Bit of research here guys, if a new premier club offering the best equipment in pool were to go up in the London area what would be your location pick and why? What's important to you Car parking Close to tube/rail Equipment Food/Drink Please discuss [ This message was edited by: DeadstrokeDS on 2014-08-11 19:26 ]

It's unlikely that I'd ever travel so far for Pool but all listed are good considerations for sure.
It sounds good and I'm sure you can make a success with the proper planning.
Good luck!

It depends what sort of crowd you are trying to attract, if it's 'serious' amateurs then they will want top equipment and then moan about the cost If it's the after work crowd then being next door to a tube and offering some kind of food is essential (what the Hurricane Room serves up is not food!!!). As a business model Mile End probably isn't too bad, near a tube, the food is basic, but edible (better than the competition) and reasonably priced tables too. A pool club with Sky sports would be nice too. Actually one thing that's pretty rare (in London at least) is the ability to pre-book tables. I never even bother trying after work anymore as I don't want to travel 30 mins/1 hour only to find there's no tables left!

That's some great feedback VJ appreciate the time you took and it's something for consideration using better and more modern communication techniques to let you see what tables are in use using a weblink. Good food and sports go hand in hand!

I used to like Rileys Victoria because it was pretty central but still outside the dreaded "Congestion Zone" and had relatively easy parking. Clubs with really good food available seem to be as rare as anything, but if you're going to do food, it would be great to have a really nice menu for a change. I guess going back to what you were saying about online booking, perhaps a system that has a map,of the club and allows you to select a specific table, it won't matter to everyone, but useful for regulars.
Having some sort of weekly/monthly comps wouldn't be a bad idea too!

Equiptment wise. I think it would be good to have a wide variaty of tables on offer.
Standard 9 foot Tables of high quality, Brunswick GCV or Diamond... Also a 5x10 foot table would be cool I also would like to see other cuesports tables on offer, English Billiards (snooker) tables and UK Pool tables are the norm in most clubs, how about a nice Chinese 8 Ball table...A carom billiards table and a Russian Pyramid table. These would be great to have on location as an alternative to the ones we are used to.

I'm glad you've mentioned that Russ! It's a very real possibility that I will have the only diamond 10x5 in Europe.....watch this space.

If you could have this venture in Merry ol' Wycombe, you would have your first and most loyal customer!

In light of recent events at Riley's could I have some more comments and feedback as to the above? For an independent owner it's important to know what a multi chain fell down on and what real pool players want from a club.

In my suggestion good equipment and something like open tables where winner to stay on few tables so guys with no partner can play and loser just pay for one game fee. This will attract many players in my opinion as I used to play back home country. Also for amateurs a small fee for booking long hours or a whole day for practice
