Souquet out !

In a match that contained all ingredients that a real thriller must have, Oliver Ortmann (GER) eliminated Radoslaw Babica (POL) from the event.

The match went ahead as tight as expected. In the beginning, Babica seemed to be the steadier player. He had the better defensive break and ran his racks while Ortmann needed Babica to make mistakes in order to put points in his account. Babica looked like the sure winner when he could not get position on the 10-ball in the 12th rack, already leading 7:4. Both players missed the 10-ball but Ortmann proved to have the better nerves. �I got a second life in that rack and I wanted to make use of it�, said Ortmann after the match. Missing the 10-ball in that rack was the beginning of Babica�s downfall. In the next rack, Ortmann was able to pocket a combination shot, playing the 1-ball on the 10-ball, making the score 6:7 from his point of view. Then, Babica played a poor safety shot and again gave Ortmann the opportunity to win another rack. Hill-hill match! Then both players took a time-out. When they came back, it was Ortmann�s break. He saw Tony Drago in the audience and told him to leave. �Tony and I are friends and I like him but every time when he is watching my matches I lost�, stated a superstitious Ortmann. Not today though. Ortmann broke the balls and had two easy shots in front of him to line up a combination shot with the 3-ball into the 10-ball. He called the 10-ball and made it, winning the thriller in Brandenburg tonight with 8:7.

In another encounter, soon-to- be hall of famer Ralf Souquet (GER) got ousted by dark horse Kevin Becker (GER). Becker was the underdog in that match but always kept the pace with Souquet. At a score of 2:2, Becker shifted into overdrive and snatched five consecutive racks fom Souquet, taking a comfortable 7:2 lead. Though Souquet was still fighting back, Becker managed to take the match 8:6 in the end.

EPBF EURO TOUR - Day 2 - Drago defeats Peach

Dynamic German Open down to 32 players

In an exciting matchup, Tony Drago (MLT) defeated Daryl Peach (GBR) with 8:6.

The complete match was determined by many mistakes from both players. Peach had the better start, gaining a quick 3:0 lead over Drago who tried for a long time to keep pace with Peach. The advantage of Peach was two racks minimum during the whole time of the match.

At a score of 6:3, Peach had the chance to get on the hill but he missed a relatively easy 5-ball. Drago thanked for the invitation and ran the balls, making the score 4:6. That was one of two major mistakes from Peach. The second one he committed when he was leading 6:5. He then missed an easy 8-ball and went back to his table completely frustrated. Drago again benefitted from his mistake and tied the match at 6:6. In the 13th rack, both players were very careful and preferred to play safety shots. It was Tony Drago who won the safety battle and started pocketing balls. But he unexpectedly missed the 3-ball. However, the balls on the table were not in favour of Peach. He scratched with the cue ball when he tried to play a safety shot on the 7-ball.

Drago ran the rack and went on the hill, taking a 7:6 lead over Peach. The 14th rack just demonstrated what had happened throughout the whole matchup. Peach ran the balls and missed an easy 9-ball. Drago closed the book on Peach, winning 8:6.

Other notable results include Oliver Ortmann (GER) crushing Dominic Jentsch (GER) with 8:1. Guilherme Sousa (POR) succeeded in coming up with the biggest surprise of the loser�s qualification round when he ousted Dutch superstar Niels Feijen with 8:5. Jayson Shaw (SCO) ended Roman Hybler�s (CZE) hopes for the title by creaming him 8:6. Mariusz Skoneczny (POL) remained victorious over Thomas Engert (GER) with 8:3.

The next round will feature the start of the single elimination stage of the event. 32 remaining players will fight for the title at the Stahlpalast in Brandenburg, Germany.

EPBF EURO TOUR - Day 2 - Karen Corr out

Roman Hybler - Czech Republic
Hybler just makes it to the just makes it to the qualification round

In a gripping encounter, Roman Hybler (CZE) ousted Karen Corr (IRL) 8:6 and advanced into the loser�s qualification round.
In the early stage of the match, Karen Corr was definitely performing better than Hybler. The Irish player who resides in the US these days and belongs to the top female athletes in our sport took an impressive 3:0 lead over Hybler. Two of the three games she ran out. She did benefit from mistakes that Hybler played. �You are always under pressure as a male athlete when you have to play against a woman�, stated Hybler after the match. �People expect you to win and this makes it tougher for you�. Corr struggled with her break shot. She did not make one ball in her first four break shots. In the 4th rack, Hybler was able to start his race to catch up. But only in the next rack, he again missed a makeable 3-ball and gave Karen the chance to run out. Corr ran out and the scoreboard showed 4:1 in her favour.

The next rack contained the turn for the match. Corr played a bad safety shot on the 5-ball, giving Hybler the chance to win the rack. Hybler missed and more safes were exchanged. It came to a point when Hybler found himself with the 8-ball lying close to the long rail and the cue ball in a possible position but with a very tough angle. He went for the shot in a �do-or-die� mood and made the 8-ball, then cleaned the table winning the rack to make the score 4:2. If he would have missed that 8-ball, he would have been in trouble. �I know that this was a crucial shot. I went for it and thought that it�s now or never. Fortunately, I made it�, said Hybler with a smile. The match went along and Hybler got into his game much better.

It was Karen Corr now who started to miss shots and run out of position. After hard work and a tough fight from both players, Hybler remained victorious sending Karen Corr home with 8:6. �Karen definitely belongs to the top women in the sport worldwide and I knew it would not be easy to defeat her. I had a very rough start but I am happy to be the winner in the end.� �I think I was the better player in the second half of the match�, said Hybler who has to win one more match in order to make it to the single elimination of the 32 best players of the event.

Other notable results include Noel Bruynooghe (BEL) whitewashing Mark Gray (GBR) 8:0. Gray will join Appleton on his way home who lost 2:8 against J�rgen Jenisy (AUT) earlier today. Senharip Azar (SWE) ended Martin Steinlage�s hopes for a better rank by defeating him with 8:3. Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) had smooth sailing into the next round, ousting Giorgio Margola (ITA) with 8:2. His fellow countryman Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) also made it into the next round. But he survived a thriller against Dominik Zajac (POL) barely with 8:7.
