Women’s event ends with a one-sided final

Sunday, 19 August 2012: In a one-sided match, Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL) defeated Caroline Roos (SWE) 6:2 and snatched the title of this year’s Dynamic Billiard Germany Open for women.

Wesolowska dominated the match from start to finish. She met with Roos already in the winner’s qualification round of this event and creamed her 6:1 there. Whether that was still on Roos’ mind, who knows. But Roos never seemed to get in the game. Wesolowska found the better safety shots and she performed great. Deservedly, she won the match and got the title. Roos will be the nr.1 of the European Women Ranking after this event.

Dynamic Billiard Germany Open for Women comes up with surprising results

Sunday, 19 August 2012: Caroline Roos (SWE) eliminated Ina Jentschura (GER) with 6:4 from the event.

After the men’s event was finished yesterday, the women continued this morning with their event. Jentschura met Roos in the quarter-finals. Jentschura’s way into this match was over three straight wins. She won over Izabela Lacka (POL) 6:5, Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) 6:3 and Anja Hehre (GER) 6:4. Roos won her first two matches over Patrizia Pollo (ITA) 6:0 and Tatjana Vaitkiene (LIT) 6:2, before she was stopped by Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL) with 1:6. She went o the loser’s side and defeated Jasmin Michel (GER) in a tough match with 6:4.

The quarter-final match between the two was determined by slow but highly focussed play. Jentschura had the better beginning but Roos never let her get away too far from her. After seven racks, the score was 4:3 for Roos. She had gained the lead in the match again. The 8th rack was determined by safety play with Roos coming out as the winner, taking her on the hill with 5:3. Then it looked as if Jentschura would be able to launch her comeback. She ran out the 9th rack and closed the gap a bit. In the 10th rack, Jentschura tried to play a safety shot on the 1-ball but she failed. Roos could see the 1-ball and pocketed ball after ball, running the rack. After 77 minutes of play, Caroline Roos won over Ina Jentschura with 6:4. She will now play the semi-final while Jentschura has to settle for 5th place.

Other results from the quarter-finals were Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL) clearly ousting Sandra Baumgartner (AUT) with 6:3. Louise Furberg (SWE), former European Champion in the Women’s division, fell to the sharp blade of newcomer Ana Gradisnik (SLO) with 3:6. Martine Christiansen (NOR) just made it to the semi-finals with a heart-breaking finish-line 6:5 victory over Ana Majirina (RUS). Majirina missed the 10-ball at 5:5 and left it in the pocket for Christiansen.
