Allison Calls Foul on Herself!

The battle of the Brits came into play with Kelly Fisher and Allison Fisher were duking it out for the right to advance into the semi-finals for the quest to become this year's World Champion. In the other quarter-finals bracket, Chinese-Taipei took on mainland China with Pei Chen Tsai versus Xiaoting Pan. Both matches came down to the wire in a one game sudden death. Dragon Promotions brings the greatest women's tournament in the world once more to the Philippines with the 2013 Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship! This year's edition will take place October 28th - November 4th,2013 to luxurious Resorts World Manila, an upscale hotel and casino adding onto the dynamic atmosphere of the coveted championship. An elite 48 world class lady pros, the best of the best from 20 countries, will attend the event to decide who is the World Champion. Matches will air live daily from 2pm-7pm Manila time on www.insidepool.tv and broadcasted worldwide by ABS-CBN Sports and affiliates.

Kelly Fisher had been fighting a bad illness the entire week, including vomiting , blurred vision, and a terrible sore throat. The TV match had to be switched off her in case she had emergencies. Despite that, the former World #1 showed her mettle when she took a huge 5-1 early lead and eventually held at 7-4 needing only 1 game to advance over her roommate Allison Fisher. However, the greatest woman's player of all time would not go silently into the night as she clawed back with a clutch 10-Ball cross side bank, and later a crucial 5-Ball bank to tie the match at 7-7 for a one game decider. Allison broke in the final rack and had to play a defensive shot on the first ball. Stunningly, Allison fouled and actually called the foul on herself when the referee did not see the infraction. Kelly took the gift and made a solid under pressure runout for the win.

"I didn't really know what to do on the last shot. But when I shot the cueball I knew I had fouled. Even though the referee didn't call it, I had to call it on myself. I've always done that my entire career", said the regal like Allison Fisher.

"That shows alot of class and poise from Allison to do that without hesitation. And it's not like it's an early game. It's the rack decider to be one match away from being World Champion. That's why she's who she is, the greatest woman to ever play the game", commented Charlie Williams, Executive Producer of the event from Dragon Promotions. Williams had also coached Allison in several majors in recent years.

Taiwan Topples China: Quarter Final Thrillers at the Worlds!

In the other quarters, Pei Chen Tsai also took a commanding lead early on and held at 7-5 over China's Xiaoting Pan. But Pan fought hard including an amazing clutch bank at 7-6 down on the 10-Ball that tied the match at 7-7. In the final game, Tsai had the first opportunity to runout and she did perfectly until she choked and missed the 10-Ball! She left Pan a very tough cut shot on the 10-Ball, and Pan shot and missed the entire 10-Ball! She did manage to hit the 10-Ball from behind after hitting the cushion, but left Tsai straight in for the win.

Today's semi-finals will be Kelly Fisher ENG vs Yu Han CHN and Rubilen Amit PHL vs Pei Chen Tsai TPE

No Taiwanese or Chinese has ever won the World 10-Ball. If Kelly or Rubilen wins, she will become the first player to win the World 10-Ball twice.

Gao Meng Takes #1 Seed! China Powerhouse 8 Tries for the Yalin Worlds

The #1 seed after the round robin usually goes to an undefeated player. And not a surprise for a Chinese to get that honor. But the twist is, this is the first time a stage 1 qualifier has taken the #1 seed at the Worlds! 18 year old Gao Meng took her 3rd attempt in 3 years and finally won a qualifier. To top that, she also took the top seed after 3 exciting days of play at the World Championship.

Meng is joined by fellow Chinese professionals including former World 10-Ball silver medalist Siming Chen, bronze medalst Xiaofang Fu, Sha Sha Liu, former bronze Han Yu, Zhuqing Bi, Jing Wu, and legenday Xiaoting Pan.

"Gao Meng geat Jasmin Ouschan when she was 14 years old. She has fire in her game when I watch her. I said for years that she is going to be a great player", commented Charlie Williams, Executive Producer of the Worlds. Williams has a good eye for talent, as he has coached Allison Fisher, Yu Ram Cha, and Eunji Park. All of whom have made it to Day 4 of the World Championship sweet 16.

Meng turned more heads when she downed defending champion Ga Young Kim 6-3. Kim was a huge favorite to win her group but lost that honor to Meng. The 18 year old received a bye into the round of 16 for winning Group 1.

Though China has the largest contingent left in the field, China has yet to win Gold here at the Yalin Women's World Championship.

USA & Europe Falter on Judgement Day at The Worlds

After a highly successful Day 2 for the USA, the final Day 3 of the round robin proved to be disastrous for the western continents. Early favorites from Europe and North America were all eliminated at the end of the day and would fail to make the top half cut. Matches will air live daily from 11pm - 8am EST on www.insidepool.tv and broadcasted worldwide by ABS-CBN Sports and affiliates.

American pro Kim White Newsome looked prime to qualify after her shocking 6-5 win over reigning World Champion Ga Young Kim of Korea. She led 2-1 over Russia's Mazhirina in a match where a win would put her through. Unfortunately she couldn't pull it off and the Russian would win the spot to Day 4 with a 6-3 decision.

Former #1 ranked Vivian Villarreal of Texas had an even harder pill to swallow. She was in Group 8, called the Group of Death because of being the hardest group in this year's Worlds. Villarreal maintained a winning record of 3 wins and 2 losses including her final match win over Venezuela. All she needed was China's former World Champion Xiaoting Pan to win over underdog Czuprynska of Poland, and Villarreal would be assured a spot. But Pan lost 6-5 and this put Villarreal out by a mere 1 game.

On the other hand, USA's Emily Duddy rained on the parade of Sweden'd Caroline Roos who led at one tim 5-2. Roos only needed to win over Duddy to advance. Duddy had no chance to qualify as she had been winless, and somehow managed to win her final match 6-5 which was for morale, but left Roos out of the tournament. Korea's Yu Ram Cha was relieved as she was the beneficiary of Duddy's win (Cha had lost to Roos 6-0 the day before). Good for the Asians but bad news for the West.

"I finally played a good match! I hope I can get the tape of that one", said Duddy.

Finland's Poikkijoki, Germany's Vietz, Belgium's Khodjaeva, and Norway's Helvik and Christiansen were all eliminated as well.

Both Canadian pros Naomi Williams and Brittany Bryant also did not qualify.

Jennifer Barretta lost her final match on TV to Belgium's Khodjaeva in a poor performance. Barretta thought her World Championship run ended once more in futility, but was informed afterwards that she was in a 2 way tie which she actually won because she led in the number of games won.
Misery turned into elation.

"I thought I was out. I really thought before the match that I was in a do or die situation to win. That's why I played so bad. The pressure with the lights, TV cameras, and hundreds of fans is something I still need to get used to. We just don't have enough tournaments in America to get ready for that. But I'm really happy and relieved that I made it through the round robin this year for the first time", said Barretta.

Barretta faces Rubilen Amit today at 12:00pm in a USA vs Philippines battle.

USA Ladies on Fire! Newsome Upsets World Champ GYK

USA has the largest contingent of players ever to the World 10-Ball. And the results are showing. On the first two days of the Worlds, the five American ladies have made some sizable dents into the strong international field. Kim White-Newsome of Texas in her first ever appearance in the Philippines shocked defending World Champion Ga Young Kim 6-5. No American lady has ever won the World Championship since 1991. No American has ever won the World 10-Ball or even made it to the top quarter finals. That could change this year. Matches will air live daily from 11pm - 8am EST on www.insidepool.tv and broadcasted worldwide by ABS-CBN Sports and affiliates.

Former #1 ranked Vivian Villarreal of Texas defeated European Champion Czuprynska of Poland 6-3 and then Villarreal downed Taiwan's Zhi Ting Wu 6-3. Villarreal needs one more win to lock up her spot in the field cut the next stage of the Worlds.

"Everyone told me I have the hardest group out of the 8. If I win tomorrow I might even have a chance to win my group and get the bye", said Villarreal.

Jennifer Barretta - USA

Barretta has big wins already
New York City's Jennifer Barretta is in her second appearance at the World 10-Ball and got unfortunate to have a winning record last year and not make the cut. This year though, she already has big wins over India's Thakur, Philippines Gillian Go, and a heart tester 6-5 win over 2x Amway Cup winner Chou of Taiwan.

"I'm not thinking ahead of myself or how I'm going to do. I'm just focusing on each match one by one and what I need to do in my technique", explained Barretta on her strategy.

Even qualifier winner and newbie pro American players Emily Duddy of NYC and Rebecca Wagner of Las Vegas have made some buzz. Duddy pushed Beijing Open winner Yu Ram Cha of Korea to a 6-5 decider and Wagner defeated Norway champ Ine Helvik and barely lost a 6-5 heat with Japan's Champion Akimi Kajitani who finished 3rd at the Worlds a few years back.

"I'm excited to play. I'm still 5 years out from being a serious contender but it's a good experience being here", said Duddy.

USA's Newsome one of the dark horses of the Worlds!
The coup de grace came last night when Kim White-Newsome, a top 10 ranked in USA, came against red hot Ga Young Kim, the reigning World Champion. Kim was playing fast and furious and jumped to an early lead at 4-2. But Newsome clawed her way back into the match. Kim made aggressive decisions on offense which did not pay off and Newsome was happy to capitalize. After winning a safety battle exchange, Newsome won the deciding match rack 6-5.

"I'm having a great time here in the Philippines!', said Newsome on her maiden voyage here.

Villarreal, Newsome, and Barretta statistically are looking good to qualify and make the cut to the third stage of the Yalin World 10-Ball.

The Duchess of Doom Downs Korea's Cha

England's Allison Fisher won easily in what might have been a battle against South Korea's Yu Ram Cha. Meanwhile, South Korea's other darling Ga Young Kim (GYK) cruised over South America #1 Mirjana Grujicic. Matches will air live daily from 11pm - 8am EST on www.insidepool.tv and broadcasted worldwide by ABS-CBN Sports and affiliates.

Fisher won the first game off a mistake from Cha, even though Fisher missed an early open 8-Ball. Fisher capitalized with another game and held a 2-0 lead. Her first lead over Cha in over 3 years. This seemed to shake the monkey off the back as Cha continued to error and Fisher played better and better. In the end, Cha scratched the white in her last game and gave Fisher an easy 6-2 win. Fisher has now defeated two of her stronger opponents in her group.

Ga Young Kim - South Korea

GYK could be the first back to back champion of the World 10-Ball

GYK saw an improved Grujicic come back for her 3rd visit to the Worlds. She managed to keep it close at 3-2, before making a crucial mistake on an easy 9-Ball. Kim jumped on the opportunity and proceeded to play flawless and won 6-2. Grujicic still can qualify while GYK remains undefeated and is 2 matches closer to defending her World Championship title.
