Jentsch and Luton also grab the titles
Sunday, 25 March 2012: Jasmin Ouschan (AUT), Dominic Jentsch (GER) and Daniel Luton (GBR) are the 2012 European 10-ball Champions!
Jasmin Ouschan had to deal with youngster Natalya Seroshtan (RUS) in the women’s final. That was the exact rematch from last year, when the encounter was a clear affair for Ouschan. Seroshtan, 14-years old at the time, lost 1:6. This year, Ouschan still seemed to be the high favourite for the title. But the match turned out into an unexpected thriller.
Seroshtan played much better than last year. “She was already playing well last year but she became much stronger now. She played extremely well”, said Ouschan after the final match. Ouschan seemed to struggle much and could not get her momentum going. “I just returned from Taiwan before I came here and I feel like I have not enough power at the moment”, Ouschan stated. Seroshtan was even able to get a 4:2 lead over Ouschan. But then Jasmin focussed and grew stronger.

Safety battles took place and both of them played on an equal level. In the 10th rack when Ouschan was leading 5:4, she was aiming on the 10-ball but missed it and gave Seroshtan another chance. The youngster pocketed a long and difficult 10-ball and tied the match at 5:5. Then, the match again developed into a safety battle with Seroshtan to make the wrong choice first. She went for a combination instead of playing a safety shot and missed it, leaving an open door for Ouschan. The Austrian defending champion took the chance and won the rack and the match with 6:5.
In the men’s division, Dominic Jentsch (GER) defeated defending champion Stephan Cohen (nothing) with 8:5. Jentsch played rock solid throughout the whole event. He never seemed to let anyone even think of beating him. He took a comfortable 4:1 lead in the match before Cohen got his game going. However, 4:5 was the best Cohen could do before Jentsch shifted into overdrive and snatched almost all remaining racks, winning the match with 8:5
In the wheelchair division, Daniel Luton (GBR) won unexpectedly clear over Fred Dinsmore (IRE) with 6:3. Luton was dominant throughout the whole match and Dinsmore did not find a way to stop his opponent.
The Dynamic European Championships will continue on Sunday, March 25th at 09:00 CET with the 8-ball competition. The award ceremony for 10-ball will be held on Monday night.

10-ball down to final matches
Saturday, 24 March 2012: The Dynamic European Championship 10-ball competition is down to the final matches.
In the men’s division, the final will be played between Stephan Cohen (nothing) and Dominic Jentsch (GER). Cohen defeated Onur Yildirim (TUR) with 8:5, then David Alcaide (ESP) with 8:6 and in the semi-final youngster Vitaly Pavlukhin (RUS) with 8:7.
The semi-final match was as exciting as it could get. It was experience versus youth. In the end, Cohen proved to be the one to cross the finish line first. His opponent Jentsch was victorious over Radoslaw Babica (POL) with 8:5, Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) with 8:5 and in the semi-final Nick van den Berg (NED) with 8:5. Jentsch played very strong and solid and it is almost impossible to predict the outcome of the men’s final.
In the women’s division, the final match will be played between Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) and Natalya Seroshtan (RUS). Ouschan today destroyed Jasmin Michael (GER) with 6:1, Darya Sirotina (RUS) with 6:1 and in the semis Line Kjoersvik (NOR) with 6:4. Her opponent, Natalya Seroshtan remained the upper hand over Sandra Baumgartner (AUT) 6:1, Amalia Matas (ESP) 6:5 and just recently Ana Majirina (RUS) with 6:1. Ouschan as the defending Champion is clearly favoured to win this final.
In the wheelchair division, the contestants for the final match are Daniel Luton (GBR) and Fred Dinsmore (IRE). Luton dealt with Emil Schranz (AUT) in the semis and defeated him with 6:3. Dinsmore eliminated favoured Henrik Larsson (SWE) with 6:2.

Thrilling matches in the single eliminations stages
Saturday, 24 March 2012: Albin Ouschan (AUT) defeated Karlo Dalmatin (CRO) by a whisker with 8:7 and made his way into the final 16 players of the Dynamic European Championships 10-ball event.
The tension before the match was definitely there. Both players know each other very well and even seem to like one another. But when the referee asked them to lag for the break, they just turned into “tournament mode” and everything else vanished.
Dalmatin definitely had the better start. Ouschan got the first break but the cue ball scratched. Dalmatin then took that rack and the next one off Ouschan and took a 2:0 lead. Ouschan won his next rack, but so did Dalmatin: 3:1 for the Croatian. In the 5th rack, Ouschan went for the 1-ball after Dalmatin had played a push-out but missed it. Dalmatin penalized that without any mercy and went ahead 4:1.
It looked like Dalmatin would be the one to get momentum first in this match. But then the tide turned. Dalmatin started missing balls and positions while Ouschan got stronger from rack to rack. That finally led to the hill-hill situation at 7:7. Ouschan broke the balls and pocketed the 2-ball but had no shot on the 1-ball. He played a push-out which Dalmatin passed back to him after having a close look at the situation. The match could not get any more exciting. Then Ouschan played a safety shot but the 1-ball was open to Dalmatin. The Croatian tried a safety himself but accidentally pocketed the 1-ball. He left a situation for Ouschan where Albin could see the 3-ball but not really pocket it.
However, the 10-ball and the 9-ball were lying close together in front of the side pocket. Ouschan wanted to play a kick shot and come off two rails into the 10-ball. So he called it in the side pocket. He played the shot but came a bit too short.
However, the cue ball touched the 8-ball which made the cue ball bounce into the 9-ball and made the 10-ball into the called side pocket. What a dramatic finish of a thrilling match. Ouschan won with 8:7 and will now face the winner of Ederer v Leisen in the quarter-finals.
Other notable results include Stephan Cohen (nothing) eliminating Oliver Ortmann (GER) with 8:3. Ortmann, who suffers from spinal problems, might not be able to continue his appearance at the Dynamic European Championships. Another big gun was eliminated in the early single elimination rounds today. Tony Drago (MLT) fell to the sharp blade of Evgenii Buslaev (RUS) with 8:6. Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) ended Mario He’s (AUT) medal hopes with 8:6.
In the women’s division, Petra Stadlbauer (AUT) defeated Junior World 9-Ball Champion Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) surprisingly clear with 6:1. Defending Champion Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) is right on track. She beat Ana Gradisnik (SLO) 6:1.

Impressive victory for Jentsch
Friday, 23 March 2012: Dominic Jentsch (GER) has eliminated Evgen Novosad (UKR) from this year’s 10-ball Dynamic European Championships. He defeated Novosad with 8:4.
Both players showed really good pool and played extremely strong in the beginning of the match. They both had only one problem: The break shot! Jentsch won the lag, broke, came up dry and Novosad ran out. Then the other way around, Novosad broke dry and Jentsch ran out. That was repeated until the 7th rack. There, Novosad missed a ball and Jentsch took the lead for the first time making the score 4:3. The next rack provided the first useable break shot, executed by Novosad. Two balls went in the pockets but he did not have a shot on the 1-ball. This time, Jentsch missed the 1-ball and Novosad started pocketing balls until he found himself snookered on the 5-ball. Suddenly something funny happened:
He seemed to have forgotten his jump cue and asked Jentsch whether he could borrow his. Jentsch agreed with a smile and Novosad pocketed the 5-ball and ran the rack. Both players smiled about that. The score was even again, 4:4. Then Jentsch broke and Novosad played a strange safety which Jentsch handed back. Novosad left a shot for Jentsch and the German ran out. The next rack, Novosad came up dry again and Jentsch ran out again, now leading 6:4. The next two racks went into Jentsch’s account in a similar way and Jentsch proceeded to the round of the final 64 players. Novosad’s dreams have been shattered for this year’s 10-ball competition.

Dos Santos steamrolls Wesolowska
Friday, 23 March 2012: Laetitia Dos Santos (FRANCE) showed no mercy and steamrolled her opponent Katarzyna Wesolowska (PO) with 6:1.
The match was completely determined by Dos Santos. From the very beginning, she seemed to be more focussed than Wesolowska. In the second rack, Dos Santos broke and came up dry. Wesolowska pocketed all balls and scratched avoidably on the 5-ball. Does Santos accepted the gift and took a 2:0 lead. That continued throughout the whole match. While Wesolowska was struggling to find her game, Dos Santos got stronger and stronger and even started to run out complete racks like in the 4th rack.
At a score of 4:0 in favour of the French, Wesolowska managed to get her “consolation game”. She benefitted from a bad safe from Dos Santos and it looked like she was getting in stroke a bit better. But the very next rack destroyed that hope. She missed the 1-ball two times and Dos Santos was on the hill, leading 5:1. In the 7th rack, Dos Santos ran out of position on the 8-ball but played a lucky safe. Wesolowska fouled and Dos Santos took the rack to win the match with 6:1.
Other notable results include the defending Champions all winning their opening match. Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) handed a doughnut to Sara Roche (POR) and won clearly with 6:0.
Stephan Cohen (FRANCE) defeated yesterday’s bronze medallist Denis Grabe (EST) with an impressive 8:3. In the wheelchair division, Jouni Tahti (FIN) got defeated by Fred Dinsmore (IRE) with 3:5.

Czuprynska wins over Gradisnik
Friday, 23 March 2012: World 9-Ball Champion in the girl’s division, Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) just defeated Ana Gradisnik (SLO) with 6:4.
Today, the 10-ball competition has started at the Dynamic European Championships Pool-Billard in Alvisse Parc Hotel, Luxembourg. In one of the first encounters, two young ladies had to face each other: Junior World 9-Ball Champion Oliwia Czuprynska and Ana Gradisnik who became 2nd in 9-ball and 3rd in 8-ball at last year’s Junior European Championships.
The match was determined by many errors on both sides. Both young ladies seemed to be quite nervous and kept missing important shots which in turn kept the match close. However, Czuprynska got her game first and took a 3:1 lead over Gradisnik. The Slovenian was able to take the next rack, closing the gap to 2:3. She then broke the balls, pocketed the 2-ball and ran all balls but dogged the 10-ball! That was easy prey for Czuprynska, taking a 4:2 lead. The next rack was almost a replay of the one before with changed sides. Czuprynska broke and ran all balls until she missed the 9-ball. 4:3 instead of 5:2! In the end, Czuprynska and Gradisnik both did not play their A-game. Since Czuprynska committed less mistakes, she was able to take the match with 6:4.
Other notable results include Ivica Putnik (CRO) defeating Tony Drago (MLT) with 8:6. In the wheelchair division, Jo Schuler (GER) received an unexpectedly high loss from Fred Dinsmore (IRE) with 0:5.
