Saturday 14th December was the date for the last Total9ball Amateur Series event of 2013. 33 players made an appearance to support this fantastic series. St Albans Hurricane room was again the venue and as always they did their utmost to offer the best facilities by re-clothing all the tables, it really was a luxury for the players, a few players mentioned in their opinion these tables were playing the fastest they have ever played on.
Total9ball were impressed to see so many new faces at this event mixed with the regular players and with a great atmosphere in the club we knew this was going to be a brilliant event. Matches began just after 10am after the draw was completed by Jon Butterworth.

The first name out of the hat was Tony Burton who was keen to impress as he is very interested in representing England in the Amateur Home Nations Event held the last weekend of March 2014, Burton started the event off well with a 7v4 victory over new player Christopher Hobbis. Tony however couldn’t continue his winning ways in round two as he ran into one of the pre-tournament favourites Zoltan Kojsza from Hungary,
Zoltan showed complete control throughout this match recording an excellent 7v1 Win. Tony was given his chance for revenge as Burton and Kojsza were set to battle again in round one of the second half of the draw, based on the previous result between the two players Zoltan Kojsza would have been a big favourite to overcome Burton however Tony had other ideas reeling through the racks at high speed to advance 7v2. Burton now down to one life and his draw wasn’t about to get any easier as he took on Liam Monk (T9B Amateur Series Grand Finals 2012/2013 Winner) Tony made the most of his handicap head start dispatching Liam 7v3. Tony was pushed all the way by James Welch but Burton confirmed his Quarter Final place holding his nerve to progress 7v6.
Dave Evans is still waiting for his first T9B title however he has been banging at the door for a while now with players regularly commenting that it won’t be long until he takes an event down. Dave's event began with a 7v6 result against T9B founder Phil Wildman, a break dish for Dave at hill-hill secured him the win. Evans had an up and down day as he followed this win with a 7v1 defeat against ever impressive Rattapol Sassmann, Dave's form then changed again as he recorded a magnificent 7v1 scoreline against a pre tournament favourite Richard Twomey. The results kept on flowing for Evans as he defeated Louis Heathcote 7v5 and Ramesh Gokhul 7v4 as he advanced to the Quarter Finals.
Before this event Rattapol Sassmann was ranked number two on this seasons Amateur Series Rankings and at this event he did his ranking no harm. Rattapol got the furthest with both lives remaining, with impressive wins against Aslam Abubaker 7v3, Dave Evans 7v1, Scotland's Jamie Murray 7v2, Jon Davies 7v1 and Jonathan Tindle 7v3. Rattapol confirmed his place in the final 8.
Mark Parker's day began with a 7v6 defeat at the hands of Paul McMicheal however after this defeat Parker's day improved as he set up a Quarter Final clash with Rattapol Sassmann by recording winning results against Christopher Hobbis, Filip Krawcyzk and Sam Sherwood 7v4, 7v1 and 7v5 respectively.
Louis Heathcote, Richard Twomey, Tom Staveley and Zoltan Kojsza completed the Quarter Final line up with the draw and results appearing like this:-
Zoltan Kojska 7v6 Richard Twomey Louis Heathcote 7v2 Tom Staveley Mark Parker 7v3 Rattapol Sassmann Tony Burton 7v3 Dave Evans
So we were down to the final four players and wow there was talented players remaining. Louis Heathcote and Zoltan Kojska both competing in the first T9B events battled hard for a spot in the Final, The players could only be separated by a hill-hill decider. Heathcote missed but left the balls safe and after Zoltan failed to get the safety advantage, Heathcote pounced and cleared the remaining balls to win 7v6.
Tony Burton flew out of the blocks against Mark Parker to lead 5v-1 however Mark didn't give up hope and put Tony under some pressure as Mark reduced his arrears to just one rack. With the score now reading 6v5 to Burton, Mark seemed to be in the zone but a rattled ball mid clearance let Tony off the hook and he dished to arrive in his First T9B event Final.
Tony Burton and Louis Heathcote split the prize money but played for a side £30 and the beautiful T9B glass trophy. This match was recorded and will be available for viewing soon. Tony had control of the match up until he reached the hill then Heathcote began his comeback to 5v6 Louis hooked Tony on the eight ball but Tony jumped the nine and cross banked the eight to land perfect on the nine ball to seal his first ever Total9ball tournament victory.
A great performance from Tony Burton, its been a long time coming but it was pleasing to see Tony striking the ball so well. Commiserations to Louis but clearly a very talented player and potentially he could be a top player.
Thanks to St Albans for playing great hosts once again, To Nicole for running another officiant tournament, to Mark Parker for taking some excellent photos, to our sponsors Dynamic Billiards, Kamui and Ultimate Break Masters.
The next event will be Sunday 22nd December. Each player will play eight race to three shootout matches. There will also be a one rack shoot-out, Speed pool, and a break dish so should be lots of fun
Nicole and myself will be at the Xmas event next Sunday at St Albans but after that we are having a bit of time out while we have our first baby. Mark Parker will be taking over the reins for a couple of months. Thanks to Mark for offering to continue the events for the players.
Watch the video of the final match between Tony Burton and Louis Heathcote.

About The Tour
The new Total9ball season is here and the Amateur Series is back for its 5th successive season and we must say it looks better than ever. During the close season T9B have secured a fantastic new sponsor of Dynamic Billiards. We are proud to have Dynamic Billiards on board and I’m sure you the players will enjoy the enhancements this sponsorship deal will add to an already brilliant series. Adding Dynamic Billiards to our superb current sponsors Hurricane Room, Kamui, Sanctuary Cues, Rileys and Ultimate Breakmasters shows The T9B Amateur Series is clearly the UK's biggest and best. Make sure your apart of this season, I promise you wont be disappointed.
Last season we used the 2x double chance format for a second season and again it worked very well with players gaining the maximum value money and getting the opportunity to play 9ball using one of the most fresh and exciting formats to ever hit UK 9Ball. This season we have decide to stick with the popular format and expect this season to be more popular than ever.
The T9B 2x Format
T9B double chance events seem to be the most popular format we use, we believe the reason behind this is because it offers unbeatable value, players are entered into the draw twice which means players can lose a match but still be the overall winner of the tournament, it guarantees each player a minimum of two tense knock-out matches and also means each entrance has the opportunity to get in the prize money twice. Feedback regarding these event has always been brilliant and therefore we feel using this format is the way to get the most players involved. Win all your matches and you can collect the Winners and Runners up prize money... a very nice days work. A beautiful glass trophy is awarded to the winner of each event and also to the overall winner of the rankings after the five event series.
Side Events
The break dish will continue as a roll up. The break dish roll up was first used at T9B events last season and as it wasn’t won the pot has now accrued to £100, this amount will increase each event until it is won. Raffle tickets will be sold at each event for £1 for 3 tickets. All money collected will be added to the pot. After the first round of matches two tickets will be drawn at random, the first player drawn will have the opportunity to break and dish the balls to take the pot. If unsuccessful the second player will get the opportunity, if the second player also fails the pot will roll over to the following event.
Rules
**A legal 3point break must be made **If a player makes a Golden break or combos the 9ball into the pocket, the 9ball will be placed on its spot and the player will continue his turn.
The Series will begin on 28th September 2013 and will consist of ten 9ball double chance events , a mid season Grand Final and an end of season Grand Final. Each event will be held at St Albans Hurricane Room with matches beginning at 10am sharp. Players must understand that while they are in the tournament twice still there may not be much of a break in between games.
