Jasmin Ouschan grabs another tournament and tour title

Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) just won the women's Euro-Tour in Treviso, Italy. She defeated Ina Kaplan (GER) clearly with 7:2 in the final match.

Ouschan did not have smooth sailing in the tournament. To the contrary, she lost her first match with Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) 5:7 and had to make her way all through the loser’s side. She did so and came up with an impressing performance: victories over Louise Furberg (SWE) 7:1, Kristina Zlateva (BEL) 7:1, Ouija Tiihonen (FIN) 7:1, Ana Mazhirina (RUS) 7:2 and again Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) 7:6 booked her a seat in the final match with Ina Kaplan. Kaplan had defeated Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL) in the semi-final with 7:2.

With this victory, Ouschan also wins the 2014 of the EPBF Women’s Euro-Tour. Even before the Treviso Open, she was so far ahead that it was impossible for all other players to catch up with her. That shows how dominant Ouschan currently is in European women’s pool billiards.

Top eight finishers:

    Jasmin Ouschan (AUT)
    Ina Kaplan (GER)
    Oliwia Czuprynska (POL)
    Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL)
    Ana Mazhirina (RUS)
    Martine Christiansen (NOR)
    Silvia Lopez Fibia (ESP)
    Ine Helvik (NOR)

That concludes the coverage of the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open 2014.

DAY 3

Nick van den Berg wins Dynamic Treviso Open and 2014 season

Nick van den Berg (NED) just won the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open with a convincing 9:3 victory over his teammate Niels Feijen (NED).

The tournament was not only smooth sailing for van den Berg. He did have a comfortable lead in the rankings but he knew that he was wanted by many other players. In the early stage, van den Berg had some close matches. He even lost 7:9 to Oliver Ortmann (GER) in the winner’s qualification round. But today, seemed to be unstoppable. He smashed Andrey Seroshtan (RUS) 9:1 in the quarter-finals, just to overpower unheralded Kevin Becker (GER) in the semi-final with 9:4. That earned him a seat in the final match. His opponent there was no other than „The Terminator“ Niels Feijen, current World Champion. Feijen made his way today with victories over Albin Ouschan (AUT) 9:6, and a heartbreaking 9:8 over young Spaniard Francisco Sanchez Ruiz.

The final match was expected by the audience to be a close fight between the two. But that was not the case. Van den Berg played unbelievably well and gave no chances to Feijen. The match was a one-sided affair in favor of van den Berg. 9:3 was the result in the end.

With this victory, Nick van den Berg secured his victory of a complete Euro-Tour season. He won the season five times, three times in a row now.

„I am very proud of this achievement“, stated van den Berg after the match, „I have practiced hard and had many tight matches here before I really got going strong“. „It was a hard piece of work to come up with such a convincing victory over a World Champion player like Niels.“

Top eight finishers:

    Nick van den Berg (NED)
    Niels Feijen (NED)
    Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (ESP)
    Kevin Becker (GER)
    Albin Ouschan (AUT)
    Oliver Ortmann (GER)
    Tony Drago (MLT)
    Andrey Seroshtan (RUS)

DAY 2

Van den Berg secures his spot in the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open

Nick van den Berg (NED), current #1 ranked player of the Euro-Tour series, made his way to the final 16 players of the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open. He made it to the winner’s qualification round where he met Oliver Ortmann (GER).

Ortmann turned out to be a tough opponent for van den Berg and won the match with 9:7. That sent van den Berg to the loser’s side where he had to face Wojciech Szewczyk (POL). In that match, van den Berg remained victorious and won clearly 9:6 to get a spot in the round of the final 32 players. There he met another Polish player, Woytek Trajdos (POL). That match turned out to be a thriller with a lucky 9:8 end for van den Berg.

Being among the last 16 players of the event, he will definitely be #1 in the Euro-Tour rankings after the event. If worse comes to worst for him, he will have to share his victory with Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE). The Greek is still in and if he wins the event and van den Berg loses in the next round, they would be tied with their ranking points. It will be interesting to follow. Nick van den Berg will play Kasper Kristoffersen (DEN) tomorrow while Ekonomopoulos has an appointment with Albin Ouschan (AUT).

Another high class match in the round of the last 16 players will be the clash of the former World Champions from Germany, Ralf Souquet and Oliver Ortmann. Souquet has lost his first match in the tournament and then won all the long way through the loser’s side to get himself a spot in the single elimination round of the last 16 players. Ortmann has had no defeat yet. He made his way through the winner’s side.

Many great players are still in to have a shot at the title, such as „The Terminator“ Niels Feijen (NED) who ousted Mark Gray (GBR) in the last round with 9:2, running out all of his nine racks! „The Tornado“ Tony Drago (MLT) is also still alive in the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open. He eliminated Christian Sparrenloev-Fischer (SWE) with 9:6 and will now face David Alcaide (ESP) in the next round.

The tournament continues on Saturday morning at 10:00 CET. The women’s Euro-Tour event starts on Saturday morning at 09:00. Up to eight tables will be in the live stream and can be viewed at www.kozoom.com. All results and info about the event can be found at www.eurotouronline.com

DAY 1

Becker provides Sniegocki with a hard time

Kevin Becker (GER) took care of one of the biggest surprises of the first day of the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open in the BHR Hotel in Treviso, Italy. After winning 9:6 over Michele Bianchini (ITA), Becker stepped on in the first winner’s round to meet #11 ranked Euro-Tour player Mateusz Sniegocki (POL). The match went along in favor of the German. Becker took a quick 5:3 lead over Sniegocki who did not seem to be able to come up with a suitable solution for the match. To the contrary, Becker grew even stronger and finally defeated Sniegocki completely deserved with 9:5.

While Nick van den Berg (NED) and Mark Gray (GBR) won their matches of today, Ralf Souquet (GER) had to accept an 8:9 defeat from Damianos Giallourakis (GRE) in his opening match.

That was a shock for the BCA Hall of Famer. He now has to take the long way through the loser’s side. His first victim there was Andrei Rusu (ROM) who received a 3:9 bashing from Souquet. Then he went on and played Jonni Fulcher (GBR). He showed no mercy to the Brit and won also that encounter quite impressive with 9:5.

A remarkable performance was also presented by one of the few female participants in the Euro-Tour, Barbara Bolfelli (ITA). She won her opening match over Alex Montpellier (nothing) with 9:7.

The next round brought her to the table with Mark Gray (GBR). Gray was simply on another level and handed her a clear 9:3 defeat. However, Bolfelli went to the loser’s side and won another encounter with her fellow countryman Michele Riolfatti (ITA) 9:5.

Former World Champion Oliver Ortmann (GER) had to deal with Shaun Storry (GBR). That match turned out to be a hill-hill thriller. At 8:8, luck became a factor in the match. Storry had some lucky shots at first but then Ortmann took revenge and also benefitted from a lucky fluke which brought him the victory in that match.

Another former World Champion with problems today was Daryl Peach (GBR). He managed to win his first match in winner’s round 1 over Andreas Gerwen (SWE) with 9:7. Then he met Jani Siekkinen (FIN). After 16 racks, the match was tied at 8:8. It was Siekkinen who had the better nerves, sending Peach to the loser’s side of the event.

The tournament continues on Friday morning at 09:00 CET. Up to eight tables will be in the live stream and can be viewed at www.kozoom.com. All results and info about the event can be found at www.eurotouronline.com

DAY 0

Final tournament of the 2014 season about to begin

The final tournament of the 2014 edition of the Dynamic Billard Euro-Tour series will begin on Thursday morning, December 11th, at 09:00 CET. 144 men will play the Dynamic Treviso Open for a total prize fund of 34.000,-€ and important ranking points.

The situation in the Euro-Tour rankings for men players is quite close and exciting at the moment. The current leader is Nick van den Berg (NED) with 2510 points. He needs to finish better than 9th place in this event and no one will be able to seize the crown for 2014 from him. In case he loses out earlier, Mark Gray (GBR) on rank Nr. 2 is also in the starting gates. Trailing only with 140 points, Gray could be a serious competitor for van den Berg for the title of the Tour Winner 2014.

Karol Skowerski (POL) on 3rd and Ralf Souquet on 4th position only have outsider chances on the title since they both lose a high amount of points from last year’s event in Cison di Valmarino, Italy. However, Nr. 10 ranked player Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) could come up with a huge upset here. He has not played the event last year and will gain the full amount of points. In case he gets a top 5 finish and the first 4 players lose out in the early rounds, Ekonomopoulos could be the winner. Many factors are out in the dark before this event. This adds even more spice and attractiveness to this closing event of the 2014 season in the BHR Treviso Hotel.

Starting on Saturday, the women will also play their final Euro-Tour tournament of the year. In the overall women’s ranking, Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) is most likely too far ahead of all her opponents. The second ranked player Kristina Schagan (GER) even trails with 460 points to Ouschan. Another winner of this season can hardly be imagined in the women’s division.
The men’s event starts on Thursday morning at 09:00 CET. Up to eight tables will be in the live stream and can be viewed at www.kozoom.com. All results and info about the event can be found at www.eurotouronline.com

The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP). For further information please contact the EPBF press at press@epbf.com.
