Ipswich reigns in Coventry Mothers Day 9 ball Tournament

Riley’s Ipswich had the proud honour of supplying both the winner and the runner up in the 9 ball open tournament held at Coventry Hertford Place Riley’s on Sunday 18th March.

After a long day of 6 group matches, and 4 knockout matches Craig Osborne finally lifted the winner’s trophy and collected the £130 first prize.

Phil Morgan was the Shotgun’s unlucky victim in the final but by reaching the final Phil ensured that the runner’s up trophy and £50 second prize also travelled back along the A14 to sunny Suffolk.

"Read more" for the details.

In total there were 27 entries to the tournament, with players travelling from as far away as Evesham, Berkshire, Derby, Leicester and of course Ipswich. There were even a handful of players from Coventry which is an encouraging sign for those trying to promote the game in the area. The organisers were hoping for more entries but Mothers Day could have been many players excuse.

Initially there were four groups, three groups of 7 players, and one group of 6 players. Four players qualified from each group to make a last 16.
Group matches were all played race to 5, and overall the group results seemed to go to form as the bigger names in the tournament all qualified through the group stages fairly comfortably.

The knockout stages were played race to 7 until the semi-finals ( race to 8 ), and the final ( race to 9 ).
