor to players who went on to achieve elite world championship levels, my results had lead many people to ask me to comprehensively put this information in an instructional tool. From there, the idea to write a book was born.”

To complement The Secret Art of Pool, Brett is in the final editing stages of his soon-to-be released instructional DVD that gives visual references to many of the fundamentals that are covered in the book. In addition, Brett has added his Unique Aiming Systems section on the DVD.

Galway Snooker Final Close To Sell Out

Tickets for the final of the Players Tour Championship Grand Finals in Galway, Ireland, have virtually sold out.

The tournament is the culmination of the PTC Series and will bring star names likes Ronnie O'Sullivan, Judd Trump, John Higgins, Neil Robertson, Ding Junhui and Mark Selby to the Bailey Allen Hall. They will be battling for a top prize of £70,000.

The final on March 18 is close to sell-out but there are still tickets available for all sessions. The event starts on March 14 and it's top-class action all the way through, with only the top 24 players on the Order of Merit playing in Galway.

Fans are urged to buy tickets NOW to avoid missing out. Republic of Ireland customers should call 0818 719 300, otherwise call 0844 847 2455. Or book online at www.ticketmaster.ie

Fergal O'Brien, the only Irish player in the event, turns 40 next week and is taking inspiration from golden oldie Steve Davis and darts supremo Phil Taylor.

O'Brien has jumped from 37th to 30th in the world rankings this season and believes he can still win major titles.

“If you told me now that I won’t win another one, I’d be heart-broken. I’m not sure I would continue playing," said the player who captured the British Open title in 1999 and reached the final of the Masters in 2001.

"Steve Davis is 54 and still going strong, and look at Phil Taylor in darts who is 51 but the best player by a mile.

"I’ve still got the desire and hunger that I always had and I’ve got a lot more knowledge of the game. Physically I'm fitter than I've ever been, I do a lot of running now and even won an 800m race at my athletic club. You don’t often see Fergal O'Brien and fast in the same sentence!

"I'm really looking forward to the event in Galway. It will be a great venue and I can't wait for it - hopefully the Irish support will carry me through."

Star Xing Pai Haikou World Open - Day 5

Hainan Island, China

Friday 2nd March. Quarter-finals. Results:
John Higgins (SCO) 3-5 Robert Milkins (ENG)
Graeme Dott (SCO) 1-5 Stephen Lee (ENG)
Shaun Murphy (ENG) 0-5 Mark Selby (ENG)
Mark King (ENG) 1-5 Mark Allen (ENG)

Robert Milkins, the World No.38, put on an outstanding show in the quarter-final stages of the Star Xing Pai Haikou World Open as he beat John Higgins 5-3 to reach his first ranking semi-final since 2005.

It was the Gloucester man's second top eight scalp of the week after earlier disposing of Stephen Maguire in the opening round. He now meets Stephen Lee for a place in Sunday's final.

Milkins, who is one of the quickest players in the game, got off to a perfect start as breaks of 117 and 97 saw him into a 2-0 lead. Higgins, who is starting to find some form as the season reaches the home straight, fired in runs of 67 and 136 to level things at the interval.

In a high quality match-up, Milkins compiled breaks of 75 and 76, to get within one of victory before Higgins fought back with a run of 91. Two scoring visits from Milkins in the next were enough for a superb win.

"I played really well and John played really well too, so it was a shame to see a loser," said Milkins. "I've never beaten John but to beat him like that when he was playing so well was extra special for me.

"I've played a lot better but that was definitely the best I've played at that stage of the tournament. I've been doing quite a bit of work with Terry Griffiths and I've been putting in some good performances recently and he's made a big difference.

"I take every match as it comes but I don't think I'll have a tougher match than I had tonight. I'm here to win the tournament, just like the other three.

"That was a dream, not just beating John but playing like I did as he chucked the kitchen sink at me. I'd have been devastated if I'd have lost that match the way I played."

Higgins added: "That was one of the best matches I've played all year and I still lost - he played great snooker."

Stephen Lee continued his good form to reach his second semi-final in a month as he out scrapped Graeme Dott to take a 5-1 victory. Lee failed to replicate his superb showing yesterday when he beat Neil Robertson, but his 'B game' was good enough to seal the victory.

"I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Robert's just beaten John Higgins, I know him really well and he's a cracking player," said Lee.

Mark Allen made his way into the semi-finals with a comfortable 5-1 victory over Mark King.

The natural conditions in Haikou at this time of year are warm and humid and inside the arena that made cueing difficult . The Northern Irishman, though, adapted very well and compiled breaks of 103, 100 and 71 on his way to victory.

King won a scrappy opener but after that it was all Allen as he got to grips with the conditions better than his opponent.

"I'm happy with way I'm playing, I'm scoring quite well and if I keep playing the way I am, I'm confident that I can win. If I play well I expect to win regardless of who I play," said Allen.

In the other quarter-final, Mark Selby recorded a 5-0 victory over an out-of-sorts Shaun Murphy, who had suffered a bout of sickness before the match.

Again, the conditions played their part and Selby wore a glove on his left hand to assist his cueing. He opened with a century and went on from there as Murphy failed to get to grips with the atmosphere.

"Wearing the glove makes it a little bit easier to cue but the tables still play a lot different to those in the UK due to the humidity which is making it difficult," said Selby

Both semi-finals are on Saturday with the final on Sunday.

Star Xing Pai Haikou World Open - Day 6

Hainan Island, China

Saturday 3rd March. Semi-final results:
Mark Allen (NIR) 6-5 Mark Selby (ENG)
Stephen Lee (ENG) 6-2 Robert Milkins (ENG)

Mark Allen edged out Mark Selby 6-5 to set up a final meeting with Stephen Lee, a 6-2 winner over Robert Milkins, at the Star Xing Pai Haikou World Open.

Northern Ireland's Allen mounted an outstanding comeback to defeat Selby 6-5 and stay on course for the first ranking tournament victory of his career.

Trailing 5-2 in the best of 11 match, Allen, the 26 year-old from Antrim, fired home four racks back to back to clinch a thrilling victory in front of an appreciative crowd at Haikou Stadium.

"It's very, very good to get through as any win against Mark Selby is a good win but to come from 5-2 behind is even better and the way I played in the last four frames would be worthy of winning any match," said a delighted Allen.

World No 1 Selby had looked in command, leading 3-1 and then 5-2, compiling a couple of centuries in the process. A break of 80, though, kept the Ulsterman in the match and he followed that up with a 79 and a 71 to level it up at 5-5.

Allen then clinched victory with a fast flowing break of 112 which was the highlight of a top quality match.

"Hopefully I can now go on and win the tournament as to have played like that and not go on and win would be very disappointing," said Allen.

"When I was 5-2 down I didn't think I was getting much luck but in the last few frames things started to go for me. The conditions out there were still quite tricky and warm but it was much, much better than previously and if the conditions are like that tomorrow and I play the way I did today I've got a good chance.

"I just want to go out and play well and give myself a chance of winning and if I play the way I have all week I'm confident of winning my first ranking title. You have to believe in your own ability and I know I'm a very good player but I've always struggled for consistency over the last few years.

"I've got better now and a lot of people are saying my first ranking victory is just around the corner but it's up to me to go out there and do it. I came here this week quietly confident and I think it's about time I got my name on a trophy."

Lee will be chasing his fifth ranking title and his first since the 2006 Welsh Open and he goes into the match on an excellent run of form following quarter and semi-final appearances in his last two ranking events.

“I’m quietly confident and that comes from playing week in, week out and I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think I could win it,” said Lee.

“I had a semi-final in the German Masters and Ding beat me in the quarter-finals of the Welsh so I came here off the back of that and I’ve played some good stuff this week and I finished off tonight with a couple of good frames."

Milkins took the opener and stayed with Lee in the early stages and they reached the mid-session interval at 2-2.

Lee stepped up the pace though when they returned and breaks of 85, 61 and 76 were enough to seal his spot in the title match.

“I’ve played Mark Allen many times and they’re always good matches. It’s nice to get to a final and Mark will be bang up for his first ranking title,” Trowbridge's Lee continued.

“It’s a cracking place to be in and it’s been a long time coming for me but I found it very tough playing six ranking events in a season as that was too much pressure on my shoulders.

“I hope Mark’s win today has taken a bit out of him but I’m expecting a tough game and I’ve no doubt I’ll get one. I know how good he is but I’m going to be aggressive tomorrow as the pressure is off a little bit.

“I’ve picked up some ranking points this week and consolidated my top 16 position so I’m going to let fly tomorrow and see what happens.”

Star Xing Pai Haikou World Open - The Final

Hainan Island, China
Sunday 4th March
The Final
Stephen Lee (ENG) 1-10 Mark Allen (NIR)

Mark Allen claimed his first ever ranking title by hammering Stephen Lee 10-1 to claim the Star Xing Pai Haikou World Open and with it the first prize of £75,000.

Runner-up at last year's UK Championship, Allen has finally gone one better and looks set for a glittering future within the game.

The 26 year-old from Antrim carried a huge 8-1 lead into the evening session and two frames were all that were required for Allen to seal a magnificent victory. He took a scrappy tenth frame before a marvellous clearance of 104 saw him past the finishing post.

The damage had already been done in the afternoon as Allen weighed in with breaks of 104, 50, 127, 53, 55 and 123 to put the match well under his control. Lee had no real answer, as he looked out of sorts in sharp contrast to some of his blistering performances throughout the week.

Lee was Allen's fifth victim of the week following wins over Jimmy Robertson, Judd Trump, Mark King and Mark Selby, and he can look ahead to the final two events of the season with renewed confidence.

"I played pretty well today. I started out well and put Stephen under pressure. I think when I was 4-0 up he knew he had to play pretty much flawless for the rest of the match. He showed in the last few months how well he's playing and that he's nearly back to his best," said Allen after the most one-sided ranking event final since Stephen Maguire beat David Gray 10-1 at the 2004 UK Championship.

Allen's stock will have risen considerably this week and with the China Open and World Championship approaching, he will surely be fancying his chances of adding to his trophy cabinet.

"It's hard to imagine that you're going to win so comfortably, it can be difficult when you do have a lead as it can be hard to keep concentration. But I think I did that pretty well today and didn't give Stephen a chance to get back in the game and I closed the match out very well," continued Allen, whose previous biggest title was the invitational 2009 Jiangsu Classic, also in China.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet; it may take a day or two but I think once I get home and see my family and friends we'll have celebratory drink and I think it will sink in that I've actually done it.

"It's been a long time coming as I've been a pro for seven years now. Sometimes you question if you're ever going to win one especially if you look at the players who have been winning tournaments as I know I'm as good, if not better as some people who have won events so you have to be strong mentally and I think this will be the first of many.

"I'll be back to defend my title - I'll always look forward to playing in front of a Chinese crowd and they seem to enjoy watching me play.

"As I've said before I don't really enjoy the travelling but that's part and parcel of being a professional sports person.

"I'll celebrate with my family and friends when at home but after that it's back to business and practice for the next tournament as it's a long season and I'm not going to get carried away. But I'll enjoy this one.

"I don't think I have anything to worry about any more - the biggest worry I had was winning this tournament and all the pressure is going to be on other players to beat me," added Allen, who is up to No 7 in the world rankings.

Trowbridge's Lee was very disappointed at his showing in the final match but took something from the week after a string of quality performances.

"Mark got off to a good start and I couldn't get into the match and it went a bit one sided, and ended one sided," said Lee.

"I was a bit disappointed at the end of the week but I have had a great time this week and the best man won on the day.

"I was devastated that I've not played a part in the final today. At this level if you don't play your part, you get steamrollered and Mark could see I was struggling to get involved in the match. If you can see people down then you keep them down and Mark has done a good job on me today and good luck to him," he added.

Davis Junior Sets Snooker Goal

Greg Davis, son of legend Steve, has entered Q School this year and hopes to carve out a career in snooker.

In May, the 20-year-old will compete in Q School in Sheffield, just a few miles away from the Crucible Theatre where his dad held aloft the World Championship trophy six times during the 1980s.

Greg has inherited the snooker gift - his top break in a match is 114 - and now hopes to put that to good use.

"I recently left university and I was speaking to my dad about my future, and we agreed I should give snooker a real go," said Greg. "I've treated it like a hobby in the past but now I will take it more seriously.

"I've been practising really hard and playing in some pro-am events. At the moment it's really about gaining experience. I'll be giving it everything at Q School but I'm not expecting miracles, I just want to learn as much as I can. Next season I'm going to play in all of the PTC events as I played in a few of them this season and loved it.

"Probably my best result was beating Martin O'Donnell 4-3 as I made a good clearance in the last frame under pressure."

Greg lives in Ongar in Essex and has some high quality practice partners close by at the Grove Academy in Romford. "I play with Jack Lisowski a lot and I've had a few games with Judd Trump," he added. "I'm sure they will really help me improve."

And he has also picked up tips from his dad, who is still going strong on the pro circuit at the age of 54. "He gives me advice and I go to watch him play when he does well in a tournament," added Greg.

Q School is an opportunity to qualify for the professional circuit, with the 12 players who come through to be given a two-year tour card.

It is open to everyone (players are advised to read the terms and conditions which are available through www.worldsnookerqschool.com and the online entry system).

It will be played at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, starting on May 13, 2012, and there will be three separate events, with the semi-finalists from each to be given a two-year Tour Card.

Entry into all three events is just £1,000, with those who qualify earning the chance to compete for millions of pounds in prize money on the main circuit.

A new Q School ranking list will also be introduced, with players earning one point for every frame won. During the main tour season, should any of the tournament draws fall below a total entry of 96 (or 128 in 2013/14) then the field will be topped up to 96 or 128 with the highest ranked players from the Q-School list.

The entry deadline is 5pm on March 23, that's just over two weeks away. For more details see www.worldsnookerqschool.com or www.facebook.com/worldsnookerQschool

Lee - Irish Fans Are The Best

In-form Stephen Lee described the Irish snooker fans as "second to none" as he looked forward to the Players Tour Championship Grand Finals in Galway next week.

The last three ranking events have seen Lee playing his best snooker in recent years, having reached the semi-finals of the German Masters, quarter-finals of the Welsh Open and final of last week's Haikou World Open.

And now he hopes to continue his form at the PTC Grand Finals at the Bailey Allen Hall in Galway in the event which runs from March 14 to 18.

"I'm really looking forward to it because the fans in Ireland are second to none and they know what the game is all about," said the World No 11 from Trowbridge. "I remember playing in the old Irish Masters which was like nothing else.

"It's a great line-up of players in Galway next week and the best-of-four frame format gives really fast flowing action.

"I'm playing with a lot of confidence at the moment and I've taken pressure off myself by making sure of my top 16 place. I was disappointed to lose 10-1 in the final to Mark Allen in China, I didn't sleep well before the match and I just couldn't get to grips with him.

"But when I look back to a couple of years ago when I was falling down the rankings, struggling with my game and felt like I had the world on my shoulders, I feel so much better now and I'm really enjoying the game."

World Champion John Higgins, crowd favourites Ronnie O'Sullivan and Judd Trump, World No 1 Mark Selby and Irishman Fergal O'Brien are among the 24 players chasing the £70,000 first prize in Galway. Lee plays his opening match against Martin Gould on Wednesday.

Tickets are still on sale so BOOK NOW! Republic of Ireland customers should call 0818 719 300, otherwise call 0844 847 2455. Or book online at www.ticketmaster.ie

TEAM ASIA TAKES 3-1 SERIES LEAD OVER TEAM PHILIPPINES AS CHANG PULLS OFF A HOUDINI IN PBB
by Marlon Bernardino

REIGNING World 8-ball champion Chang Jung-lin of Chinese-Taipei came through with another Houdini act, winning the last three racks en route to a close 9-8 win over former World No.1 and World 8-ball ruler Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo of the Philippines in the 2012 Philippine Bigtime Billiards (PBB) Face Off Series at the Pagcor Airport Casino in Parañaque City late Saturday.

It was a bitter loss for Orcollo, one of the top player of star-studded Bugsy Promotions, who surged to early leads of 4-0, 7-2 and 8-6 in the race-to-9, winner's break format, dubbed as Philippines versus Asia, jointly organized by the Mega Sports World and BRKHRD Corp and aired live over Solar Sports, Sky Channel 70 and Destiny Channel 34, and also aired worldwide through the Internet, live streaming at www.megasportsworld.com and www.philippinebigtimebilliards.com.

"Hindi ko alam kung paano ang nangyari at halos abot kamay ko na ang panalo kasi 8-6 na ang iskor at isang rack na lamang panalo na tayo kaso nag scratch ako sa pag break ko sa 15th racks tapus hindi na ako binigyan pa ng pagkakataon ng kunin ni Chang ang tatlong huling racks. Ang galing talaga ni Chang," said PSA Athletes of the Year Orcollo. "Talagang hindi siguro sa akin. Hindi ko na sana nabigyan ng pagkakataon si Chang tuloy naglahong bula pa ang panalo. Pero ganito talaga sa bilyar, kung swerte mo, sa iyo po yan." added the former fisherman from Bislig, Surigao del Sur.

Chang finally got a chance to escape when Orcollo got struck by a dry break in what could be a last rack for the latter's (Orcollo), allowing Chang to unleash the big rally to the delight of the more than 200 fans winning three straight racks for a 9-8 decision win in the event backed up by Sorsogon Province Sports Patron Philip Escudero of Malungai Life Oil, Airport Casino Filipino, Hermes Sports Bar, Dennis Robocop cues, Mandarin Sky Sea Food Restaurant, and Golden Leaf Restaurant.

"In the start of the match I was so nervous when Dennis took a 4-0, 7-2 to 8-6 lead." said Chang through an interpreter, who beat fellow countryman Chei Wei Fu, 11-6, in an all-Taiwan finals to emerged over-all champion in the 2012 World 8-ball Championship last February 17 in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

"However i didn't lose hope because of the winner's break format. Maybe it can turn around the situation but i need to play solid," he added.

Chang also lift Team Asia into a 3-1 lead against Team Philippines in the Philippine Bigtime Billiards introduces a fresh new format for 2012 in this event also supported by
Bugsy Promotions, Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) and The Philippine Star as official media partner.

It shall be recalled that last February 18, Ko Pin-yi of Chinese-Taipei downed Filipino pool maestro Efren "Bata" Reyes, 9-4. However, Francisco "Django" Bustamante pull off a come-from-behind win against Ko, 9-7, last February 25 to avenged the loss of his fellow Puyat Sports player Reyes. Chang, on the other hand beat Lee Vann "The Slayer" Corteza, 9-7, last March 3.

Meanwhile, the PBB Face Off series resumes with a match pitting Yang Ching-shun of Chinese-Taipei against Carlo Biado on March 17. After that, Yang takes on Francisco "Django" Bustamante on March 24, and Chang Yu Long of Chinese-Taipei will then face off against Ronato Alcano on March 31.

2012 US Mosconi Cup Rankings Latest

Shane dominates to move clear of the pack

SHANE VAN BOENING once again showed that he is the dominant force in American pool as he took down the Players Championship at Super Billiards Expo at Valley Forge to surge ahead of the field in the race for one of the two automatic spots in the 2012 American Mosconi Cup team.

"The South Dakota Kid" has now won the opening two events on the five tournament ranking series and no one would bet against him adding to that tally as the series unfolds.

Taking the second spot is Stevie Moore who shot up seven places courtesy of his runners-up finish, and he is 46 points clear of Dennis Hatch in third place with Brandon Shuff and Mike Dechaine filling out the fourth and fifth positions.

The remaining three players will be Matchroom Sport wildcard picks although the ranking will play a part in this.

The next qualifying event is the US Open 10-Ball Championship which takes place in Las Vegas from 14-19 May.

RANOLA BEAT DOS SANTOS TO ENTER LAST 24; AMIT VOWS TO CHINA'S CHEN IN WOMEN'S WORLD 9-BALL
by Marlon Bernardino

THE Philippines' Iris "Fighter" Ranola remained on track for a first world title as the Zamboanga native stormed into the Last 24 of the 12 AMWAY eSpring Women’s World 9-Ball Open Championship Saturday in Taipei, Taiwan.

The reigning Southeast Asian Games double gold medallist Ranola, playing under the banner of sportsman/businessman Aristeo "Putch" Puyat, reached the Final 24 after posting a 3-2 win-loss card in the single round eliminations in Group stage, which is composed of six players.

"I hope Iris (Ranola) keeps her winning streak," Puyat said.

Ranola defeated Laetitia Dos Santos of France, 7-5, in a do-or-die match to progress.

"Laetitia (Dos Santos) is a strong player but I played better in the end game," said Ranola, PSA awardee.

Ranola opened her campaign in sizzling fashion, posting big wins against heavyweight Fu Xiao-Fang of China, 7-4. She lost to Bo-Ra Jung of Korea, 1-7, then bounced back by beating Mirjana Grujicic of Venezuela, 7-2, before losing to Chieh-Yu Chou of Chinese-Taipei, 0-7. Ranola edged Dos Santos, 7-5, to book a seat to the Last 24.

"I am targetting Top 16," said Ranola, former National Open womens champion.

However, compatriot and fellow Puyat Sports team mate and former Women's World 10-ball champion Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit failed to advance in the knock-out stage. The Cebuana bet Amit fell to Si-ming Chen of China, 1-7, in a must win situation. Amit finished 2-3 win-loss card in the group play.

She beat Magda Kleingeld of Republic of South Africa, 7-0, and Kaori Ebe of Japan, 7-3, in the first two matches but fell to Ya-Ting Chan of Chinese-Taipei 5-7, Han-Ru Yang of China, 2-7, and Chen, 1-7, respectively.

Christine "Ish" Caparras of Puyat Sports is the Philippine Delegation head in the tournament, which has a total purse of $70,000, is sanctioned by WPA and organized by Chinese Taipei Billiards Federation (CTBF).

Philippine Billiards God Father Aristeo “Putch” Puyat bankrolled Amit and Ranola Taiwan campaign. The champion will get the $20,000 top prize, while the runner-up will settle for $10,000.

by Marlon Bernardino

IRIS "Fighter" Ranola, the reigning Southeast Asian Games double gold medallist bowed out of contention in the 2012 AMWAY eSpring Women’s World 9-Ball Open Championship Saturday at the Cue Master Pool Club in Taipei, Taiwan.

Hui-Shan Lai of Chinese-Taipei ended Ranola's bid for a possible first world title, ousting the top Filipino bet, 7-2, in the Last 24.

The Zamboanga native Ranola, playing under the banner of sportsman/businessman Aristeo "Putch" Puyat, reached the Final 24 after posting a 3-2 win-loss card in the single round eliminations in Group stage, which is composed of six players.

Ranola defeated Laetitia Dos Santos of France, 7-5, in a do-or-die match to progress. Earlier, another Filipina cue artist from Puyat Sports stable, Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit, was ousted by Si-ming Chen of China, 1-7, in a must win situation. The 2009 Women's World 10-ball ruler Amit finished 2-3 win-loss card in the group play.

The Cebuana ace Amit beat Magda Kleingeld of Republic of South Africa, 7-0, and Kaori Ebe of Japan, 7-3, in the first two matches but fell to Ya-Ting Chan of Chinese-Taipei 5-7, Han-Ru Yang of China, 2-7, and Chen, 1-7, respectively.

After a 2-all deadlock in the 4th frame, the 1998 Asian Games 9-ball gold medallist Yang, nicknamed "the Son of Pool" never had a chance to return to the table after Biado raced to a 7-2 lead in the PBB Face Off Series, joint undertaking of Mega Sports World and BRKHRD Corp., and organized in cooperation with Sorsogon Province Sports Patron Philip Escudero of Malungai Life Oil, brother of Senator Chiz Escudero, Hermes Sports Bar, Dennis Robocop cues, Golden Leaf Restaurant, Bugsy Promotions, Mandarin Sky Sea Food Restaurant, Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) with The Philippine Star as official media partner.

Lee Takes Galway Glory

Stephen Lee won his first ranking event for six years by beating Neil Robertson 4-0 in the final of the Betfair Players Tour Championship Grand Finals in Galway, Ireland.

The 37-year-old from Trowbridge outplayed Masters champion Robertson at the Bailey Allen Hall to win the trophy and £70,000 top prize. It's the fifth ranking title of Lee's career and first since the 2006 Welsh Open.

Lee dropped out of the world's top 16 in 2008 and appeared to be in freefall down the rankings. But he has found a second wind in his career and is now pushing for a place among the top eight. Perhaps more than any other player, he has benefitted from the explosion in the number of tournaments on the snooker calendar over the past two years. By playing competitively week-in week-out, he has found fluency in his game and the results have followed.

Australia's Robertson saw his perfect record in televised finals broken as he lost for the first time in ten attempts. The 30-year-old Cambridge-based potter had to settle for the runner-up prize of £35,000.

A tense 47-minute opening frame came down to the colours, and it went to Lee as he trapped his opponent in a snooker on the green and from the chance that followed potted green, brown and blue.

Robertson had two clear scoring chances early in the second frame, but first missed the pink with the rest, then a red to a top corner. His second miss let Lee in for a run of 52 which proved enough for 2-0.

Again Robertson had the first opportunity in frame three, but he scored just 22 before running out of position. He later played a weak safety which let Lee in for a run of 47. A fantastic long pot from Lee on the last red sealed the frame and brought him to the brink of victory.

A break of 66 in frame four put Lee close to the winning line, and he potted the match-ball penultimate red only to see the cue ball drop into the opposite corner. Robertson cleared up to force a respotted black, but after a safety exchange he left the black over a middle pocket and a relieved Lee slotted it home for victory.

"I didn't let Neil get going, and in these short matches if you don't settle in the first couple of frames then you can lose 4-0," said Lee, who has been the world's most consistent player in recent weeks and reached the final of the Haikou World Open earlier this month before losing 10-1 to Mark Allen. "It’s a cracking feeling, it makes all the hard work and travelling worthwhile.

"A big thanks goes to Barry Hearn because he’s got all the lads buzzing about the game again. I knew I was good enough, I just couldn’t cope with playing six tournaments a year. There was so much pressure on every event and it was a horrible feeling.

"The game is in a great situation now and I just wish I was ten years younger. I’ve got the belief in myself back and I've beaten top players which is very satisfying. I appreciate it more now I’m older."

Robertson said: "The first frame set the tone, I had chances to win it but just couldn't take them. All the other frames were similar, I just lost the cue ball or missed something tricky when I was in the balls. Stephen's safety must be the best in the world at the moment and the way he's been playing recently it would have been a travesty if he hadn't won a tournament. Good on him because he looked dead and buried a few years ago but he has resurrected his career.

"It's disappointing to lose a final but it doesn't feel as bad as I thought it would. I've won nine out of ten finals which is still a good record."

The Grand Finals was the culmination of the PTC series which featured 12 other tournaments across the UK and Europe.
