Elsewhere in the event the UK’s #1 wheelchair American pool player Roy Kimberley holds onto the BWPPA top spot with just one event remaining on the 2011 tour. Kimberley, known as “the Sandman” on tour went all the way to the semis before being dispatched by Southern. A 7-3 victory over Craig Welsh kicked things off for Roy, Sheffield’s Gary Swift was next in line and was beaten 7-5, before Kimberley came up against Southern in the semi-finals. Kimberley who has been at the hands of so many tour defeats for Southern was finally beaten 4-7.

The final was contested between Tony Southern and Phil Hendrickson, Hendrickson a newcomer to the BWPPA tour playing in just his 5th event. The final was a battle in every sense of the word and could have easily gone either way but Southern’s experience told in the end, taking the win with a 7-5 win. Sothern is now tied with Aslam Abubaker in second place in the BWPPA Main Event rankings on points.

After the final Southern said of his win “I am delighted to win my first tour event at my home club, especially after losing in so many finals. I would like to thank Lee Brett for his advice and Karl Boyes for his excellent coaching which I would recommend. Big thanks to John Beckinsale at Rileys Wavertree for all his hard work and support. A big thank you also to my main sponsors HASSRA and Predator Cues, and of course to the BWPPA tour sponsors”.

In the Challenge Cup final Shaun Madin defeated Danny Luton 5-3.
