The unbeatable Roy Kimberley with yet another trophy.
4 in a row for Kimberley
Current European 9 Ball Champion Roy Kimberley came this week to Riley's Cardiff to stretch his lead at the top of the rankings on the British Wheelchair Tour and he did just that with a solid performance over two days showing the true grit of a fighter who battles through, even when not at his best, it was his 4th straight ranking event win.
Kimberley worked his way through a high quality field including victories over Nick Oliver 7-3 and a tight tussle with US 9-ball Champion Karl Read, which he just edged 7-6, this took him into the semi final to meet old rival and the man who succeeded him as BWPPA chairman, Matthew Gleaves. The match was close all the way through, with chances on both sides to pull clear, but as he always seems able to do, Kimberley dug in and ran out a 9-6 winner. This guaranteed him a place in the final against Tony Southern, who had battled hard through to a second successive final against Kimberley.

Southern had got the better of Cardiff’s own Craig Welsh, and Gleaves, both by a score line of 7-2, in the semi finals Southern had a convincing win over no 3 ranked Gary Swift.
In the final Southern started well, but missed an unbelievably easy 9-ball in the 1st rack, and after that his head dropped, the final was littered with unforced errors, which is untypical of this pair, but with his usual guile, Kimberley pulled ahead, and at 6-5 down, Southern again missed a sitter to go 6-6, and Kimberley raced through to the winning post of 9 racks without further loss. Southern has still to defeat Kimberley in 6 attempts.
Nick Oliver made a good run in the one-loss-side.
In the 1 loss side, Nick Oliver battled his way to the finals, to achieve his best ever performance, and with it, earned 70 valuable ranking points.
There was a lot of movement in the rankings, Matt Duffy dropped from no 2 to no 4, as he has not been able to attend the last 2 events, Danny Luton dropped from 3 to 6, as he has been unable to attend 2 out of the last 4 events.
Swift moved up to no 2 and Southern close behind at no 3, but Kimberley has a 110 point lead at the top.
