Mark “THE BEAR” Mc Donald crowned Belfast Junior Champion
Mark “The Bear” Mc Donald from Belfast emerged as winner of the 2007 Belfast Junior Open 9Ball Pool Championship at the weekend when the event was staged in Club-9 Belfast.
The Bear as he’s known on the pool circuit scored a 9-5 victory over Paul Loughran from Tyrone in the final of the Belfast event promoted by Ireland’s American 8 & 9 Ball Pool Tour.
After a long day of action from the large turn out of young junior players who travelled from all parts throughout the 32 counties of Ireland shows the game of 9ball is starting to progress to major heights and is in good hands in the Emerald Isle.

The format of the event was played in groups of six in a round robin format with both players topping there group to progress to the knockout stages of the event.
The Bear proved that he’s one of the top junior players in Ireland after his amazing performance throughout the day in capturing the first junior ranking tournament of the new 2007 playing season adding to his 2006 success when he lifted the All Ireland Under-21 9Ball Pool Championship back in July last year.

Playing outstanding pool the Bear recorded victories over Jennifer Mc Quillan (Down), Ciaran Fay (Tyrone), Shane O’ Hanlon (Louth), Niall Sweeney (Roscommon) and Aden Garland (Antrim) in his group matches to progress into the knockout stages of the 2007 Belfast junior open.

The high standard of play the Bear produced in the group matches was once again carried on to later stages of the competition defeating two of Ireland’s top junior players Declan Mc Conville (Down, 7-0) in the ¼-finals and followed that up with the same score-line 7-0 over Belfast’s Kevin Nolan (Antrim) in the semi-finals to make-it into his first 2007 junior final.

In the final things was starting to get tougher for the Bear when he came up against Tyrone’s top junior 9ball player Paul Loughran who also played great pool all day but missed some vital chances in the final which proved costly and let the “THE BEAR” in to run out a 9-5 winner to be crowned 2007 Belfast Junior Open 9Ball Pool Champion for the first time where he also goes straight into number one on the official junior 9ball rankings.
