Stephan Cohen - France Dynamic European Championship ends with the 10-ball finals
The 2011 EPBF European 10-ball Champions are Jasmin Ouschan (AUT), Stephan Cohen (nothing) and Jouni Tahti (FIN).
In the men’s final, two players met with a long history in European pool billiard. Stephan Cohen and Radoslaw Babica (POL) wanted to see who will be the sharpest blade in 10-ball… In the first racks, Cohen always started playing good safety shots, leaving nothing to do for Babica but trying to hit the ball on. Babica played two fouls and Cohen benefitted from that. He managed to lead 4:1 over Babica when the tide turned and Babica suddenly got the better breaks and won rack after rack. Babica took a 6:4 lead over Cohen, coming to the table with his own break. He knew he could put quite some pressure on his opponent of he broke and ran the rack… but he scratched on the break. Again, Lady Luck changed sides and things went better for Cohen. The French ran the rack and play another run out straight after, taking a 7:6 lead. With Cohen being on the hill, Babica came to the table again and had to break. He had no position and another safety battle evolved. Babica found himself with a long but possible shot on the 8-ball. He pocketed the 8 and the cue ball scratched. Cohen went to the table, pocketed the two remaining balls and seized the title of European Champion.

"Read More..." for the details.
Jasmin Ouschan was on a mission this week. She wanted to defend all four titles from last year but she lost in the 8-ball quarter-finals. So with that attitude, Jasmin entered the final arena and left no disbelief that she wants that title. The match was pretty one-sided since Nataliya Seroshtan from Russia had not many chances at the table to show her pocketing abilities. 6:1 was the score in the end that gave Jasmin Ouschan her third title this week.
The wheelchair final was a pretty clear issue. Jouni Tahti bowled over Henrik Larsson with a clear 5:1 victory. It was the two dominating wheelchair players of the week meeting in the “ultimate” final. Tahti has the 8-ball title under his belt while Larsson snatched the 9-ball title. So they came to the shootout at table 22. Tahti was ruling throughout the match, leaving no doubt that he wanted that title. Larsson had nothing to counter that with and in the end Tahti was the deserved winner of the final.
The Dynamic European Championships have drawn a huge amount of media attention throughout the entire 10 days. Many media representatives from TV, radio, print and internet media have covered the European Championships. The highlight was probably the 3 matches in the men’s 9-ball division that were covered LIVE by Eurosport, broadcasting to 58 nations worldwide. The arena saw between 150 and 300 spectators each day, watching the action in the Stahlpalast in Brandenburg a.d. Havel.
The most successful nation is Austria with 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze Medal.
Ralf Souquet - Germany Seroshtan to challenge Ouschan in women's final
In the women’s division, Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) defeated Anna Majirina (RUS) with 6:4. She played solid as always and left no chance for her opponent. Ouschan will have to deal with Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) in the final. Seroshtan has won over Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL) with 6:3.
In the men’s division, both semi-final matches were pretty one-sided. Radoslaw Babica (POL) ousted Russia’s Konstantin Stepanov with 8:2. His opponent in the final match will be Stephan Cohen from France who gave Manuel Gama (POR) the boot with 8:3.
The final in the wheelchair division will be a rematch of the 9-ball final. Jouni Tahti (FIN) triumphed over Roy Kimberley (GBR) with 5:1 while Henrik Larsson (SWE) won over Aslum Aboobakar (GBR) with 5:3.

The quarter-finals brought some unexpected results
Ralf Souquet, Huidji See, David Alcaide… all names of players with a great history and with a lot of titles under their belt. And there is something more they have in common now: They all lost their quarter-final matches in the Dynamic European Championships.
Souquet had another heartbeat match with Radoslaw Babica. The Polish player could have won 8:6 already but he missed the 8-ball, giving Souquet another chance at the table. Souquet made the score 7:7. Then Babica had his own break. He fired into the rack, pocketed two balls and ran the whole rack, eliminating Souquet from the competition.
Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) dominated Huidji See (NED) throughout the whole match. He took a 3:1 and 4:2 lead over See who achieved to come back and close the gap, still trailing 3:4. At that score, Stepanov did not allow See to take another rack, winning the match 8:3.
David Alcaide (ESP) was already 6:5 up when his opponent Manuel Gama (POR) pulled out his A-game and left Alcaide sitting in his chair, winning the match 8:6.
In the women’s division, Gerda Hofstaetter (AUT) lost to Russian newcomer Nataliya Seroshtan with 3:6.

Ralf Souquet - Germany Unbelievable performance by “the Kaiser”
Ralf Souquet (GER) aka “The Kaiser” defeated Mario He (AUT) with 8:7 after being almost out of the 10-ball competition. The match had one of the most dramatic finishes that one could possibly think of. After none of the two players could get a lead of more than one rack throughout the entire match, the situation came to an unavoidable hill-hill at 7:7. Then, after a few safeties were exchanged, Mario He was the player who got the first chance.
He pocketed ball after ball and he had only the 8-ball, 9-ball and the 10-ball left on the table, having a clear shot at the 8-ball. But the cue ball did not go the way Mario intended it to and he found himself on an awkward position on the 9-ball. The angle for the side pocket was too thin and he had to play a safety. He left Souquet the cue ball at the short rail on one end of the table with the 9-ball at the rail on the other end of the table. Probably the best safety he could have come up with in that situation. Ralf was sitting in his chair, having his eyes closed and seemed to be in a state of utter concentration After some time of thoughts, “The Kaiser” called the 9-ball in the side pocket and made the shot over three rails. He then pocketed the 10-ball and finished the match with a loud scream. “YES !”, shaking his fist and letting the tension leave his entire body. That was truly a Master’s shot !
