So, the first 10 Ball Break and Dish event of 2018, and the roll-over prize fund STARTS at a whopping £1,376-00 before we have even sold any tickets at this event.

I've increased the price of tickets to reduce the massive amount of paperwork I was having to do, as I was spending so much time labeling over a booklet and a half of tickets at each event, but kept a similar structure to the discount so the odds of winning are roughly the same, but the number of tickets issued is smaller.

I've only sold a few tickets so far because everyone had used their cash to pay the tour costs/shirts etc I think, but I'm hoping some people will have a flutter and buy some tickets today.

Looks like the total prize fund is heading just a shade North of £1,500 today.

There should be a prize for a double post I think.

That was pretty cool... All on the GB9 Facebook Live Stream... I'm not sure if there's a record kept by Facebook - anyone else know?

BallsBallsBalls

There's no recording of the ten ball break and dish this time - I forgot to set up my camera, and the Facebook stream is too long to be stored, but here's what happened, in a nutshell.

Jamie Trump - first time at a GB9 event and first time playing 10Ball B+D, made me re-rack for the full three times until he had to accept the final rack as per the rules... Seemed to have a really good time despite not owning a 9-Ball cue before this event - and even won a couple of matches too. He made a jolly good effort at the 10+Ball Break and Dish, despite my terrible hand racking, but ultimately he broke dry and that was that.

Dean Thompson - WHAT A HERO! - broke well with balls flying all over the table, and was rewarded with a ball dropping down a pocket. The leave wasn't too bad, with the one-ball slap bang on the centre line of the table, a little towards the head spot, but the cue ball was very close to the middle of the foot rail... It's always difficult to aim when the cueball is so close to the rail, but Dean always looked like he was going to take it on, so just to play "Devil's Advocate" I loudly exhorted him to take the money. "I'll give you £158 cash right now if you stop now" - but he didn't even seem to consider it, and was heard afterwards saying in interview with the commentators on the stream that he "wanted to put on a bit of a show for the audience" and later mentioned to me that if he had managed to get over the hurdle of potting the tough one-ball, he would have been dead set on the next three balls which were virtually hanging - so it seems there was some bravery and some logic to his decision. Unfortunately the one-ball was just too hard, and didn't really threaten the pocket jaws as it hit a good inch or two along the end rail, and that ended his attempt... What a star for trying though.

Steve Chick - Steve is a big boxing fan apparently and desperately wanted to watch the Groves vs Eubank JR fight - he' d already paid for the stream and had been looking forward to it for ages... And now, rotten luck, he wins the raffle and it clashes with the fight - but he comes down anyway (much to our relief, as we were calculating times when we could fit Steve's attempt in the morning or something, and it wouldn't have been as good, but we always try to accommodate our winners as much as possible) and he was watching the fight on an iPad in the tournament room as he waited for the others to take their turns. As it turned out, he broke dry, although there were balls on their way to pockets that looked like they were cruelly bumped out of the way at the last minute.

So ALL the money £1,587 rolls over to the next event. So we are GUARANTEED a new high total prize pot in June.

I think I will go back to the old price structure for the tickets next time too - it was nice not to have to write out 450 tickets this time, but I think we get bigger pots when the entry level to tickets is lower, and I'm keen for everyone to have an affordable crack at this ALL MONEY IN, ALL MONEY OUT prize.

Thanks to everyone who came and watched, and those who watched online on the Facebook stream, and especially to everyone who bought tickets, and well done to those who won a chance at the prize.

I'll make sure to record it again next time, and maybe stick around to watch the Team Speedpool event too, because that sounds great, but I was too tired this time!

See you all in June!

I've just spent 5 minutes fishing out all the old paper £10 notes, with Charles Dickens on the back, from the bag of cash used for the prize fund.

Over £300 quids worth... I hope the banks still accept them!!!

;o)
