Tommy Donlon - Winner of the BPPPA Northampton Open.

THREE COURSE DISHER

The Tommy Donlon national pool parade marched through Rileys Northampton this weekend with yet another showing of his undoubted class and experience. In an eventful and somewhat controversial final match, Donlon overcame current World Pool Masters Champion, Raj Hundal by eleven racks to five to take the BPPPA Northampton Open crown and over a thousand pounds in prize money. The match was standing at 8 – 5 to Donlon, and the Irishman in play, when reaching over an 8 ball for a pot on the 1, Hundal stopped the play to claim he spotted Donlon’s shirt touch the impeding ball. After a lengthy and possibly heated discussion, Tournament Director Ted Bristow was called upon to make a decision. In the eyes of the rules, the correct decision was made as Donlon stepped back to the table and cleared. This lone incident though did nothing to sour what was a tournament of great pool, the Champion agreed, “This has been an event full of quality. Before the final I was really enjoying it, I had some good matches particularly with Andy Worthington and Dave McCarthy so I just hope it’s remembered for the right reasons”. Donlon’s triumph in Northampton should be remembered for him equalling a record of three BPPPA titles in succession; a record ironically set by Raj Hundal when he won the Wolverhampton, Darlington and Croydon Opens at the back end of 2004.

Tremendous Achievement as Kimberley leads Britain to Grand Slam Glory!

Congratulations to Roy Kimberly, Matt Duffy and Karl Read, the trio of British players who stormed the precious metals vault at the 2006 European Pool Championships and got away with Gold, Silver and Bronze in the Men's 9-Ball Wheelchair Division.

Britain's only Gold medalist at the entire event, Roy "Kimbo" Kimberley, from Birmingham beat fellow Brit Matt Duffy 7-5 in the final.

Duffy, from Clydebank in Scotland, secured his spot in the final after he totally routed Germany's Tankred Volkmer 7-0 in the semi final and receives the Silver Medal for the runner-up spot.

Karl Read, from Great Yarmouth, was awarded the Bronze Medal for another outstanding performance from a British player, only beaten by the eventual winner, setting up a full set of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals coming home to the UK.

Majid adds another "Bronze" to his medal collection!

Congratulations to Imran Majid for adding to the Great Britain stash of medals at the European Championships.

Majid was narrowly beaten 11-7 by the eventual winner of the event, Germany's Ralf Souquet in a tournament that has been dominated by the Germans.

The Netherlands Niels Feijen accompanied Majid on the third tier of the podium taking the other bronze medal after getting routed 11-4 in his semifinal match with Marco Tschudi from Switzerland.

Tschudi, in turn, took a pasting from the ever reliable Souquet in the final with the 11-6 scoreline telling the story of Souquet's dominance.

Peach gets Bronze for Great Britain!

Congratulations to Daryl Peach for making an incredible start to his European Championships offensive, with a Bronze Medal for his efforts in the opening event, the 14.1 straight pool.

Peach was the only non-German in the semi-finals with the gold medal going to Oliver Ortmann, a man no stranger to these events, having collected no less than 26 medals over the years. Ortmann beat his good friend Ralf Souquet in the final, and Souquet beat Christian Reimmering (who also recieves a bronze medal) in the other semi-final.

Over 200 players from 35 countries are battling for the prestigious medals in 10 days of non-stop pool competitions at the European Pool Championships 2006 in Germany.

Pro9 members cash in at MickeyFlynnsPoker.com!

Well, I asked for more Pro9 members on the final table, and that's exactly what I got, even as far as taking some cash too at the www.mickeyflynnspoker.com Cambridge $5,000 Online Poker Championship on Sunday.

Overall though numbers were down, maybe because it's "Mother's Day" or maybe because the clocks went forwards last night, but either way, it made it VERY good value for those who did turn up!
