Gokhul’s The Man At T9B Amateur Series Event 9
The Total9Ball Amateur Series 2014 drew a step closer to it's conclusion yesterday (27/09/2014) with Event 9 of the UK’s biggest Amateur Series. This season, like the four previous seasons of this prestigious series, has been a cracker. St Albans Hurricane Room in Hertfordshire again were the host for the penultimate event of the 2014 campaign.
This event kicked off at 10.30am and the air was full of ambition as all players within the venue were desperate to produce their ‘A’ game and take down this event. Ramesh Gokhul had mixed emotions after his first round matches on both sides of the draw as an impressive 7v3 result against Tony Burton was followed by a 7v3 defeat at the hands of talented Jed Thompson. Phil Wildman setup a second round clash with Ramesh ‘Danny’ Gokhul by beating Mikko Tuomi 7v4. Paul Taylor got the better of Phil Wildman in the second side of the draw; Paul got off to an explosive start leading 6v1, Phil fought back gallantly to 6v5 but eventually Paul crossed the winning line with the end result being 7v5. Richard Twomey started the event in the best possible way dropping just 1 rack over his first two matches as he annihilated Ashik Nathwani 7v0 and Jaspal Bamotra 7v1. Panos Roules also began the event brilliantly with 7v2 and 7v1 winning score lines against Rick Collett and Veslin Papradanov respectively. Del Sim was pushed all the way by Jed Thompson but it was Del who converted the winning rack at hill-hill (6v6) to prevail.
Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.

Ok it was now time for the exciting T9B "10Ball Break Dish Roll-up" and we are now starting to talk some serious cash. The pot after yesterday’s sales increased up to a dizzy £630!!! This figure was broken down to £55 per ball with an £80 bonus for the 10ball clearance. The ball value is collectable after every successful pot, however carry on and miss a ball and you’ll lose the lot. The first lucky player was… Richard Twomey… He stepped up to the table in front of 20/30 people who surrounded the table. Let me tell you Richard Twomey breaks the balls well using his background of English pool breaking to aid him. One ball down and £55 is announced, Richard looks at the table and can see there is a massive chance to take this break dish pot down. A cut shot on the one ball awaited Rich, the angle is natural to the 2 ball with the rest of the table at his mercy… surely Rich was about to become a big cash winner… Rich cues up confidently but then wow he rattles the one ball to the top right hand corner with the cue ball almost in pinpoint position for his next shot!!! Unfortunately the ball hung and it was back to the bag of tickets to draw a second lucky player. Next up Tony Burton… dramatically for Tony he would get the break shot and the break shot only as he suffered the dreaded cue ball arc into the right centre bag. So a final player was drawn for a reduced ball value of £5 per ball with a £50 clearance bonus. Oli Waters was pulled from over 100 tickets in the hat. Oli broke the balls well and left himself a shot up the rail. Oli (without his own cue) ratted the one ball meaning all funds would roll over to Amateur Series Event 10 held on Saturday 25th October again at the St Albans Hurricane Room. Not to be missed!!
Back to the main event and Round Two of each side of the draw. Match of the round involved Phil Wildman and US bound Ramesh Gokhul, this as expected was a high quality match as both players mixed up attacking potting with some sound safety shots. It was Gokhul who advanced as Wildman was eliminated from the event. Neil Margossian ended Ken NG’s event 7v4 while Del Sim was worked hard by Panos Roules but did eventually book his place in the 3rd round. Del commented after the match that some key safety shots at the right time helped him over the line. Mark Parker got the better of Mark Hughes 7v4. Both Ant Ginn and Jed Thompson won their matches 7v6 holding their nerve against Lionel Brown and Jason Rosser respectively.
There as always was so much action at the Hurricane Room, we only report a small percentage. To experience the whole package you need to be at the venue and in the draw. On to round three, Lionel Brown impressively got the better of Neil Margossian 7v4. Del Sim always likes his matches to reach hill-hill and this time it was Ashik who was defeated by the smallest margin (7v6) by the tallest player in the field. Ramesh Gokhul took on Rich Twomey in this round and a 7v4 win for Ramesh must have pleased him no end after the way Richard began this event. Ant Ginn seemed to be rekindling some of his form from years ago as he bypassed Mark Parker 7v4. Del Sim was at it again this time with Nick Hampton, the match all tied up at 6v6 Nick however was in no mood to be defeated in this manner. Nick sunk the 13th 9ball of the match to book his place in the Quarter Finals 7v6.
As the Quarter Finals spots were being taken, we could see we were in for some cracking matches - there was nothing but talent from all angles remaining in the tournament as you will see from the results below.
Q1 Ant Ginn 7v2 Del Sim Q2 Ramesh Gokhul 7v4 Lionel Brown Q3 Wayne Rooke 7v4 Nick Hampton Q4 Jaspal Bamotra 7v2 Ant Ginn
From the results above you can see that Ant Ginn’s unbeaten run came to an end… meaning there would be no Jackpot winner at this event.
Ramesh now looked in full stoke and seemed to be breaking very well. Ant Ginn would be the man standing in between him and yet another T9B Final. Ginn as we all know is a tough cookie to crack and although Ramesh didn’t crack him he did sneak past him 7v6. There was also another 7v6 result in the other Semi Final match as friends collided, Jazz Bamotra took on Wayne Rooke and although Wayne did lead 5v2 it was Jazz who turned up the heat to win 7v6.
So the 9th Amateur Series event Final of 2014 would be contested by Jazz Bamotra and Ramesh Gokhul. Both players throughout the day have shown just how much quality they possess and this Final would come and go in the blink of an eye. Jaspal got off to a good starting leading the match 2v1 but it was Ramesh came thundering home to be crowned the Event 9 Champion by a 7v2 score line.
Well Done Ramesh another good win.
This series always attracts a lot of support and the rankings couldn’t be closer going into the Final Event with Phil Wildman and Tony Burton tied on 770 Points and Mark Parker just 10 points behind on 760.
Another brilliant event successfully brought to you by Total9ball. Thanks to all involved in the smooth running of T9B and to The Hurricane Room St Albans for the sponsorship of the equipment.
Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.
Roll on to the Next T9B event held on Saturday 11th October at the St Albans Hurricane Room, this event is different to many we run as it’s open to players of a -1 handicap or below only.
