Youth Championships declared closed after the award ceremony

Saturday, 06 August 2011: Team Poland in the juniors and Team Germany in the pupils division take the final Gold Medals of this year�s Dynamic European Youth Championship.

In the final, the Polish Team had to deal with the team from Hungary. Bence Varga (HUN), European Straight Pool Champion, defeated Konrad Piekarski (POL) with 100:40 in straight pool. To even that, Wojciech Szewczyk (POL), European 9-ball Champion, crushed Gergely Papp (HUN) in 8-Ball with 7:4. The 9-ball match had to decide. Here, Marek Kudlik (POL) remained victorious over Oliver Szolnoki (HUN) with 8:6. This made the final score 2:1 in favour of Team Poland.

EC YOUTH 2011 - TEAMS - GERMANY & POLAND TAKE THE FINAL GOLD

In the juniors division, Team Germany had a surprisingly clear victory over favourite Team Russia. Tobias Bongers (GER) won his 8-ball over Andrey Seroshtan (RUS) with 6:4. While Joshua Filler (GER) was still fighting in his straight pool match over Vitaly Pavlukhin (RUS), Nino Andreuzzi (GER) won the 9-ball match over David Maslov (RUS) with 7:3. What a surprise! Filler also won the straight pool to make the score 3:0 for the Germans.

After the award ceremony, Gre Leenders, President of the EPBF, declared the Youth Championships over. The seniors will start tomorrow.

Maslov, Szewczyk and Nechaeva got the Gold

Saturday, 06 August 2011: David Maslov (RUS), Wojciech Szewczyk (POL) and Anastasia Nechaeva (RUS) win the 9-ball Gold Medals in this year�s Dynamic European Youth Championships.

The final in the juniors division was a clear matter. Wojciech Szewczyk defeated Lars Kuckherm (GER) clearly with 8:1. Kuckherm�s break did not work and he missed some shots which enabled the young Polish player to win the title.

In the pupils division, David Maslov just made it over Joshua Filler (GER) with 7:6. The match was open at all times. Filler seemed to play a very aggressive style, trying to pocket every shot instead of playing safeties and tactical shots. However, it seemed to work for Filler. He was never far away from Maslov; the maximum gap between the two was a two-rack lead in the beginning, the 2:0 for Maslov. Then, they each got rack by rack which unavoidably led to a hill-hill situation at 6:6. Then, Filler went for the open table and had the chance to gain the title. But due to his fast and risky play, he scratched with the cue ball while pocketing the 3-ball. Maslov got ball in hand and ran out, winning the final with 7:6.

In the girls division, Ana Gradisnik (SLO) challenged Anastasia Nechaeva. The match was close and the Slovenian girl played a really unexpectedly good tournament this week. But it was not enough yet to win a title. Nechaeva did the better shots and won the match in the end with 6:4 over Gradisnik.

The team semi-finals and finals will be played next to conclude this year�s Dynamic European Youth Championships.

Thursday, 04 August 2011: The European Champions in the 8-Ball division are Lars Kuckherm (GER) in the juniors, Vitaly Pavlukhin (RUS) in the pupils and Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) in the girls division.

Lars Kuckherm defeated Wojciech Szewczyk (POL) with 7:2. The final match in the juniors division sounded very promising. Both players, Lars Kuckherm and his opponent Wojciech Szewczyk showed no mercy with their opponents so far today and played some ambitious pool. They made their opponents look like beginners. Now, they would meet: High Noon in Luxembourg. The match started accordingly. Lars Kuckherm broke and ran, and then his opponent failed to pocket a ball on the break. Kuckherm showed no mercy and ran the table again, taking a quick 2:0 lead over Szewczyk. Then something unexpected happened. In the third rack, both players missed easy shots and suddenly their confidence seemed to be a bit lowered. Szewczyk managed to snatch the rack, making the score 1:2 from his angle. He then broke but again no ball went down. And again, Kuckherm took no prisoners and ran the table. 3:1 for the German. The next rack, both players made some mistakes with Kuckherm winning it in the end, taking a 4:1 lead over Szewczyk. Szewczyk took a time out and came back to the table, breaking the balls with no ball going down again. From then on, no more mistakes were made which means that both players ran the table from then on and made all balls. The result was a clear victory for Lars Kuckherm with 7:2. �I am so happy that I finally took this title�, Kuckherm said quite emotionally after the match. When asked what the reason for his clear victory was, he stated �Wojciech�s break did not come. My break in this match was close to perfect and I really felt good�. �My first thought after pocketing the final 8-ball was that I have made it finally. Now I am going to the World Junior Championships to Poland later this year�. �But I also want to play well for the rest of the week, maybe getting another Gold Medal in 9-ball or the team�s event�.

In the pupils division, Vitaly Pavlukhin defeated Joshua Filler (GER) with 6:3. The setup for the match was very much alike in the juniors. Both players have played extremely well throughout the week. Filler took a quick lead over Pavlukhin and it looked like a done deal for him already when he missed the 8-ball at the score of 3:1. From then on, things did not work for Filler anymore while Pavlukhin became stronger. In the end, Pavlukhin did not allow Filler to take one more rack, winning 6:3. �I really thank my parents and my coach, Django, for making this all possible for me.�

In the girls division, Nataliya Seroshtan snatched the title from her teammate Darya Sirotina (RUS). Sirotina, who already won the 10-ball earlier this week, was playing on the 8-ball at a score of 4:4 when she missed it. Seroshtan, who thought she�d be already ousted, jumped back to the table cleared it and took the title in the girls division with 5:4.

Tuesday, 02 August 2011: The 10-ball competition has come to an end with the finals in the juniors, pupils and girls division tonight. Jim Chawki (SWE), Vitaly Pavlukhin (RUS) and Darya Sirotina (RUS) are 10-ball European Championships 2011 in their division.

The junior�s final started out unexpected. Jim Chawki was down with 2:0 to Alain Da Costa (nothing) and seemed to not be able to get the necessary momentum. He took a time out when he was trailing 0:2. That obviously gave him the necessary speed and he won the next seven racks, winning the match and the title with 7:2.

In the pupils division, Vitaly Pavlukhin defeated Tian Zhang (SWE) with 6:3. Zhang, who played very strong and solid in the semi-final match against Andrey Seroshtan, made too many mistakes in the final and left shots for Pavlukhin. The Russian, who is coached by Filipino superstar player Francisco Bustamante, played as cold as ice and used every single chance that Zhang offered him. �I travel to Manila 3-4 times a year�, said Pavlukhin after the match, �and I learn a lot from my coach.� �I knew when I entered the competition that I was going to be in the top spots�. �I have the feeling that this was not the last medal for me this week. I am especially keen on getting the gold medal in 8-ball as well�. Pavlukhin destroyed Zhang�s hopes for the title and won the final with 6:3.

Darya Sirotina had to face her Russian teammate Nataliya Seroshtan. Both young girls seemed to be quite nervous in the beginning. At a score of 2:2, Seroshtan took a timeout. After that, Sirotina got on the roll. She played much better than before and did not give one more single rack to her opponent, winning the match with 5:2.

Two close encounters provided the audience with a lot of high class pool

Monday, 01 August 2011: Bence Varga (HUN) and David Maslov (RUS) are the newly crowned European straight pool Champions in the juniors and pupils division.

Bence Varga had to deal with Marc Bijsterbosch from The Netherlands in the final of the juniors division. In the beginning of the match it could be seen that both players must have been quite nervous.

They fell short on position with the cue ball and missed some shots which they would probably not miss in another match. But playing in the final of the European Championship is definitely different.

It would be unfair to say that one player dominated the other; the scoreboard tells a different story. Sometimes Varga was in the lead, another time Bijsterbosch was ahead.

None of the two managed to take a big lead over the other player. Towards the end, Varga seemed to have the better nerves and took a 73:59 lead.

Bijsterbosch managed to close the gap a bit and even tied the game at 73:73. Then, Bijsterbosch had a good breaking position but he unexpectedly scratched. Varga looked like the sure winner now, advancing to a 96:73 lead when he misses another ball.

Bijsterbosch pockets another 9 balls and plays a safety shot which turns out to be not as good as he wanted it to be. Varga approached the table and pocketed the final four balls in order to win the match with 100:82 and snatch the title.

David Maslov - Russia
In the pupils division, an all-Russian clash between Vitaly Pavlukhin and David Maslov took place. Maslov has made some noise in the pool world when he kicked Ruslan Chinakhov out of the Euro-Tour event in Austria two weeks ago. After 20 minutes, the scoreboard showed a score of 3:2 in favour of Pavlukhin ! Almost only safety shots were exchanged. None of the two players wanted to start and take any risk. It was Maslov who gained the first momentum here and achieved a 44:7 lead over Pavlukhin. Having in mind that pupils only play up to 75 points, Maslov had done more than half the way already. But Pavlukhin did not give up at all. He tried to come back but the lead was too big already. The best he could get was to trail 54:63 to Maslov. At that point in time, Maslov went to the table and pocketed enough balls for his victory.
