L'Open du Valais 2007 unfolded at the W States Pool Club in Sion, Switzerland. This year we again innovated by founding two tournaments. Indeed, the principal tournament, with more than 10000 Swiss Francs prize-fund, as well as a tournament for the losers with more than 2000 Swiss Francs prize. The tournament played out over the 4 days of Thursday April 26 to Sunday April 29. This year we decided to Seed for the final stages on Sunday the 8 first of the Swiss Rankings, the best players of the club, the winner of last year Vincent Facquet and we also invited Yannick Beaufils who was vice champion of the world of English Pool in 2002.

The table of Sunday was majestic. Indeed, there were 6 French at the beginning, 12 Switzerland players classified in the 16 best nationals, as well as very strong players representing all the categories of play in Switzerland.

A large surprise from the very start of the tournament. Indeed, the finalist of last year Urs Furrer corrected himself by the French Jean-Marie Chiappolino who had never played American billiards... It is a player of English Pool which plays with the players of Sion in Haute-Savoie.

In the first round of matches for the winner of last year Vincent Facquet was less at ease than when at practice, but he still qualified for the semi final, but found his Masterin the person of Eric Marendaz who beat him, along with previous wins over Manuel Vidinha, Rosendo Gonzalez, Dimitri Jungo and Pascal Perisset.

Marendaz is a former player of the club and really wanted to take part in the finale of this great sporting appointment, but after a little more than one hour of play, Vincent Facquet capitulated by losing 9 to 7.

On the other side of the table one could assess the quality of the French player Yannick Beaufils, vice champion of the World of English Pool in 2002, who qualified for the final by beating Vincent Barbey, Sascha Specchia, Fadil Krasniki and in the semi final Vincent Ortiz.

The final began at 20:30hrs and nothing could seperate the two players. This play lasted up to 8-all, and then Eric Marendaz cracked and Yannick Beaufils benefitted from it to gain his first great American tournament.

We would like to make a point of thanking the sponsors who supported us for this event and all the others who support us year on year.

Thank you also with all the volunteers, without which an event of this size could not take place.

Here's looking forward to L'Open du Valais 2008.
