Following on from it’s successful debut event in 2011, players will be pleased to hear that the impressive ‘Golden 8 Ball’ pool weekend will be returning back to the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool from the 15th - 17th June 2012.
The spectacular arena and quality playing conditions witnessed last year has created an air of excitement and anticipation amongst Blackball players, with many of last year’s teams returning with more players in tow!
What started out as just a ‘four player team event’ has quickly evolved to encompass an open singles, ladies singles and mixed doubles event, all with a combined GUARANTEED prize fund of £8,000 with a top prize of £2,000 for the team champions and £800 for the singles champion!
Teams can be of mixed gender and are allowed one professional player and up to four reserve players, with no limits to international or county players.

To deter super teams entering, players must live within 15 miles of each other, although an exception to the rule can be applied for in unique circumstances. Entry fee is £100 per team, and is limited to 64 teams, giving plenty of space for players in the arena. Full details can be found at www.golden8ball.com
The tournament starts with a round robin format on Friday morning, where teams divide into groups of 4 to play each other. Each match consists of 16 frames, divided into 4 sets of 4 frames, with all frames being played. Teams get 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. The top two teams from each group enter the team trophy knockout, whilst the bottom two enter the plate.
To add an exciting twist, the knockout is best of 16 and if a tie occurs, then teams must nominate a player from their opposing team to play a sudden death frame . .
Event Organiser and creator Rob Pearce stated; “The Golden 8 Ball tournament positions itself as a prestigious pool competition which aims to provide the best possible playing conditions, coupled with a bit of wow factor!
“We’re an independent tournament that is open to any pool player, regardless of any associations, governing bodies or organisations that they may belong to.
“Having been bowled over and inspired by the spectacular ‘Grand National’ tournament in France, I wanted to create a similar event that makes our players feel special.
“We may be way off anything like the Grand National as yet, but it’s a start in the right direction and it will always remain my vision.”
Enjoyment is certainly what this weekend is all about. Teams can expect to play a minimum 57 frames of pool before they can be knocked out of the competition and with the introduction of singles, mixed doubles and plenty of side events, there is an abundance of pool for everyone.
Coupled with the attractions of Blackpool, players can expect a good mix of pool and other entertainment. There is a special accommodation package for players staying in the Norbreck hotel that includes an en-suite hotel room, cooked breakfast and dinner plus tournament wristband, all for £44.95 per player per night.
Players not booking the pool package must buy a weekend wristband at a cost of £35 to enter the event.

Those that register before 30th April can claim a FREE £40 singles voucher, allowing them two entries into the open singles or two entries for the ladies singles or one entry to the mixed doubles.
If a team enters from a pub, they can claim a bumper in-house tournament kit, sent direct to their favourite watering hole! The bumper pack worth £50 contains everything needed for the pub to run their own in-house Knockout tournament, Speed Pool tournament and Killer Kit tournament.
