“I am so happy!”
Saturday, 21 April 2012: In a very one-sided final match, Dominic Jentsch (GER) crushed David Alcaide (ESP) with 8:1.
“I feel completely overwhelmed”, said Jentsch after the final.
“This is my first Euro-Tour victory; my best rank so far was 17th”. The final match can be described with a few words: Jentsch was simply too dominating for Alcaide and left no chance for the strong Spaniard.
Whatever aspect of the game is taken, Jentsch was better. His break shot, his safety play, his pocketing skills… his performance in this final was second to none. When asked what he thinks it is that makes him dominate his opponents so clearly, he replied: “I always try to do my best. I think from shot to shot and get the best out of me.” “Sometimes you get momentum, sometimes you don’t. I practice very hard and recently I get awarded for all my efforts.”

10-ball European Champion left no chance for Burford
Saturday, 21 April 2012: In a thrilling semi-final match, Dominic Jentsch (GER) smashed Phil Burford (GBR) with 8:3.
Jentsch continued where he stopped the round before. He played
rock solid and approached the table in the way that makes him so special: self-confident and “hungry” for the victory. His opponent was able to cope with it for the first few racks. But then Jentsch got a 6:3 advantage over Burford. His break shot was better and his performance in total was more solid than Burford’s. In the 10th rack Jentsch wins a safety exchange but happens to miss a makeable 8-ball. Luckily for him, he leaves a tough shot for Burford.
The British youngster misses the shot and also leaves a tough shot for Jentsch. These situations separated the wheat from the chaff. Jentsch played a masse shot and pocketed the 8-ball, then pocketed two more tough shots and went on the hill, leading 7:3. Then Jentsch took a time-out. When he came back, he broke the balls and scratched on the break. The ball on was the 2-ball which was lying awfully close to the center pocket. Burford managed to pocket the 2-ball and get position for the 3-bll, but then missed the 3-ball. That sealed his fate. Jentsch cleared the table again and won the match with 8:3. He will now advance and challenge David Alcaide for the title of the Dynamic Italian Open.

Van den Berg loses tough encounter
Saturday, 21 April 2012: In the first semi-final, David Alcaide (ESP) wrestled Nick van den Berg (NED) down with 8:7.
The match got in line with what could be watched throughout
the whole day. Two really strong contestants competed against each other with a winner by a small margin only. They started taking points in turn until the score was 3:3. So far, some safety shots were exchanged but every player won his break game. Then, from 3:3 to 6:6, both players ran out their racks without even letting the opponent to the table. In the 13th rack, van den Berg made no ball on the break. Alcaide could not run the rack and left a safety shot for van den Berg. The Dutchman answered that by playing a great resafe. Alcaide tried to hit the ball but he scratched with the cue ball. Van den Berg used that first “mistake” from Alcaide and ran the rack, leading 7:6. Then Alcaide broke the balls with a super break shot and cleared the table in a very short time. He showed strong self-confidence. The match was tied at 7:7 when van den Berg approached it for his final break shot. Again, no ball went in. The layout of the balls was far from easy but the 1-ball was makeable. Alcaide got to the table and cleared it with some super shots, winning the match with 8:7. Van den Berg can hold his head up high since his performance was also top class. “It was a great match”, stated Alcaide afterwards, “Nick and I played very good and ran many racks”. “In the end, I was very lucky”, admitted Alcaide, “I had a good break to tie the match while Nick also broke well in his final rack with no ball going in a pocket. That gave me the chance to win the match and I simply took it”.
The second semi-final will be played between Dominic Jentsch (GER) and Phil Burford (GBR).

Jentsch steamrolled Ortmann
Saturday, 21 April 2012: With a performance that was close to perfect, Dominic Jentsch (GER) ousted Oliver Ortmann (GER) with 8:3 from the quarterfinals of the Dynamic Italy Open Euro-Tour.
It was a top class clash of two very strong pool players with different backgrounds. Ortmann, former World Champion and US Open winner with a long history and some recent health issues, against Jentsch, young rising star who serves in the sports section of the German Army and already has two European Champion titles under his belt. In the beginning, none of the two committed any mistake at all. They both took turns in winning their respective racks until the 6th rack came along. There, Ortmann committed one big mistake when he pulled the cue ball too far and scratched unnecessarily in a corner pocket. That seemed to give some momentum to Jentsch. He ran the rack and the next one, taking a 5:2 led over Ortmann. It got even worse for the former World Champion. He also lost his next break game and allowed Jentsch to take a 6:2 lead. That was a huge advantage for Jentsch in a race to eight racks. However, there seemed to be still some light on the horizon for Ortmann. When Jentsch broke in the 9th rack, he scratched and left a combination shot 1-ball on 10-ball for Ortmann that was dead on. Ortmann shortened the gap to 6:3. But that did not in any way disturb Jentsch’s master plan. In his next break, Ortmann pocketed one ball and had a tough position on the 1-ball. He played a push-out that Jentsch took. When Jentsch went for it, he miscued and left a somewhat tough position for Ortmann. Oliver Ortmann tried to take this last chance but he missed the 1-ball. That was it for him. Jentsch cleared the table and went on the hill, leading 7:3 with his own break shot coming up. His next break was almost an earthquake.
Jentsch pocketed four balls on the break and had an easy layout on the table. He cleared it again and took the match deservedly 8:3. Jentsch had the better break shot and played rock solid. “I am really hot to win that tournament”, said Jentsch after the match, “I feel great! After winning the 10-ball title at the European Championships last month, I want to win my first Euro-Tour now”. “This is the first time that I got so far in the Euro-Tour. My best place so far was ranked 17th. Now I want to win it!” When asked about his preparations, he mentioned: “I have worked out hard and my body is in a good physical condition. I also worked hard on my break shot, and I think that could be witnessed”, stated Jentsch with a smile.
Other notable results from the quarterfinal matches include David Alcaide (ESP) eliminating Jayson Shaw (SCO) with 8:4. In an all British clash, youngster Phil Burford ousted Darren Appleton with 8:5. Another thriller happened on table 17. Dark horse Miko Balasz (HUN) had proven to be a very tough draw for Nick van den Berg (NED). When van den Berg was on the hill, leading 7:6, Miko pulled out a brilliant shot to tie the match at 7:7. Then, van den Berg had the break shot and ran all balls, but he missed the 10-ball. However, he left a tough shot for Miko which the tough Hungarian player tried to bank over one rail but he missed. Then van den Berg pocketed the final 10-ball to seize the match with 8:7 from Miko.
