At Times Unplayable Symons Multiplies his cash at Total9Ball MM2 event

Total9ball was again in St Albans yesterday for the second edition of the Money Multiplier Series. The Money Multiplier event is open to T9B graded players B or below. T9B Money Multiplier events offer the first 32 paying players the chance to play for some tremendous guaranteed prize money that increases at each event, The event is run with no handicaps, each player plays a minimum of two matches per event and the entry fee is kept low to cater of all players. It’s easy to see why places in this event sell up so quickly as it’s the hottest ticket in UK 9ball right now.

A very strong 32 player field was assembled for this event, I guess the £650 Jackpot prize was always going to attract the big guns. It was great to see so many quality players from years gone by returning to play competitive 9ball pool under the T9B banner, they included Anthony Ginn, Martin Correira, Matt Hyden Mark Stephenson and Tommy Donlon. Mix those names with Courtney Symons, Damien Massey, Luke Rollison, Ramesh Gokhul, Shaun Storry and Tony Burton. Wow this event was going to take some winning.

Matches began at 10am and there was certainly a buzz in the Hurricane Room as each player knew playing to the best of their ability and some luck at the right time would stand them in good stead to take home the loot and the beautiful T9B glass trophy. Courtney Symons day began with a good bit of sportsmanship as his match was pushed back as Paul Taylor was stuck on a delayed train. T9B rules state the match should be awarded to Courtney but he decided Paul's reasons were valid and the game should be played when Paul arrived. Courtney did get the better of Paul 9v5 and advanced into round two. Lionel Brown’s day couldn’t of started with a much harder task as he drew Tommy Donlon. Lionel however pushed Tommy all the way to an exciting hill-hill finish, unfortunately Lionel finished up just short and Tommy booked his place in the next round. Tom Staveley made a brilliant start to this event defeating Ramesh Gokhul 9v7 and Luke Rollison 9v6.

After the first rounds were completed The 10-Ball "Break-Dish Roll-Up" was announced. Players purchased raffle tickets and a lucky player drawn would get the opportunity at clearing the 10 balls. The way this works is each ball is given a value, the player can stop at any point but if a shot is played and missed any collected funds are lost. So the total pot was a whopping £320... The pot was broken down to £25 per ball potted and a £70 bonus for a 10ball clearance. The player pulled from the hat was Courtney Symons. The other 31 players and spectators gathered around the middle table of the Hurricane Room. Courtney broke the balls with precision and two of the ten balls dropped into the pockets, £50 was announced by Total9ball founder Phil Wildman, Courtney had a half chance on the one ball to the middle which would leave him a good chance of the clearance if potted. He decided to go for it but unfortunately the one ball hit the jaws. No money won and the pot rolls over. With similar sales at MM3 to MM1 and MM2 the pot should be around £500… £40 per ball with £100 clearance bonus. What a prize for a side event.

Back to the action and we will advance to the business end of the competition and avoid talking about my two defeats to Courtney Symons and Matt Hyden. The Quarter Final line up was full of talent and there were going to be some great match ups. Courtney Symons took on the only player remaining on the £650 Jackpot trail Zoltan Kojsza, Courtney wasn’t messing around as he played some unstoppable 9ball and he ended Zoltans Jackpot chances 9v1. Shaun Storry was involved in the other Quarter Final in this side of the draw, he took on Tommy Donlon and what a match this was... Two great players battling right to the death with Storry holding his nerve after a fantastic comeback to win 9v8. Luke Rollison was now well and truly back in form after his tournament win the previous weekend at the T9B Amateur Series. Luke took on a deflated Zoltan Kojska after his defeat to Courtney, Rollison controlled the match from start to finish as he ended up an impressive winner 7v2. Ramesh Gokhul was by this point in full stroke, this was proved as he defeated Matt Hyden 7v0, Matt looked like his 7v6 result against Tony Burton in the Last 16 zapped all of his energy.

The Semi Finals were upon us and with the standard of players that remained we knew there was still some thrilling action to come. Courtney Symons took on Shaun Storry in a race to nine and it was hard to know which way this one was going to go. Courtney though in a club were he has won many titles showed winning form to eliminate Storry 9v3. Storry collected the £100 Semi Finalists prize money. Luke Rollison before last weekend was stuck in a bit of rut form-wise but not now as he was back pressing for a second final appearance in as many weeks, standing in his way was Ramesh Gokhul. Luke, when full of confidence is a danger to any player in the UK in my opinion, he pushed Ramesh to the side and joined Courtney in the final 7v3. So there you have it, the final was to be played out by Courtney Symons and Luke Rollison. The players agreed to split up the prize money and play a race to five racks for the beautiful glass trophy. Symons loves a bit of glass and wasn’t going to let Rollison stop him adding another trophy to his collection. Courtney ended up a 5v1 victor. It has to be said Courtney Symons didn’t look like he had battled through Total9ball strongest field to date in the winners photo... He looked fresh as a daisy.

Well done Courtney Symons a great performance and it proves yet again that Courtney has got to be one of the best amateur players in the country.

Another great event and another title for Courtney Symons. Thanks as always to The Hurricane Room, St Albans for hosting the event, To Kim Rowlett and Nicole Hansen for running the TD desk, to Mark Parker for taking some excellent action photo shots during the day and to our Sponsors Dynamic Billiards and Ultimate Breakmasters.

Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.
