Urgent request from Japan Billiards & Snooker Association - Tokyo 2020 Olympic GamesAccording to our friends at the JBSA we need over 1,000,000 votes because BOWLING received 150,000 votes and KARATE has got more than 600,000 votes already. So here's the start of a new promotion to collect signatures for over 1,000,000 votes. change.org page, http://urx.nu/hFDdFacebook page, http://urx.nu/hFDJ

Me too. BTW have you verified website and owner of the page? I hope that's not one of these b*****ds wanting me to get new credit card, buy tripple glazed windows, pay for boiler check ups and claiming my PPI and other bull-metabolite [ This message was edited by: sinnerro on 2015-02-26 14:19 ]

Yeah, I registered with Change.Org a few months ago... It's legit, and the petition seems to be started by the APBU who are cool too!

sorry but I think this is ridiculous, snooker in the Olympics is just wrong in every way. no speed, no endurance, no strength. yes its a very skilled game but its not an Olympic sport lol what next darts? lol

Golf is an Olympic sport now, so why not cuesports?

Billiards is in the World Games as a "Precision Sport" so why not?

This was actually the last thing I blogged about. I won't be signing, not because of any question that cuesports are not 'Olympic-worthy' but simply because the figures show Snooker is not currently global enough when the medals are handed out. In the last 10 years of World Snooker Championships (and without a bronze medal match), Team GB & Northern Ireland have won 87.5% of all medals available. That's a snoozefest from an Olympic POV. ----------------- It must be a slow night-shift [ This message was edited by: Benjamin on 2015-02-27 11:42 ]

Even having said that - wouldn't it be better to show support for the sport with a signature?

You quoted snooker as an example, but this is about pocket billiards... Everyone wants their game to be in the Olympics... Even Bridge and Chess are pushing for it. I think it's as much about the recognition of the sport as well as getting the top level game seen by millions. Surely the stats you quote don't hold true for 8, 9, and 10 ball do they? Pool is much more global isn't it? [ This message was edited by: Administrator on 2015-02-27 15:09 ]

I'm fine for now Mrs Doyle. I only looked at the last 10 Snooker, 9 Ball and Carom (briefly) world championships and you're right, this stat is Snooker specific. I think it's great that the last 10 9 Ball world championships have produced 13 different nationalities as medalists and say so in the blog post. I'm a fan of both pocket billiards and the Olympics - I just don't think they mingle.
