Action from the inaugural British Wheelchair 10-ball Pool Championship

Kimberley makes it Three In a Row

Rileys Barnsley was the venue for the inaugural British Wheelchair 10-ball Pool Championship on the 11/12th June 2011. The event was a sure success welcoming two BWPPA newcomers Arni Chan and John Greensmith, while Pete Dawson and Sheikh Haider returned to the BWPPA having played one event in the previous five.

Roy Kimberley “the Sandman” made it 3 out of 3 in 2011 on the BWPPA tour. Kimberley got his campaign off to a winning start over Welshman Phil Hendrickson, who has made a promising start to his BWPPA career since he played in his first event in October 2010, on this occasion however Kimberley was the victor with a 7-4 win. It was another 7-4 win for Kimberley in the next round but this time he faced much more experienced opposition in Danny Luton, who had already recorded wins over Pete Dawson 7-3 and Gary Swift 7-4

Luton and Kimberley were to meet in the first ever British Wheelchair 10-ball Championship final and it can only be described as an epic match. Luton took the first rack, this was followed by a Kimberley charge that saw him take the next 5 racks. Luton then began clawing back the racks until Roy Kimberley eventually took the title with a 7-5 victory.

The Challenge Cup final was equally thrilling and was contested between the English 8-ball wheelchair World Champion Gary Swift and Welshman Phil Hendrickson who took the Challenge title at BWPPA event 2 in Birmingham. Hendrickson raced into a 2-0 lead, which Swift pulled back to level 2-2. It was nip and tuck all the way until Swift eventually got over the line 5-3.

The BWPPA is the second largest wheelchair pool tour in the world and the largest outside of the USA and with 2 events left in the 2011 tour there has never been a better time to join up. You could potentially represent Great Britain in the World and European Championships. For more information on the BWPPA and how to join please visit www.bwppa.org
