Liam Monk takes his first T9B title

The final event of the Total9Ball Amateur Series was held at St Albans Hurricane Room on Saturday 13th July. 24 players competed in this event all trying to secure their places in the Grand Finals held on the 27th July.

Again it was great to see new faces involved in this T9B event and the first ever woman entrant... Alexandra Cunha originally from Portugal is a very keen cueist and she proved she can mix it with the best amateur 9ballers in the country.

24 players entered which was a good attendance bearing in mind the heat however The Hurricane Room had the air con on full blast so the event was go go go.

Sunny Garib made it the furthest in both sides of the draw, reaching a Semi and a Quarter Final. Garib's results included wins over Aslam Abubaker 7v6, new player Bouyo Aguirre 7v1, Dave Nelson 7v3, Luke Rollison 7v3, Mark Hughes 7v5, Raeh Bituin 7v2 and Tom Staveley 7v3. As you can see Sunny didn't do it the easy way achieving great results against some fine players, Sunny did however come unstuck losing 7v6 to the overall rankings winner Tem Dixon and the eventual tournament winner Liam Monk 7v3 still a good day for Garib cashing in both halves of the draw.

Dave Nelson looked to have a great opportunity to do some damage at this event as he seemed to be timing the ball nicely, he achieved some fantastic early victories beating Lee McShane 7v4, then two lightning 7v1 wins over Glenn Cooney and Stuart Bond, he followed these with another 7v4 scoreline against Dave Evans. Each time I watch Dave play I think this guy really has a talent... I often feel he plays unstoppable pool and expect him to win lots of events, however I think the long drive from the Keithley area in the morning tires him at the latter stages of the tournaments. Dave 'Nelly' Nelson suffered defeats to Sunny Garib 7v3 and an on-fire Steve Singh 7v5. In the match against Steve Singh, Dave trailed, but fought back to level at 5 racks a piece, Steve then made the most of his opportunities to advance 7v5.

Ever consistent Tem Dixon was at it again, reaching the final to ensure he ended the season as the ranked number 1 T9B Amateur. Tem did however lose an early match to Mark Hughes 7v4 but followed this with a string of straight win results 7v4, 7v6, 7v2, 7v6, 7v6 these wins came against Tom Stavely, Dean Reeve, Jonathan Vaughan, Sunny Garib and Steve Singh respectively. Tem has had a brilliant d�but season at T9B spending most of it as the ranked number one player.

Mark Hughes was rolling back the years reaching the Quarter Finals of this event, impressive wins against Tem Dixon 7v4, a massive 7v1 win over Mark Parker. Mark however did find Liam Monk a little too strong in the Quarter Final as he was beaten 7v2.

Liam Monk bagged his first T9B event win, Liam looked confident throughout the whole event. Liam's victims were Dean Reeve (7v5), Aslam Abubaker (7v4), Adam Wale (7v0), as I mentioned earlier Mark Hughes (7v2), Sunny Garib (7v3) and a good 7v3 win over Tem in the Final making him the champion. The video of this match is now available online. Liam opened up a 6v0 lead I believe, Tem began to battle back but Liam run out a 7v3 winner.

Adam Wale recently had laser eye surgery and it was clear that this helped his game as he looked like a vastly improved player and I feel there is a lot more to come from Wale in the future.
