Hello all. I've been playing 9ball since '95 and the scene in Sussex was really strong back then. Weekly tournaments in Chichester/ Bognor/ Portsmouth (where I first met Big Dave) My local club - (Slick Willy's in Worthing)was always heaving and I could turn up on my own anytime and always get a game with a number of good players just hanging out. Now, it's dead and I play once or twice a week with a couple of friends.
It's a great club with a dedicated room for 9 ball with 12 tables, music not too loud, a smattering of TVs showing Sky sports, bar with table service and a restaurant that serves a good selection of food. Prices are reasonable, with the £15 deal getting you unlimited table time, 2 beers and a meal. Membership - £10 a year.
Anyway, I don't work there so this isn't a promo but I'd be gutted to see them replace 9ball with more 8ball tables. 8 ball still very popular as they hold the County matches here.
I'd like to get people going back there so have been thinking about running a tournament. Not pro, just a £10 entry unhandicapped (?) monthly event. Would anyone on the South Coast be interested or have any other ideas about how to get the place buzzing again?

I hear you Stakers, really.
I have heard good things about that club but never been. There are plenty of players down south that you could organise a proper tournament. Say £20-£25 entry 9ball, round robin so people get lots of play for their money. The problem is that if people are competing just for other peoples prize money they may not show up. If possible a tournament that is money added would be the way forward.
Co-ordinate it so that you don’t clash with any other tournaments down south ie Total9ball / Showtime Money / anything at Morray Dolans club.
You could organise a league? Even if it just had 7 or 8 players make everyone play 2 or 3 times, that is regular people in the club. Few different ideas that you can try. Contact me by PM if you want to discuss further.

I've had some great times at Slick Willy's - lovely club with excellent Brunswick tables too!
Feel free to give it as much plugging as you like...
