Juszczyszyn breaks the Dutch hearts

Poland’s Konrad Juszczyszyn claimed his first ever Eurotour gold and at the same time, broke the Dutch hearts here at the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open in Italy. After a couple of weeks of pool in the European Championships, where the Dutch came up dry with no medals in the men’s events, Ivar Saris had suddenly raised their spirits reaching his first ever final on the European 9-ball tour. The young Dutchman had beaten some great players to get into the final, notably Germany’s Ralf Souquet, the Spaniard David Alcaide and Russia’s Ruslan Chinakhov who have all tasted victory on the tour but Knorad Juszczyszyn had other ideas.

Konrad, making only his second appearance in the finals had played fearlessly throughout the tournament but saved his best to last. He produced some amazing shots which wowed the crowd here in Treviso and with the legendary Mike Massey in the audience, we were all in awe. Massey who is famed for his trick-shots was smiling as jump after jump went in with some precise accuracy to go with it. This proved to be a step to far for Ivar who played his part in a great final but eventually lost the match 6-9 and saw a new champion crowned in Konrad Juszczyszyn.

Afterwards, Konrad explained, I have watched several of my team mates collect golds from the tour in the past and I am delighted to join this exclusive club, it’s now on to the next tour stop in Austria next month and I feel very good with my game, I’m going for it again” he continued.

Tkach dominates the Predator Women’s Treviso Open

Kristina Tkach, Russia’s golden girl, cemented her place as Europe’s number one with a dominant performance at the inaugural Predator Women’s Eurotour here in Treviso Italy. After cruising through to the semi-finals, she overcame a scare as Slovenia’s Ana Gradisnik led 6-5 and looked to be reaching her first ever final when a small mistake allowed Kristina to level the score at 6-6. Needing only one more rack, Ana had another chance to beat Kristina but when she missed the six-ball, it sealed her fate and allowed Kristina to finish the match and enter the final arena. Kristina’s opponent in the final, Belarusian Marharyta Fefilava who was ranked third in Europe was sensing a weakness or maybe fatigue as Kristina spent the previous weeks collecting gold medals at the European Championships, but it wasn’t to be. Kristina came flying out of the blocks taking a 5-1 lead and seemed on course for another gold but Marharyta fought back admirably. Marharyta pulled back rack after rack and got very close but when the score was at 6-5 to Kristina, she made an error that proved costly and Kristina went on to claim the crown and become the inaugural Predator women’s Eurotour champion and has now amassed an amazing seven European tour titles in her young career already.

Gray wins over Staab in an epic thriller

Mark Gray (GBR) defeated Sebastian Staab (GER) in an epic thriller with 9:8 at the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open Euro-Tour in Treviso, Italy.

Gray was the clearly favoured to win this match. The early stage of the match seemed to confirm that assumption. It was Staab who committed some easy mistakes and Gray punishing him for that. The British quickly took a two rack lead at 3:1 and 4:2 over Staab. Then suddenly the German seemed to get some momentum going in his game and won rack after rack, mainly because Gray’s break let him down big time. Staab not only levelled the match at 4:4, he even went ahead and all of a sudden took a 6:4 lead over Gray. That kind of shocked Gray and Staab remained focussed and cool, using his chances to get on the hill first with 8:6. The was an ultimate pressure moment for Gray. But the experienced 6-time winner of Euro-Tour events remained as solid as a rock and took two racks in a row, making the match a hill-hill thriller at 8:8. Staat was breaking in the deciding rack. He failed in having balls pocketed and allowed Gray to an open table. The Brit took that chance and cleared the rack, winning the match with the closest of all results 9:8 over a disappointed Sebastian Staab. Gray will play tomorrow at 10:00 CET in the single elimination round of the final 16 players while Staab has to settle for 17th place in the tournament. Commented Mark Gray on this facebook page after the match: „Granite still fighting!!!! Don’t know how I won that !!! But somehow beat Germany’s Sebastian Staab 9-8 from 6-8 down!!! Table was playing very funky which effected both of us!!! Obviously change of weather here effects conditions from day to day.... Anyway through to final 16 , play continues 10am tomoz local time and I play Poland’s Mateusz Sniegocki....“

Other remarkable results in the same round include Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) taking down Mario He (AUT) with 9:8. David Alcaide (ESP) won 9:7 over Gray’s teammate Imran Majid (GBR) after having trailed 1:4 in the match already.

The Dynamic Billard Treviso Open will commence tomorrow morning at 10:00 CET with matches from the last 16 players single elimination.

Top guns on track in women’s event

The top-trio of the European Women’s Ranking have made it to the single elimination stage of the Predator Treviso Open 2019 in Treviso, Italy.

Kristina Tkach (RUS) took down Veronika Ivanovskaia (GER) 7:3 while Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) had to go over the full distance with Kristina Jaeger (GER). After 13 racks, Ouschan crossed the winning line first with 7:6. Marharyta Fefilava (BLR) won her match with Iza Lacka (POL) quite comfortable with 7:4.

In an earlier match, Ana Gradisnik (SLO) met Eylul Kibaroglu (TUR) in the winner’s qualification round. That match started out quite exciting with good quality shots and decent strategy play. It was Gradisnik who committed more mistakes and she got punished for it by Kibaroglu time after time. The Turkish was already on the hill, leading 6:3 when she only had the 8-ball and the 9-ball on the table. She mispositioned the cue ball and hid it behind the 9-ball, not able to play the 8-ball. That was the turning point in the match. She gave that rack to Gradisnik who then went for her time-out. When she was back at the table, Gradisnik’s play had improved a bit while it was now Kibaroglu who committed many mistakes. Consequently, Gradisnik pulled back rack after rack from her and got to the hill at 6:6. It was Kibaroglu’s break shot and she again had chances to win the match. But again she made mistakes and allowed Gradisnik to snatch that rack from her. Gradisnik won 7:6 which booked her a seat in the single elimination round of the final 16 players in the Predator Treviso Open Women’s Euro-Tour.

In the first loser’s round, Monika Zabek (POL) lost her match by a hair’s breadth to Francesco Garlatti (ITA) with 6:7.

The Predator Treviso Open will commence tomorrow at 09:00 CET with matches from the first loser’s round.

Ivanovskaia through to next round

Veronika Ivanovskaia (GER) is through to the second winner’s round at the Predator Treviso Open in Treviso, Italy. She defeated her teammate Tina Vogelmann (GER) 7:6 in an exciting match.

Both players had a walk-over in their first round so they actually met in the first winner’s round of the event. Throughout the whole match, Vogelmann was always ahead with one rack. Ivanovskaia held on to her, not letting the advantage of Vogelmann get bigger than one point. Then, at 6:6 Veronika Ivanovskaia’s break shot was coming up. She had two balls down but no shot on the lowest numbered ball on the table, the 2-ball. She played a push-out and an exchange of safety shots evolved from it. Ivanovskaia came out winning this safety battle, taking the match with 7:6 over Vogelmann.

In another exciting match of today, Kristina Zlateva (BUL) defeated Louise Furberg (SWE) with 7:5. She then needed to go up against Kateryna Polovinchuk (UKR) who took her down with the same result and sent Zlateva to the loser’s side.

The Predator Treviso Open will commence tomorrow at 09:00 CET with matches from the first loser’s round.

Predator Treviso Open launches a new era

Just after the completion of the recently played Dynamic Billard European Championships for Men, Women, Under 23 and Wheelchair Athletes, the arena is awaiting the contestants for the next event. Coming up tomorrow (Thursday) is the Predator Treviso Open Euro-Tour event.

The ranking situation in the Women’s Euro-Tour ranking is pretty much the same as in the men’s ranking. #1 ranked Kristina Tkach (RUS) and #3 ranked Marharyta Fefilava (BLR) will lose many points from last year’s event in Treviso, while #2 ranked Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) will only lose 330 points for her 9th place finish last year.
