Total 9 Ball - Money Multiplier Event 1

Saturday 5th April 2014 was the date chosen to launch Total9Ball's latest event to their already busy calendar ‘The Money Multiplier’ held at the fabulous St Albans Hurricane Room. 32 pre-paid amateur 9ballers were in for a treat as T9B offered a ridiculous value event. Each player was guaranteed a minimum of two matches… The first a race to 9 and the second race to 7. The entry fee was kept low at £30 for T9B members and £35 for non-members. There was a whopping £600 cash guaranteed for a jackpot winner, that’s an unbelievable 20x the entry fee. The event secured its 32 players within 12 hours of being announced which was a great boast for the T9B staff and we fully expect event two to fill even quicker. The date for Money Multiplier Event Two will be announced at 8pm this evening on Pro9.

Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.

Matches kicked off at 10am and there was definitely a different atmosphere in the Hurricane Room, no handicaps, big money available and many of the UK’s top amateur 9ball players all in one venue wanting to prove they are the best. The draw was completed on the Monday before the event therefore players knew and had a week to prepare for their first obstacle. There were a few eye catching first round matches. Richard Twomey vs Ramesh Gokhul for starters, both players have achieved some great successes at previous T9B events and this match was hard to predict with both players capable of beating each other. On this occasion there was no messing from "The Twominator" Richard Twomey as he cruised to a very impressive 9v2 victory. Two of the winning England A team from last weekend changed from team mates to rivals over a race to 9 racks as Dean Reeve met Tony Burton. Burton looked unstoppable taking a 7v2 lead but Reeve is a fighter and battled back. The result ended 9v7 to Burton. There were three matches that went all the way to hill-hill, Apostolis Harmas defeating Colin Connor, Terry Challenger was victorious over Liam Monk and Mark Parker drilled in an incredible 8ball up the side rail while bridging over the 9ball and then converted the 9ball to progress against Martin Correia.

Total9Ball ran the break/run competition in a different way to usual at this event. It was 10ball with raffle tickets sold for £1 per ticket or 10 tickets for £5. T9B guaranteed a £50 pot to get the ball rolling, The way this side event worked was as follows. One player would be drawn at random to take up the challenge. The pot was divided by 10 to give each ball a value. The player could stop and collect at any point but if a shot was played and missed the collected funds would be lost. Zoltan Kojsza was the player who was given this excellent opportunity after his £5 of tickets purchased. Before his attempt began the pot was counted and it was announced at £12 per ball. Zoltan broke well sinking one ball and landing in good shape on the one ball. There was an excellent atmosphere as all matches were stopped and 31 players surrounded the table living each shot with Zoltan. As each ball was potted T9B founder Phillip Wildman announced the potential winnings. £12, £24, £36, £48 then £60 unfortunately with the way the balls were spread Zoltan was almost forced into taking a long pot down the rail knowing that if it was potted he would have easy shots remaining to take the full £120 pot. Zoltan however missed the shot therefore lost the collected £60 prize money. Exciting times ahead as the £120 pot now rolls over to E2 (date to be announced on pro9 at 8pm this evening) I expect sales to increase at E2 which should mean we increase the ball value to around £30 per ball.

After the break/run attempt the players returned to their matches and results began to fly in. We pick up the action again from the Quarter Finals. Tony Burton and Gary Bullock were the two gold run players now just 4 wins away from the £600 Jackpot prize. Blocking them from this prize money with one life each were Courtney Symons, Liam Monk, Ramesh Gokhul and Richard Twomey. The results from the Quarter Finals and onwards are below.

This event was a pleasure to organise and run. It couldn’t of been achieved without the T9B Tournament Director Nicole Hansen so thanks to her it’s a long day to sit there collecting results and scheduling matches, we are very lucky. Such a high standard of pool was played yesterday some was a joy to watch and it was great to have so much talent all under one roof. Personally I can’t wait for Money Multiplier event two. (Date announced on www.pro9.co.uk at 8pm this evening) I advise all players to enter and pay the entry fee asap as I expect all spots will be gone within 6 to 12 hours. There is increased value at Event 2 as the jackpot wasn’t won… T9B will guarantee the jackpot at £650 that’s 22x the entry fee. Also the break/run has £120 in the pot already therefore that cant be missed, will it be your turn at E2? We are going to tweak the format for event two and make it a standard double chance event. We believe this is the best UK format and we have proven time and time again that it works excellently.

Thanks to the Hurricane Room for sponsoring T9B their brilliant tables for the day. To Mark Parker for taking some great photos and to all the players for their support of this event.
