Article - Lev Yaroslavtsev - www.billiard.su Photography - ©JP Parmentier - jpparmentier.com
This year's Kremlin Cup 10-Ball event featured the strongest field ever with 10 out of 30 top WPA ranking players coming to Moscow. For the second year straight 101 participants filled the double elimination bracket with knock-out stage for last 32. Kremlin Cup is a WPA sanctioned event and for the first time it appeared as one of European qualification events for the Mosconi Cup. Therefore many pros travelled to Russia chasing valuable points.
Once again Poland appeared with strong representation led by Mateusz Sniegocki (World Pool Masters and Kremlin Cup winner back in 2012). Radoslaw Babica handed defeat to one of Russian top guns Konstantin Stepanov in the round of Last 16 and Wojciech Szewczyk managed to send no other than Shane Van Boening packing. Six Polish players advanced to single elimination but none of them finished on top four. Same goes about the Russians. None of the local players which represent a mix of skilled experience and young talents managed to go past the round of Last 16. Ruslan Chinakhov looked heavy favorite to go past Petri Makkonen of Finland at the scoreline of 5-0 in favor of The Siberian Express. But the Finn capitalized on some late mistakes by Chinakhov and produced one of the most wonderful comebacks winning the match on the hill from being 1-7 down in a race to 8.

| The close association of gambling and cue sports |
The close association of gambling and cue sports
The close association of gambling and cue sports is something that people should take into account. This is an association that has certainly has an extensive historical background. Cue sports go back to 15th century Europe, and they have undergone a great deal of development since then. There are only so many cue sports to choose from, of course, given the nature of cue sports. Pool is probably the most famous and popular modern cue sport, although some people might still play Carom billiards, English billiards, and Snooker. Even in the earlier days of cue sports, people liked to gamble on the results. Gambling was certainly popular throughout European history. While many people in 15th century Europe disapproved of gambling, it was still tremendously popular. Games involving dice and cards were popular for the gamblers of the Middle Ages. As people developed new forms of games throughout the Renaissance and beyond, new opportunities for gambling certainly emerged. Gambling in the Middle Ages was largely about games of chance rather than games of skill. Pool and cue sports are partly appealing because they are both games of chance and games of skill.

IPA present - 2017 IPA Tour Event 5 – The British Open Heston Hyde Hotel North Hyde Lane Hounslow TW5 0EP United Kingdom www.ipapool.com - facebook - twitter - youtube www.hestonhydehotel.com
Friday 29 September -Sunday 1 October 2017
Neil Raybone. IPA British Open Preview 2017
And so the IPA Pool Tour for 2017 draws to a close, with one more weekend of top class pool action to complete the set, and the titles of British Open, Professional, and Amateur Champions up for grabs at the Heston Hyde Hotel in Hounslow this weekend, from 10.00am on Friday 29th through to Sunday evening 1st of October. Add a long list of players looking for enough ranking points to be invited to turn professional next season, and the plain and simple fact that no serious sportsman or woman likes to taste defeat regardless, and the action will be as competitive and fiery as it was at event one, and with potential seeding ahead of the 2018 World Championships in February (open to all by the way) also at the back of some minds.

Baltic Pool League 2017 BAMS Pool House Cēsu iela 18 Riga Latvia www.balticpoolleague.eu - facebook - youtube - men's brackets - women's brackets www.bams.lv www.rart.eu

Battle of the Youth
The men’s division turned out to be a real battle of the youth as in the final four there were only young guns still in the bracket. The first semi final was a real cracker as two top youth players, not only in the Baltics, but in the world battled, out the place in the final. These two talents were Denis Grabe (EST) and Pijus Labutis. After a thrilling semi final Pijus Labutsi managed to get the most of it and proceed to the final by a score 8:6. The second semi final was between Mark Mägi (EST) and Vladislav Les (BLR). On the paper it promised to be as thrilling match as the first semi final. However Mägi was on top of his game and secured a comfortable 8:3 victory. In the final Mägi was unable to keep his concentration and Labutis cruised to an overwhelming victory 8:2.
This win was an important one for Labutis as he managed to close down to Mägi in the overall ranking and now he is fourth after leader Mägi, second Tuomas Riipinen (FIN) and third place Les.
Fefilova’s unbeaten run in Riga continues
Bams Pool House seems to be a very successful venue for Fefilova as she has not lost a match there for two years. Fefilova was really threatened in the women and oldboys division only in the first round when she won the hill-hill match over another Baltic superstar Anna Prisjaznuka. In her semi final she crashed Kateryna Polovinchuk (UKR) 7:2 and in the final Aleksandrs Kucmins (LAT) 7:3. Kucmins did not leave much chances to his fellow countryman Oled Demjanov in his semi final when he won 7:4.
After the Riga stage Janne Lehiö (FIN) took charge of the overall ranking, sharing the top place with Linda Guke (LAT). Similarly to first two places the third and fourth place are shared by Latvians Gatis Taube and Valdis Kleinhofs.

All credit to ABN Billiards for putting this on, and offering free live streaming from both the Kremlin Cup, and this event which I saw someone wittily refer to as the "Moscowni" Cup - and I'm wondering if the real Mosconi Cup Team Europe should take notice that Johan Ruysink is obviously doing some serious warming up of Team USA (albeit with Corey Deuel subbed in for Skylar Woodward) and if the European fans should be worried about meeting a more prepared opponent in Las Vegas this year?

| World #2 Jayson Shaw joins the DigiCue Team |
OB Cues - Press Release OB Cues 961 N Ave Plano Texas USA www.obcues.com - facebook
Monday 24 April 2017
Click the image to view the full size image - use "back" to return here. World #2 Jayson Shaw joins the DigiCue Team
We are proud to announce that Jayson ‘Eagle Eye’ Shaw has joined the DigiCue Team of Pro Players. Jayson is currently the WPA #2 ranked player in the world, one of the hottest players on the world tournament circuit and a threat to win any event he competes in. So why would one of the best players in the world endorse a billiard training aid? Jayson Shaw: “As good as I am playing right now, every now and then my stroke gets a little out of line. We all have bad habits that surface from time to time so when I practice with the DigiCue it immediately alerts me with a vibration when my stroke is not where it needs to be. When most people think of training aids they think they are only for beginners but I really do believe that the DigiCue can benefit any player of any skill level.”
Introduced by OB Cues in November 2016, the DigiCue has been one of the fastest selling products in the billiard industry over the last 10 months. It is a small electronic device that slides onto the back of any pool, snooker or carom cue and will alert you with a subtle vibration when it detects your stroke going off line, jumping up on the shot or poor follow through. With an MSRP of $99.99 and a replaceable battery that is good for 40,000 shots, the DigiCue is a perfect gift and a great compliment to anyone that wants to get serious about their game.
