Ronan Fay (Winner, Tyrone)

Tyrone’s Junior Pool Player Is Crowned Irish Junior Masters 9-Ball Champion

Ronan Fay who hails from Coalisland in Co. Tyrone was crowned the 2006 Irish 9-Ball Junior Masters champion at the weekend, defeating a host other top junior 9-ball pool players along the way in Enniskillen Co. Fermanagh.

This young Green Baize cueist showed his great talent by playing outstanding pool throughout the day to lift his first ever 9-ball junior championship title with a 7-3 victory over Paul Loughran (Tyrone) in the final and send him up the junior 9-ball rankings as this event had double points on offer.

Click on "Read More..." for the details.

This is Ronan’s second major junior cue-sport title win in the last few months after winning the Tyrone Official 8-Ball Junior Pool Championships lifting the £150 first prize and the annual perpetual crystal trophy on that occasion.

Ronan topped his group in the round robin format with three wins out of three but was pushed all the way by each and every player in his group and just getting over the line on a 4-3 victory each time over Dylan Smyth , Hugh Kiely, and Ronan’s younger brother Cieran Fay who also is a great young talent for the game.

Semi-Final 1: Ronan Fay (Tyrone) & Hugh Kiely (Leitrim)

The knockout stages saw Ronan step his game up to another level when he was awesome straight to the final after running rack for rack over his opponents defeating Mark Mc Gillen (Sligo) on a 5-0 score-line and then another great 6-0 victory over Hugh Kiely (Leitrim) in the semi-finals before defeating the Belfast junior runner-up Paul Loughran also from Tyrone in the final on a 7-3 score-line.

All in all this was another great tournament for all these young junior players from throughout the 32 Counties of Ireland who made the effort and travelled to Enniskillen for this prestigious 2006 event.

Its great to see this junior 9-ball tour a roaring success in the short period of time it has been set-up and hopefully it can only go from strength to strength over the next few years with more young players getting involved with the game.

The junior 9-ball tour is organised and promoted by Ireland’s American 8 & 9 Ball Pool Tour. www.irelands9balltour.com and all involved with the tour would like to take this opportunity in thanking not only the junior players for turning up at each event but to all their parents and helpers for providing transport to and from the tournaments.
