Stroud company makes debut at Asian Games

When the 16th Asian Games, second only in size to the Olympics, gets underway in China next month it will be a significant occasion for Gloucestershire billiard cloth manufacturer Milliken.

For the first time Stroud-based Milliken is providing the Games organisers in Guangzhou with two of its most-successful brands, SuperPro for eight and nine-ball pool and Strachan 6811 for the snooker programme.

The company has been building its business in Asia for many years and is currently the official cloth supplier to the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports.

Two million tickets go on sale this month and 8,000 competitors will attend the opening ceremony on November 12.

“Snooker is extremely popular in China and the Far East and we are delighted to be invited to take part as a specified supplier,” reports Milliken marketing director Duncan Kettell.

“Ten gold medals are available to the men’s winners of individual and team snooker, eight and nine-ball pool, carom and 6-reds snooker,” said Duncan.

SuperPro is the company’s premium worsted American pool cloth and is exported to many countries, while Strachan 6811 is the cloth of choice by most of snooker’s regulators including the International Billiards & Snooker Federation.

“Having recently provided cloth for the Shanghai Masters, broadcast by Eurosport, we are delighted that our products have been chosen for this extremely prestigious event, which attracts a huge televised audience,” added Duncan.
