World Team Championship in Hannover, featuring supporting billiard exhibition

From January 30th to February 7th 2010, the gaze of billiard fans from across the globe will be directed at the Hannover exhibition center where, for the first time ever, the international World Team Championship in billiards are being staged.

The event organizer is Basevents Europe Ltd. in cooperation with Fachausstellungen Heckmann GmbH, a member of the Deutsche Messe Group of Companies. The championships are officially supported by the World Pool Billiard Association.

Some 200 professionals from around the world will compete from January 30th to February 7th in exhibition hall 13 for a total of 400,000 dollars in prize money. Commitments have already been received from Ralf Souquet (40), multiple winner of the World Pool Masters and the US Open, as well as from Oliver Ortmann (42), two-time world and 14-time European champion as well as from world and European champion Thorsten Hohmann

The line-up also includes stars from Japan, Holland, the United States and other nations, including the Prince of Brunei Al-Muhtadee Billah (35).

Bleachers for around 4,000 spectators as well as 32 billiard tables will be set up in Hall 13.

According to Mike Neubert (41) of Basevents Europe Ltd.: “The contests will consist of 8-, 9- and 10-ball matches in teams of four to six players.


Parallel to the championships, an exclusive Billiard Exhibition will take place in the same hall from February 3rd to 7th, featuring the latest trends and innovations from the world of billiards for professional and hobby players alike. As Lars Pennigsdorf, spokesperson for Fachausstellungen Heckmann, reports: “The demand for billiards has gone up considerably, with some 4.5 million people playing regularly in Germany alone. In Europe as a whole, the figure currently stands at about 50 million, with more then 100 million people playing on a regular basis worldwide.”

The World Team Championship and Billiard Exhibition runs concurrently with ABF, northern Germany’s biggest recreation and shopping exhibition (from January 30th to February 7th).

Admission tickets are valid for both events.

The official partners of the World Team Championship include the city of Hannover. As Lord Mayor Stephan Weil puts it: This event goes perfectly with our city. The title competitions within the scope of ABF perfectly integrate both the sporting and the exhibition side of Hannover.”

Additional partners include the TVN Group, which is responsible for the worldwide broadcasting via TV, radio and Internet as well as Hannover 96 Sales & Service GmbH, Lufthansa, Sport- und Eventmarketing GmbH (SEM) and the Best Western Park Hotel Kronsberg.

The world championships are powered by the European Pocket Billiard Federation, the international Billiard Promotion and the German Billiards Union.
