Paddy Mc Loughlin 2007 Cupid Cars All Ireland Open 9Ball Champion

Paddy Mc Loughlin Cupid Cars All Ireland 9-Ball Champion

Paddy Mc Loughlin claimed his fourth Premier Event title in 2007 with his latest victory at the 2007 Cupid Cars All Ireland Open 9 Ball Championship with an incredible 13-5 win over Gareth Deegan (Dublin) in the final to be crowned Cupid Cars All Ireland 9Ball Pool Champion for the first time it's five year history.

The two finalist pictured before play Gareth Deegan (Dublin) and Paddy Mc Loughlin (Down)

The Ginger Magician picked up the winner's cheque and trophy with a sensational performance at Frames Snooker & Pool Club Belfast over the weekend to see off the in-form Gareth Deegan.

McLoughlin also produced a fantastic display in the earlier rounds to overcome his other opponents when some of them pushed him all the way to the winning line. Starting it all off in the last-64 was Daniel Gorman (Antrim, 10-4), then Ciolean Massey (Antrim, 10-4), Paul Heaney (Tyrone, 10-8 ), Ronan Fay (Tyrone, 10-7), Gary Johnson (Antrim, 11-2) and Gareth Deegan (Dublin) in the final 13-5.

The finalists from both events Gareth Deegan (Dublin), Paddy Mc Loughlin (Down),
Matt Lawrenson (England) and Tony Burton (England).

“This is a great moment for me,” said Paddy, "Winning the biggest pool event in Ireland which has produced great champions over the years in its Roll of Honour list, Kevin Smith (England, 2003), John Wims (Kildare, 2004), Pat Holtz (Scotland, 2005), Sam Gibson (Antrim, 2006) and now myself."

“I’ve worked so hard, with months of hard practise leading up to this brilliant tournament and it has now paid off for me... It's unbelievable."

Praise most also go to Gareth Deegan for his gallant effort and performance in these championships which included his 11-10 victory over Manny Byrne (Down) in the semi-finals coming from 10-7 down to claim victory.

Paddy Mc Loughlin 2007 Cupid Cars All Ireland Open 9Ball Champion

Highlights:
Two great results came in the 2007 championship from 16-year old Mark Mc Donald (Belfast) and Tristan Byrne (Newry) when both players defeated past champions Pat Holtz and Sam Gibson.

The young Belfast player played fantastic pool to defeat last years champion Sam Gibson on a 10-2 score-line while the tournaments number 4 seed Tristan Byrne put in a fantastic performance to see off the challenge from Scotland’s top professional pool player and the 2005 champion Pat Holtz, with a 10-8 score-line.

Another superb performance came from 10 year-old Jordan Gorman (Belfast) playing in his first All Ireland 9Ball Championship, when the lad played tremendous pool only to be defeated 10-8 by Sean Donnelly (Lurgan) in the last-64, but he remains a great prospect for the future.

Thanks:
Once again another enjoyable and successful two tournaments staged by Ireland’s American 8 & 9 Ball Pool Tour and the organisers would like to thank each and every player who took part, and also to all the players who travelled overseas from England and Scotland which added a special spice to both events - and not forgetting all our main sponsors Cupid Cars , Avalon Print and Gerald Magee of Frames Snooker & Pool Club Belfast, because without all these special people it would be very hard to organise these prestigious All Ireland 9Ball Championships.

The last word was left with Paddy, "My aim this year was to try and complete the grand-slam on the tour by winning all six Major Premier Events in 2007 and this one is number four which leaves the Munster and Leinster 9Ball Championships... to complete the jigsaw."
