Draw Made For Dublin's Snooker Show

Shaun Murphy, who topped the Players Tour Championship Order of Merit, will face Ricky Walden or Liang Wenbo in his first match in the PTC Grand Finals at The Helix in Dublin in March.

The draw for the new tournament, which runs from March 16 to 20, was made at The Helix today by local star Ken Doherty and WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson.

The top eight in the Order of Merit were seeded through to the last 16, with the other 16 players drawn at random in the first round.

Former World and UK Champion Murphy has been handed a tricky opening tie against Walden, who is now ranked among the world's top 16 for the first time in his career, or Chinese ace Liang.

Twice World Champion Mark Williams, who came so close to winning his third UK Championship title last Sunday, will take on Anthony Hamilton or Tom Ford in his first match. Masters champion Mark Selby will be up against Andrew Higginson or rising star Jack Lisowski.

Other first round ties to look out for include former UK Champion Stephen Maguire against Stuart Bingham, and Hitman Michael Holt against Hong Kong's top cueman Marco Fu.

The full draw is:

Ricky Walden v Liang Wenbo (Winner to play Shaun Murphy)
Mark Davis v Joe Jogia (Winner to play Stephen Lee)
Matthew Stevens v Gerard Greene (Winner to play Dominic Dale)
Stuart Bingham v Stephen Maguire (Winner to play Marcus Campbell)
Marco Fu v Michael Holt (Winner to play Barry Pinches)
Jamie Jones v Martin Gould (Winner to play Judd Trump)
Anthony Hamilton v Tom Ford (Winner to play Mark Williams)
Andrew Higginson v Jack Lisowski (Winner to play Mark Selby)

World Snooker are offering BARGAIN TICKET PRICES, with seats from just 10 Euros per session, with all-day tickets priced at 15 Euros for the first two days of the event. Concessions are available for Students, OAPs, the unemployed and disabled. For full details call +353 01 700 7000 or visit www.thehelix.ie/2011_Q1/PTCGrandFinal.htm

Selby Hopes To Emulate Hunter

Mark Selby hopes to match Paul Hunter's achievement by winning the Masters three times in four years when he competes in snooker's most prestigious invitation tournament next month.

Selby has an amazing record in the Masters, winning it on his debut in 2008 and again last year, and reaching the final in 2009. In all he has won 11 of the 12 matches he has played in the event.

This year's tournament runs from January 9 to 16 at Wembley Arena and Leicester's Selby hopes to get level with the late Hunter, who lifted the trophy in 2001, 2002 and 2004.

"To win it for a third time in four years and match Paul's achievement would be brilliant," said Selby. "I've got a very good record in the event, I love playing at Wembley and it tends to bring the best out of me. The atmosphere in the last two finals against Ronnie O'Sullivan is the best I've ever played in.

"Ronnie beat me in 2009 then I beat him last year so it would be great to meet him in the final for a third time. The public might start to get bored of seeing us in the final every year, but I wouldn't mind!"

Selby, age 27, believes that the strength of the field makes the Masters harder than ever to win.

"The players are so sharp now because we've had a lot more tournaments, so the standard is higher than ever," he said. "Plus you've got the likes of John Higgins and Mark Williams right back in form, as they showed at the UK Championship last week. John has proved time and time again what a class player he is, and I never doubted that he would be back winning tournaments.

"There's a very strong group of younger players like myself, Neil Robertson, Ding Junhui and Shaun Murphy who are all well capable of winning the big tournaments. I've been consistent this season and won a couple of smaller events but I would love to go all the way at the Masters."

Selby faces Mark King in the opening match of the tournament on Sunday, January 9 at 1.30pm.
Tickets for the tournament are ON SALE NOW! Don't miss the incredible Wembley atmosphere and the kings of the baize!

Entry Fees
Regardless of the sport, all competitors have valid reasons for participating in tournaments and contests - recognition, the level of play, the internalized struggle, and the personal satisfaction. Rarely do they mention monetary reward, but as the old adage suggests, if they say it's the principle, it's the money. After all, "Show me the money" may be the new catch phrase, but the concept is an old one. It is not unusual for professional players with financial acumen and business write-offs to complain about the size of entry fees in the relation to prize money potential or size of purse. Ben Franklin wanted two birds with one stone, and these days, everyone with time management skills and economic savvy wants the best bang for their buck. The Derby City Classic presented by Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, with a high level of guaranteed prize money in relation to its low entry fee, provides an explosive opportunity that few players, professional or amateur, will ignore. Only in The Derby City Classic presented by Horseshoe Casino and Hotel can a total and modest $405 (Entry Fees include a $10.00 registration fee for each event) entry fee investment give you the chance to win money in all three different games. It's an irresistible billiards trifecta.

ACS To Host USBA 3-C Championships at the 2011 Lucasi Hybrid ACS Nationals

The American CueSports Alliance (ACS) is pleased to announce it will be hosting the USBA 3-Cushion National Championships, May 10-14, during the 2011 Lucasi Hybrid ACS Nationals at the Tropicana Las Vegas, May 7-14. Players from across the country will showcase their skills at one of the most challenging cue disciplines in the world, courtesy of the United States Billiard Association (USBA) and Professor-Q-Ball Promotions.

The USBA Nationals will be played on six brand-new, beautiful top-of-the-line Gabriel’s Imperators carom tables. Specially designed for championship play, these 5’x10’ heated tables boast a newly-design hybrid rail system.

“This will be only the second time that the USBA National Championships have been held outside of a billiard room,” commented event promoter Paul “Professor Q-Ball” Frankel. USBA Secretary Jim Shovak added, “We are particularly pleased to showcase what is really a beautiful sport in such a spectacular venue as Las Vegas. We find that pool players who are introduced to the game of 3-Cushion are fascinated by it. Being among such a large audience of pool players can only heighten the awareness of our sport. This is a chance for all our members to come together in Las Vegas to make this event the starting point of something big. This is a unique presentation of 3-Cushion Billiards that you really don’t want to miss out on. The players and fans of carom and pool sports alike will be entertained and engaged by an experience they will never forget!”

Seating for ACS members and spectators will be free throughout the competition. The United States Billiard Association (USBA) is the governing body for carom billiards in the USA, as recognized by the carom world-governing body – the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB).
