Tournament Director Chris Billings made sure it all runs like clockwork.
Matt Ford beats James Welch in Final at Southfields
39 players started at Southfields on Sunday, and after all the action from the Group Stages, and the Last 32 Single Elimination rounds, only two players remained... Local hero Matt Ford and the challenger from Chichester James Welch. Both players have had tough routes to the final, Welch only just managed to qualify as he finished third in his group, but then he played some of the best pool in his life to beat Phil Wildman 7:0 in the single elimination rounds.
In contrast, Ford finished top of his group, a group which included such pool luminaries as Andy Nicholson and the aforementioned Phil Wildman, and nothing could stop Matt in the final as Welch admitted he was drained, Ford steamrolled to an impressive 9:3 victory!

The players who finished top of their group were rewarded by being seeded through to the Last 16 Single Elimination Round, whilst all other's had to battle through the extra Last 32 round.
Rileys Southfield is a joy of a club, the most decorative and airy cinema conversion I've ever seen, and the bright and airy atmosphere is well complemented by some nice and friendly staff and it's superb location in the village-like environs of Southfields - you'd never guess you were in London when you walk outside!
Tournament Director, Chris Billings, said, "The club lends itself well to tournament play, as you can run the groups on all 16 tables at the beginning, and then cut that number down to the 8 top tables for the single elimination rounds".
The final was finished by a very acceptable 9.30pm and by that time a few more players had turned up and there were some sets being played for £50 and £100 afterwards.
All-in-all, a really pleasant event!
