Wildman is back!

Saturday 10th May was supposed to be the date for the second Total9Ball Money Multiplier event but due to it clashing with 9ball in Holland, English pool in Yarmouth and Snooker Q-school, the date has been changed to the 7th June. T9B didn�t want to disappoint the players who weren�t away though and put on The Hertfordshire Switch event. This event was a mix between the 9 and 10ball disciplines and with a few side events added, T9B made sure the event was a fun, action packed day for all players.

18 players in total turned out in Sunny St Albans for this event, up first was the first round of the 9ball event, matches were played to standard T9B rules, races to 7 with handicaps added and alternate breaks. Phil Wildman began the day fantastically well with a 7v0 victory over Paul Choong, Ken Ng recorded his first ever T9B whitewash as he defeated Colin Connor of Norwich 7v0. Mark Parker was pushed all the way by new player to T9B Emmanyol but ended up a 7v6 victor. Match of the 1st round pitted the talented Martin Correira against Zoltan Kojeza but this match was all one sided as Martin raced to a 7v1 victory in double quick time.

The other side of the draw was a 10ball shoot-out format with each match just a short, tense race to 3 racks. Phil Wildman battled hard from 0v2 down to beat current T9B Amateur Series ranking leader Rattapol Sassmann 3v2, while crafty Ken was at it again with some new found confidence as he prevailed 3v0 against Steve Davison while another new player to T9B events Mike Llewellyn crept through 3v2 against Paul Choong.

At this point the side events would commence, first up speed pool, 16 players were paired in head to head battles with one thing in mind... pot the 15 ball in front of them quicker that the player on the table opposite. There were a few close races with one match going to the final ball. The winner of the event was Phil Wildman as he out paced Martin Correira in a lightning fast final.

Next up, the 1 rack shoot-out, players again drawn at random in a straight KO format. If the breaker cleared the balls, the opponent would get a chance to equalise. This event was won by Colin Connor as he defeated the side event king Phil Wildman in the Final.

Now the final side event was the 10 ball break dish. The pot was �80 therefore each ball was valued at �8. The way this event works is a raffle ticket was drawn, that player would need to make a successful break shot, after each successful ball potted the prize was announced and the player was asked if he would like to stop and collect or carry on risking the already collected prize money. As this was a one off event the pot didn�t roll over and players were drawn until somebody collected some money, Mark Hughes x2, Phil Wildman, Steve Davison all had a chance but missed or dry broke, then up stepped Mark Parker who hit a dreamy break and landed perfect on the one ball, he went on the clear the balls and scoop the �80 pot.

Back to the main event and it was to be all about three players from here on in, Mark Parker, Martin Correira and Phil Wildman as they all remained undefeated in both events up to the Quarter Final Stage. Mark Parker took on Phil Wildman in the 10ball race to three racks event the score went 1v0 to Phil, 1v1, 2v1 to Phil, 2v2 then in the decider Mark was in and missed the 9ball but luckily hooked Phil to which he missed and Mark advanced. This left the draw looking like this in the Semi Final Stage.

As you can see Martin was just two victories from becoming only the third player to become a double winner. Martin looked to be in top form as he defeated Mark Parker 3v1 but then he appeared to miss a few balls against Wildman to which Phil took full advantage of, ending up a 7v4 winner.

So the Final was to be Correira vs Wildman with the winner of the lag picking the discipline of the match. Martin won the lag and choose the longer race to 7 in 9ball rather than the lottery race to 3 racks 10ball.

Before the final began it was agreed by both players that the prize fund would be split and just the trophy would be played for. The final was played in a friendly fun spirit after a great days play it was Wildman who lifted the glass trophy along with his 3 month old daughter Maddie-Ann. The final score was 7v6

This was an action packed day to say the least and it was a lot of fun to be involved in. Smiles on all players faces win or loss which was brilliant to see.

T9B is back with the Amateur Series Mid Season Grand Final on Saturday 31st May then the following week its time to lose the handicaps as Money Multiplier is back in St Albans on the 7th June.
