Mickey Flynns 10-Ball updates and results

Mickey Flynns 10-Ball event will get underway with a good turn-out of players for the second major event of 2008 at Cambridge's favourite pool club. A group stage format tournament followed by a single knockout format through to the final.

Many thanks to Mickey Flynns for hosting and running the event, and providing valuable free table time for the players, as well as adding £5 for every entrant into the competition and therefore paying out MORE than the entry fees - as usual!

"Read More..." for details.

Overton And Out!!!

If you want to know how tough the field is here at Mickey Flynns this weekend, consider this... Damian Overton DIDN'T actually get past the group stages... Admittedly he got close, as close as you can get without qualifying, to the point of having to play a one rack decider, but into the plate competition he went, non-the-less!

At least there was the small consolation that he entered the plate as favourite and performed true to form and won it, beating fellow finalist Rob Allen with a slim 5:3 score!

The Long And Short Of It!

There's often a discrepancy between the two halves of the draw, one side skipping ahead at a handy pace, the other side held up with a slow player or two, or just simply some slightly more tactical matches because of less favourable breaking conditions.

Whatever it's cause it can be a bit of a chore waiting for the other half of the draw to catch up, and even though in this particular case the two semi-final matches only started 10 or 15 minutes apart, the two styles of the players involved meant that the gap widened as there was a "dish-fest" on table one - the Gray/Burton side... And table two gave us a tactical grind on the Correia/Clarke side!

Sensibly, when the score on table 2 reached an even 4-4 they were offered, and accepted a final cash split by the winner of the match on table one which had already finished with Mark Gray as victor!

An early night for everyone then - Woohoo!

Lloyd Matining showing some class.
