GORMLEY TURNS UP THE HEAT AT EVENT 6!

28th June was the date for Total9Ball's sixth event of their ten event ranking series. Once again the 2x double chance format was used as over 20 players competed for prize money, ranking points and the beautiful T9B glass trophy.

Also at this event, there was the "roll-up" jackpot and "break-dish" up for grabs. So there was a massive amount of value on offer for all entrants.

The draw was completed at 10am with matches beginning shortly afterwards. It wasn't long before Nicole and Kim were busy with results behind the tournament desk.

Rich Gormley began the day with a 7-4 victory over Phil 'Wildboy' Wildman. This result at one stage looked in jeopardy as Gormley's tip flew off, the time out to re-apply the tip didn't seem to unsettle him as he returned to the table and finished the job.

Mark Parker required all racks available to beat Shakz Islam 7-6, while on the table next door, Del Sim used the minimum racks to beat Jaspal Bamotra 7-0. Tony Burton's event began well with a 7-2 victory over Darian George, while Martin Correia battled back to beat Scott McMillan 7-5.

On the other side of the draw, Rich Gormley converted his second win of the day 7-4 against Wayne Rooke.

It was great to see Alan Millership and Neil Cummings back into competitive action as they showed they still have the talent as Alan recorded a 7-5 win while Neil defeated Jaspal 7-3. Mark Parker produced the second 7-0 of the tournament as he eliminated David Henderson.

As the first round matches concluded on both sides of the draw, there was an atmosphere full of confidence as many players felt today could be their day to win a Total9Ball event with some top players missing from this event. It was now time for the roll-up break-dish to take place. Total9Ball saw total raffle ticket sales of £110 to boost the pot to an exciting £25 per ball and extra £60 as a clearance bonus. So who would it be to step up and take on the break dish challenge... Mark Parker was the lucky ticket drawn by Terry 'Man'keany. All players surrounded the table adding to the atmosphere and pressure. Parker stepped up and smashed the balls, at first it looked like it was going to be dry but the last moving ball dropped into the bottom left hand corner. £25 was announced.

Mark landed in good shape on the 1 but position to the 2 was very tricky. Mark sunk the 1 ball and decided to collect the £50. This means the prize rolling over to event 7 on the 17th July is a whopping guaranteed £20 per ball plus a £60 clearance bonus before sales. Some serious action at the Hurricane Room.

Back to round 2 of the event as Gormley continued form as he controlled his match with Neil Cummins to report a 7-3 scoreline. Dave Evans impressed as he advanced against Tom Staveley 7-3. Other results in this round included a cool 7-2 win for Martin Correia over Del Sim. Mark Parker continued in impressive fashion as he defeated Neil Cummins 7-2.

The competition was now at the Quarter-Final Stage, all remaining players were now guaranteed prize money and Martin Correia and Rich Gormley were the only remaining players in with a chance of the Jackpot which stood at £555. A pretty decent prize for a field of just 20 players! Unfortunately for Gormley it was at this stage the he suffered his first defeat but by the smallest of margins. Tony Burton held he's nerve to victory 7-6. It was class Correia as he defeated Dave Evans 7-4. Mark Parker battled hard from 4-1 down to eliminate Tom Staveley 7-6 with a final rack break dish, while Gormley was back to winning ways as he produced the result of the day 7-3 over Martin Correia.

So the semi final line-up looked like this with results...

Tony Burton 7-3 Martin Correia
Richard Gormley 7-3 Mark Parker

So, the above results left Richard Gormley in his first ever T9B final to compete against Tony Burton.

It had been a long day for both players, so they reduced the race to 5. Gormley looked unfazed from 2-0 down to be crowned victorious 5 racks to 3 in a high class final.

Another brilliant tournament run by Total9Ball and it was great to see a new winner, well done Rich Gormley.

The usual thanks to Kim and Nicole for running a well organised event to St.Albans, Hurricane Rooms for providing the venue. To Mark Parker for providing some top quality photos. To all our sponsors for their continued support and to the players who competed in the event in a good sporting fashion.

Total9Ball now look ahead to our spectacular event 'The Big One' held at St.Albans Hurricane Room on Saturday 12th July. Please check the thread on Pro9 or Facebook as the event format has changed and entry has been lowered to offer value to all players.

Total9Ball would also like to take this time to announce that shortly details will be available for our new Sunday Golden 9 Ball Series. We are currently looking at venues.
