i dont really see gb9 tour coming into play ad yes its nice to win but its a national tour..

matchroom will be looking at euro tour rankings and what players have done on world stage this year hopefully :-)..

from a selfish point of view i hope they look at rankings after switzerland as i think i would need to have a mare to not be no 1 in rankings lol

lol, obviously you;d also be a great chaoice Daz, bringing some 8-ball experiance to the team also.

Whatever the team i feel we have more than enough potential to retain the cup. Hopefully i can be out there watching it with you guys

Daz, Thomas Engert is virtually certain to top the rankings after Swiss, at the start of play after players have had there points taken off etc, he will be top (before a ball is hit in Swiss)

So it will be :

Engert     2180
Muratore    2090
Majid         2010
Appleton    2000
Feijen        1960

Then there is a gap to the next player.
So as you see, you would have to make up 180 pts on Engert.
But i am pretty sure that the rankings only count after Holland event (that is the cut off mark)

not sure what good daz's 8-ball experience would do especially when the mosconi is a 9-ball event

well my calculations with the guys you mentioned after taking there points to come of from switz last year looks like this..

1.bruno matureo 2090
2.myself            2000
3.fiejen             1960
4.engert            1930
5.imran             1735

am pretty sure am 100% right.

all am saying there 2 spots available if i can do well 10ball and us open if no 1 or 2 on euro tour hopefully ill be in with chance...

other year when alcaide got picked he was no 16 on euro tour and reached last 16 of wc9ball ...if pat holtz had played euro tour the same year and if he had been no 15 or above alcaide am sure pat holtz would have got picked in front of alcaide..

so way i see it and would think most other players when they picking the last man usually after world 9ball am sure euro tour ranking will be a major factor especially if few european players did well without winning the tournament....

so am sure the world 10ball and us open and who is ranked where on euro tour come end of us open event will be the key factors to who gets the last spot or 2...well thats how it should be imo...

but we will see like you said. :-)

Unless there is something wrong with my maths, after taking off last year's Swiss points, both Muratore and Feijen head Engert.

thanks but like spoony said its a different game

but yes i have had lots of expereince playing team matches on tv for england and away from tv,and believe i would bring alot to the team on and off the table and i have had lot of success in team play...

hopefully ill gt my chance one day its no secret that its my main goal to make the team as i love the event and i believe it would bring the best out of me...

but there other players candidates also...

but whatever the team am sure they will win

also congrats to mark gray to be no 1 for all of 2008 is a fantastic achievement and he deserves his chance and am sure he will play his part...

Daz,

What about Ralf - looks like he should on the list???

After Swiss deduction, he has approx 1860 points?

This how they will start in Switzerland. The Swiss results will add or subtract from these
figures

I think I know whats going on now....

Mal is taking the full 6 events on the rankings??

Daz is taking the 6 events, minus the lowest ranked event?

I suppose technically they are both correct, dependant on how you look at them.....

karl boyes could be in top 8 after next eurotour and at the recent world pool champs won bronze medal so surely he could be in the mix?

There is no "technically" about this, I am right and Daz is wrong. (I'll explain it to you in LA Cafe soon Daz and you can buy me a San Mig Light!!)

From the moment the Swiss event starts, everyone loses the points they obtained in the same event last year which means that the points that I show above are those with which everyone starts with.

In the case of Bruno for example, he scored 630 in Spain, 300 in France, 510 in Italy, 235 in Germany, 300 in Austria and 350 in Holland. That all adds up to 2325 points. If he scores less than 235 in Switzerland, he will stay on 2325 points, if he scores more he will have that added to 2325 and 235 taken off. Therefore, if he gets to the last 32, his score of 2325 will improve by 40 points, if he fails, his score will remain at 2325

In Daz's case, he is making a big mistake saying that he has nothing to lose. The event in which he scored 0 points was in Swizerland last year, therefore he goes into this year's tournament with 2000 points which he has obtained in the last six events, if he scores less than 220 in Switzerland he will remain on 2000 points.
Daz thinks that he has nothing to come off in Swiy¡tzerland but that is the mistake he is making, he can't keep points from seven events.
Assuming that Muratore will qualify for the last 32, his new score will be 2365.
Daz would have to win the event to pass Bruno because his 2000 points would be reduced by 220 leaving him with 1780, he would need 585 to pass Bruno and he can only get that by winning.

There you are, maths lesson over!!!

One of the problems with winning or coming second on the Eurotour is that the day will come when you lose a huge amount of points.
Take Mark for example. His points will be reduced by a massive 630 when he starts the next event

When i said this i meant the experiance that Daz would bring to the table from playing in Major competitions at 8-ball, i see i didn't say it in the right way but i didn't mean because of 8-ball as a game, but the pressure aspect of team events ect.

What is the reason for having a ranking system where you take 7 results and just deduct the lowest ranking score?

Why not just have your ranking based on the last 6 events?

So basically Darren has 2000, and if he gets more than 220 points at the next event he just adds the difference betwwen 220 and whatever he earns at the next event. So even winning the event he will have 2410 points.

Only reason I can see for using this type of ranking system is to help the top players stay at the top for longer if they have one bad tournament.

Doesn't seem a very fair system.

I don't think the system is bad at all. It rewards consistency.
The top players should always be somewhere near the top but if they have a bad day as everyone can or for some reason they can't attend a tournament they don't get punished too much.

PRO9 has established an outstanding reputation as Europes No.1 source for information on American Pool in the UK and Europe. Upcoming tournament details, prompt match reporting, exclusive images by talented photographers, superb articles by expert pundits, active pool related forums, player profiles and a very sophisticated membership - basically, an incredible information resource for the American style game in Europe.
Since it launched, PRO9 has become compulsory reading, not just for the UKs pool players, but to hundreds and thousands of pool obsessives from around the world every single day.
PRO9s members range from professional pool players, cue-sports enthusiasts, club managers, tournament organisers, pool fans and aficionados, as well as various "movers and shakers" in the cue-sports field, including entrepreneurs in the wholesale and retail sector, as well as magazine editors and television sports promoters.
Growing more and more popular every single year, PRO9 is the best placed vehicle for the promotion of your pool club, billiards brand, associated products, services and opportunities in the truly massive pan-European billiard market.
