2008 Universities Pool Council Nine-Ball Pool Championships

A monster weekend of pool unfolded at Solihull Rileys with the 170 plus university players battling it out in this 9-ball singles tournament. The race to five format, single elimination rounds whittled the players down to the semi finals on the first day, with the tables redrawn each round from the last 32 onwards, and in the meantime, eliminated players could enter a fun Scotch Doubles event. Team matches will began Saturday morning and concluded on Sunday, and the bonus is that everyone was able to watch The Mosconi Cup on Solihull Riley's massive projection screen - pool heaven!

    "Read More..." for the details.

Warwick's Matthew Bradley in action in the UPC Singles Final.

The singles championship final was a fairly one-sided affair with Matthew Bradley from Warwick University making all the running in front of what can only be described a "capacity crowd" gathered around Rileys Solihill's match table (incidentally it's still covered with Z9 cloth and it's still playing very fast and looking good too which is good news).

Bradley originally hails from Southport and has a strong snooker background with a high-break of 129 although he admits, "that was before I became a full-time student, lately my high-break is a lot less". Not that it matters, his current form was easily good enough to dominate the final and he'll be taking the trophy back to Warwick University, who have an exceptional record at University Pool events of the recent years.
