Swiss Open Day 3: Dominic Jentsch takes his chance!

18-year old German young-gun Dominic Jentsch has won the Swiss 10-Ball open which took place in Gstaad which is actually known for his tennis tournaments. Now it was Pool-Time for three days and lots of the best European players came to the wonderful Swiss city to fight for the prize money of 27.000,00 Euros.

At the end it was German straight pool champ Jentsch who took his chance and benefitted from the elimination of both top-favorites Ralf Souquet (Germany) and Niels Feijen (Netherlands) earlier in the tournament.

In the final which was dominated by Jentsch the last Swiss hope Ronald Regli who earlier sent Feijen back home had no real chance. 9:3 was the final result.

Prior to the final, around 150 spectators saw two very close semifinals. Marco Tschudi (Switzerland) was ahead 7:3 over his fellow countryman Regli who had a great comeback and finally won 9:7. The other semi with Jentsch and World Team Champ Imran Majid (United Kingdom) was decided at hill-hill. Majid was on his way to the final as he made a horrible mistake which costs him his place in the endgame.

Swiss Open Day 2: Still no surprises!

Day 2 of the Swiss Open in Gstaad also brought no surprises. In each of the 4 groups the favorites had mostly easy jobs to make it through the winner's round to get a place in the final 32.

Niels Feijen (Netherlands) and Imran Majid (United Kingdom), who arrived one day later in Gstaad as he missed his train to bring him to the venue, dominated the 5th group as Switzerlands Ronald Regli didn’t disappoint his local fans in group 6.

Also Sascha Specchia (Switzerland) who is part of the organization team didn't have many problems in group 7. Sandor Tot from Serbia made it a little more exciting for the fans by beating David Pascasi (Italy) with a 9:6 score.

Last but not least, Murat Ayas (Switzerland) and Dominic Jentsch from Germany made their way through the winners round in group 8.

On Saturday the final round of the best 32 players will start. A look into the draw shows that there will be very thrilling matches from the very beginning. The livestream on www.gstaadswissopen.ch will be worth watching.

Swiss Open: All favourites through to final round

On day 1 of the Swiss 10-Ball Open in Gstaad all favourites made their way to the final round. In four groups of each about 20 players the Top 4 were qualified for the single elimination stage on Saturday.

In Group 1 it was Michal Gavenciak from Czech Republic who had no problems and won two easy matches. His fellow countryman Roman Hybler who actually lives in Munich/Germany followed him only minutes later. On the one-loss side it was the third well-known player in this group – Vincent Facquet from France – who took his last chance by eliminating Harry Perathoner.

Whilst England's Imran Majid unfortunately did not appear in Switzerland it was young-gun Mario He (Austria) who was in the driver’s seat in group 2. Two very fast 9:0 and 9:3 wins let him go through to the final 32.

In group 3 it was time for the Swiss players like Dimitri Jungo and Marco Tschudi. Both had no problems to win their matches to make it to the final round. Group 4 was dominated by German World Games Champion Ralf Souquet. He only lost three games in two matches, so it was a very short appearance of “The Kaiser”.

Harald Stolka, former EuroTour-Champion from Germany, had a few more problems but finally had the better end in a very close match against Rolf Hollenstein.

DAY 1 - TOURNAMENT PREVIEW - 2010 GSTAAD SWISS OPEN

Swiss Open in Gstaad just started

Today the group stages of the Gstaad Open in Switzerland have started. Although the tournament is not sold out lots of good players like German Ralf Souquet and Imran Majid from England are attending.

Instead of 256 players only around 80 players are taking part in this pan-european event. Therefore the prize money had to be reduced by half one week before the tournament start. But chief organiser Marcel Frattini had a little surprise for the sportsmen in his opening speech today. “We had to reduce the prize money, therefore we’ve decided to half the entry fee also”. So all players will get back 75 Euros from the already paid 150.

“The tournament wasn’t well dated, entry fee was too high and we made mistakes in the organization”, Frattini added. He also mentioned that the German league system starts this weekend which costs him lots of players. Furthermore the World Cup of Pool just finished and the China Open are yet to come.

Despite this, the Gstaad Open will still pay out 20.000,00 Euros added money and is therefore still one of the biggest tournament in Europe 2010.
