The titles in the 8-ball individuals at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. In the ladies division, Germany had a perfect day and took all 4 medals including the title for Susanne Wessel (GER). In the senior’s division, Henrique Correia (POR) took the title.
The final match in the senior’s division was played between Henrique Correia and Jim Telfer (NED). The odds were totally in favour of Correia. With 7 titles under his belt already, he was set for his next title. Having defeated Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) 7:2 among others today, he was filled with confidence and started the match furiously. The first 4 racks belonged to him alone and it looked like Telfer would receive a nice whipping from him. The Dutch who had eliminated his teammate Jesse Thehu (NED) 8:7 in the semi-final needed to get a foot in the door in the match. His break shot did not work and Correia made no mistakes so the final looked like a quick and easy walk for Correia. But after the first 4 racks, Telfer got to the table and cleared two times in a row to set his mark in the match. Correia was warned. Telfer should not be underestimated. From the time on when Telfer opened his account on the scoreboard, he played stronger and used his chances. However, he missed a few critical shots at bad times during the match. Each time when he got closer to Correia, he missed a makable ball and Correia kept the distance to him. In the end, Correia finished Telfer with 8:6 which brought him his 8th title at European Championships. Jim Telfer is a very deserved silver medallist today.

The next medals have been awarded at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) and Ine Helvik (NOR) took the titles in the 10-ball division. Three out of a total of 8 medals including both titles went to Norway today.
The final match in the seniors division was as fiercely fought over as expected. Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) as well as Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) both have a lot of experience and several titles under their belt. In total, they have won 7 titles and won 24 medals on former European Championships. So this time, a real favourite could not be spotted at all before the match. And the match confirmed that assumption. They both took racks in turn and their play was determined by a lot of tactical and safety elements. In the end, Kristiansen turned out to be the stronger player today. His safety play as well as his pocketing skills out-mastered Wirsbitzki. He took three consecutive racks and made 8:5 the final score in his favour. Kristiansen seemed to have more power left in the end of the match.

2017 Mosconi Cup XXIV Europe v USA showdown set for Mandalay Bay 3950 Las Vegas Boulevard South Las Vegas Nevada NV 89119 USA www.matchroompool.com - facebook - twitter - instagram - youtube www.mandalaybay.com - discounted rooms
Monday-Thursday 4-7 December 2017
Chinakhov’s great season continues RUSLAN CHINAKHOV, who earlier this year won a World Pool Series event in New York, added to his impressive resume as he took down the Dutch Open on the Euro Tour to give his 2017 Mosconi Cup chances a real boost. It was the first Euro Tour win for the ‘Siberian Express’ as he looks to become the second ever Russian player to compete in the Mosconi Cup – Konstantin Stepanov was a Euro winner back in 2007. The win puts Chinakhov up to fifth place on the ‘World’ list and in second place on a tightly packed ‘European’ leaderboard. Players currently filling the top spots are Joshua Filler and Ralf Souquet (both Germany) on the ‘World’ list and Holland’s Nick van den Berg on the European list.

At the Dynamic Billard Dutch Women’s Open in the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands, Marharyta Fefilava (BLR) went all the way and pulled her first tour title, winning the final match 7:2 over Oliwia Czuprynska (POL).
Marharyta Fefilava had an easy start today. Her opponent in the first single elimination round did not show up so she advanced into the quarter-final without even playing. Then, she took down Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL) and Yvonne Ullmann (GER) one after the other, both with 7:4. So she was waiting in the final match. Czuprynska’s way into the final match was filled with highs and lows. In the single elimination, she defeated Ine Helvik (NOR) 7:3. Then, she marched on to a comfortable 7:1 over Melanie Suessenguth (GER). She then met Eylul Kibaroglu from Turkey in the semi-final. Kibaroglu had just ousted all-time favourite Kristina Tkach (RUS) 7:5 the round before. The match between Czuprynska and Kibaroglu was really high class with many runout from both players. In the end, Czuprynska got the better nerves and ousted Kibaroglu in a heartbreaker 7:6. The final match was not as close as experts would've expected it. Fefilava had the better roll of the balls and Czuprynska never really found her game at all in the match. Therefore, the clear final result of 7:2 in favour of Fefilava is more than justified.

Click the image to view the full size photo - use "back" to return here. Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) Chinakhov wins his first Euro-Tour
After a dramatic final match, Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) raised the trophy in the air at the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands tonight.
Chinakhov never had a victory at the Euro-Tour so far. However, this year he already won the European Championships 9-Ball and one of the WPS events in the United States. However, the Euro-Tour title was still not in his list of achievements. He made his way into the final match over Mats Schjetne (NOR) 9:5, Francisco Diaz-Pizarro (ESP) 9:6, Marco Teutscher (NED) 9:8 and finally his teammate Sergey Lutsker (RUS) 9:5. His opponent Christoph Reintjes (GER) also played an amazing tournament so far. His last appearance at the Euro-Tour is eight years ago and he came back to Leende to make it to the final of 199 top players, eliminating big guns including Jakub Koniar (SVK) 9:6, Wojciech Szewczyk (POL) 9:5, Niels Feijen (NED) 9:6 and Albin Ouschan (AUT) 9:6 in the semi-final match. The setup was prepared for a high-class pool final and the match kept all promises. Both players performed quite solid but Reintjes struggled with his break shot. After 6 racks, the German was even leading 4:2 with almost no break. That was due to the fact that Chinakhov missed some shots in the beginning and also played very offensively. But then, the „Siberian Express“ from Russia managed to turn the tide in the match. He took rack 7 after an illegal break from Reintjes. in the next rack, he missed an easy 2-ball but when Reintjes came up with a decent safety shot for him, he fired the 2-ball in with a jump shot and ran the rack to tie the match at 4:4. As the match continued, Reintjes could not come up with a good break shot. Out of 6 breaks, he had 5 of them illegal and had to give the table to Chinakhov. The Russian accepted those gifts and grew stronger while Reintjes’ performance suffered of course since he grew more and more nervous, seeing the score board only adding points on his oppenent’s side. In the end, Chinakhov took the match with 9:4 and deservedly won his first Euro-Tour event in his career. 2017 seems to be his year so far. Let’s see how long the „Siberian Express“ continues on that roll.

Anyone who wondered whether pool was an up-and-coming sport or not only needs to look at the entries for the 2017 IPA European Open this weekend to answer their own question – with 240 players this is the largest ever IPA event in its distinguished history, proving to everyone that the blackball rule set is the one the players want, and with its fast, aggressive style, it seems the one the spectators prefer as well.
The Double Tree Hilton in Coventry is the venue from Friday 11th through to Sunday the 13th where the best players will battle it out for both prize money and pool prestige, and with the familiar red/yellow balls that we all know so well, this is the game we have all played at one time or another, so one we can all understand.
Three tournaments will keep the Tournament Director and the players busy enough with one for the Amateurs, one for the professionals, and the Open itself (for both), so everyone has two bites at the cherry, though be warned, the standard can be frightening if educational for us mere “pub players”. Rileys Sports Bars sponsor this event for the first time with Marketing Manager Ben Pearce saying “We are honoured to be working with the IPA. Everyone at Rileys has worked hard over the last 2 years investing in our core values, our tables, and our customers” and as they have shelled out over £200,000, they clearly see the potential of our sport. They are even fitting the new Simonis 861 cloth in their Coventry site to up the standards one more notch, and it seems likely there will be a few well-known professionals who will be popping in for that bit of extra table time.

Day two of the 2017 UK Open saw play down to the last 16 in the Main Event and Challenge Event participants seeing their first taste of action in the two tier Challenge tournament. Amongst those expected to progress to latter stages of any competition, a host of resident GB9 players steamed through the field to advance beyond the last 32 stage.
One of those players is Elliott Sanderson. After losing out in a hill-hill battle to Daryl Peach on Friday in his first match, he battled his way through four consecutive matches to reach the last 16 stage. His first win was against GB9 newcomer Adnan Akram Bhatti, 10-3, before convincing wins against Martyn Taylor and Phil Wildman, 10-6 and 10-7 respectively. His last 32 match saw him playoff against Jamie Brennan for a place in Sunday’s last 16. Despite a great fight from Jamie, he couldn’t stop the 2017 Paul Medati Trophy runner-up from taking the match 10 racks to 6.
There was a battle of the Spaniards in the winner’s qualification round, with World Pool Masters champion David Alcaide facing World Cup of Pool playing partner Francesco Sanchez Ruiz. After going behind early on in the match, Francesco stepped through the gears to take the match 10 racks to 6. Francesco went on to face Ben George in the Last 32 match and progressed to the last 16 with a 10-5 victory. It was a different story for David though, as after qualifying through the losers qualification round with a 10-1 Victory over Tamás Vágvölgyi, he faced Karl Boyes in the last 32 match, going down 10 racks to 5.

Today’s action saw play down to the Winners Qualification round, with a host of top names making safe passage through the winners bracket. One of those players was David Alcaide, who had arguably the toughest opening round match against former Eurotour champion Wojciech Tradjos. David imposed his authority in the match right from the word go, progressing with safety 10 racks to 2. David followed that up with a win over Jordan Turner to the same score line to progress safely through.
Defending UK Open Champion, Niels Feijen, began the defence of his title by carefully progressing through to the qualification round. With Mosconi Cup ranking points on offer at this event, Niels will be looking to go deep and started his warfare with a comfortable 10-4 victory over Craig Seeney. Daniel Wells was next in Niels’ path and with a similar performance progressed with a 10-5 score line.
UK ranked number 1, Craig Osborne, will have to do it the hard way and battle his way through the loser’s bracket after a surprise defeat to Stewart Colclough. An in form Colclough, who has risen through the ranking list and currently sits at number 4, would have seen this as an opportunity to stamp his authority on the tournament, and after a hill-hill victory against Alan Bell in his first round match, shifted up the gears to progress to the qualification match.
Team Europe veteran Ralf Souquet has returned to the UK Open for the second time, after his runners up place in the 2013 Midlands Classic. Ralf has signalled his intentions to go all the way in this event, progressing to the qualification match at the expense of just a solitary rack. First up was Wales’ John Davies, returning to the tour after standing down at the end of last season. John’s return wasn’t to be a happy one as he was on the wrong end of a bagel by Europe’s most decorated Mosconi Cup representative. Steve Chick was to feel the wrath of Ralf in the next match, only managing a single rack as Ralf progressed 10 racks to 1.
