Rollison wins second consecutive T9B Amateur Event

27th April 2013 saw the T9B hit the midway point of it's Amateur Series with Event 3 held at the beautifully refurbished Hurricane Room club in St Albans. 29 players in total supported this event and it was great to see some new players mixed with some regular players. First of all, we hope all new players to the series enjoyed the event and will support more in the future, there was some great feedback from them about how nice the atmosphere was and that they enjoyed the experience of a T9B event greatly. The format used was the T9B created, double chance format, this format offers players two chances to win and also the possibility that on a really good day one player could win both the "Winner's Prize Fund", as well as the "Runner Up Prize Fund" plus the "Jackpot Roll Up" which currently stands at £110 meaning yesterday's total Jackpot on offer was a cool £510. There were a few key performances yesterday at the Hurricane Room and also some some players who I feel who need to be put in the spotlight for how that played, therefore I am writing this report a little differently.

Matches kicked of just after 10am with players all hopeful of adding some critical ranking points towards the Grand Finals and some prize money for their back pocket. It was great to see a few players in from the Birmingham area - Al Cotan, Al John and Kris Kovacs. Unfortunately the event didn't go too well for Coton or Kovacs but they seemed to enjoy the day cheering on their friend Al 'The One' John as he achieved his best result to date at a T9B event. I have never seen Al play so well and I was really pleased to see him battle through the early stages of the event and still be involved past the prize money stage. John's results included wins over Aslam Abubaker 7v5, Danny Johnson 7v4, then two fantastic wins against many people's favourite for the event, Dave Nelson 7v6, 7v3 and Al's final win of the event was against new player Terry Keaney 7v2. Al's run of winning results was ended in the Quarter Finals stage by Tem Dixon and Luke Rollison 7v3 and 7v4 respectively. Speaking to Al after the event he seemed very pleased with his performance and in my opinion he deserved every penny of the £100 prize money he collected. Well Done Al 'The One' John.

Tom Staveley it seems is a magnet to the favourites of each event as he never appears to get a nice draw, This time Tom drew Richard Twomey in his first 1st round match, Tom made good use of his handicap start and ended up a 7v6 winner, Staveley completed the first round undefeated as he also was on the winning side of a 7v3 scoreline against Tony Fry. Toms draw didn't get any easier however in round 2, as waiting for him next was the eventual Winner of the event Luke Rollison and Tem Dixon, Luke showed his class winning 7v4 and it took a Hill-Hill decider to separate Tom and Tem, but Tem sunk the final 9ball and advanced.

Tem Dixon playinn off a -1 handicap again went the furthest in the event with both chances remaining and a few players said it could be the day for a Jackpot winner. Tem battled very hard to reach the Semi Finals in both sides of the event but after winning 8 (yes 8!!!) straight matches he seemed to understandably run out of steam, Tem recorded wins over Al Coton 7v4, Tom Staveley 7v6, Chris Buckmaster x2 7v3, 7v5, Brian Cassidy 7v4, Terry Arnold 7v2, Courtney Symons 7v5, and Al John 7v3 but then lost his next two matches to Luke Rollison 7v3 and an on fire Mark Parker 7v5. This was another great day for Tem who pocketed £200 for his troubles and gained a fair few ranking points.

Mark Parker has been a bit off-form for the start of 2013 but over the last few weeks he has bounced back, Mark Parker won event 4 of last season's Amateur Series so he has shown he can do it. Mark recently recorded a great win over Kelly Fisher at GB9, and Mark also recently reached the Semi Finals of an event run by Geoff Windeatt in Gravesend. Yesterday Mark's day began with a 7v4 victory over Greg Jansz, Mark didn't seem to play so well in his second match as he said he missed a few silly balls and Dave Nelson took full advantage eliminating Mark from this side of the draw 7v5. Parker then seemed to push on through the gears to produce great confidence boosting wins against T9B Rookie Champion Sunny Garib 7v3, Luke Rollison 7v5, Phil Wildman 7v5 and Tem Dixon 7v5. As you can all see from this list of results it's safe to say Mark Parker was buzzing. Well done Mark - a great performance and long may it continue my friend.

Luke Rollison began his day's plays against a player (Rattapol Sassmann) who must be sick of the sight of the Chichester potter as they seem to play once or twice at somepoint during each event. Luke seemed to be hitting the ball well and ran out a 7v5 winner. Rollison in other matches defeated Paul Tee 7v6 however during this match Luke's day could of been ended early as Paul led 6v4 to 7 but couldn't convert this into a win. It was the two friends who battled it out next as Rollison finished Greg Jansz event 7v2, Rattapol Sassmann got his second dollop of "Rollison Delight" next as Luke was in cruise control winning 7v2, Al John was next and a 7v4 result ended his Jackpot hopes. as reported earlier a 7v3 win for Luke over Tem in the Semi put him into the Final.

Luke's only defeat of the day was against the in-form Mark Parker, however Luke got his revenge for this in the Final. It was clear in the final that both players were very tired and there was lots of mistakes made but Rollison made it two event titles in a row at T9B winning the Final 7v5. Another victory for Luke but again his handicap will be cut to -4 now... Can he complete the hat-trick at the next event? Can you stop him? Enter now and try your luck.

Another excellent event run by T9B and enjoyed by many... A full list of results can be found here http://challonge.com/T9BA2xS2013E3. Thanks to all the players who supported this event and we hope to see you all and many more at Event 4 on Saturday 25th May again at the St Albans Hurricane Room. Thanks to Nicole Hansen for the smooth running of this event once again and to Dave Knight for bring along The Pro Shop and taking some smashing photographs. Finally thanks to the Hurricane Room for playing great host, offering us the use of their awesome club and to our sponsors Kamui and Sanctuary Cues.
