Roy Kimberley with two trophies from the weekend.

    Kimberley Regains Number 1 Spot!

The 3rd British Wheelchair Pool Players Association's (BWPPA) ranking event of the season at Riley’s in Wavertree, produced a weekend to remember for Roy Kimberley as he again swept through the field and came out victorious in two of the three events staged over the weekend of 5/6 September, which was a repeat of his performance in Barnsley at event 2.

    "Read More..." for further details!

In the ‘pro’ event for the elite players, Kimberley suffered an early defeat to Gary Swift 7-6, but came back strongly through the losers side of the draw, with wins over Karl Read and Ireland’s Fred Dinsmore, this earned him a semi-final match with old rival Matt Duffy which he won 7-5.

In the other half of the draw, Tony Southern who played solid all weekend also recovered from an early defeat to Gary Swift, but came back through the losers side to defeat Swift 7-5 in the semi-final.

Kimberley’s play in the final was impeccable, and he hardly missed a ball in a 7-2 victory over Southern which included 3 break and runs.

In the main event where all the players compete, he beat Mark McNeil (7-1), Graeme McClounnan (7-4) and a 7-0 whitewash over Dinsmore, before a 7-2 win in the final over BWPPA Chairman Matthew Gleaves, secured his 2nd win of the weekend,

Gleaves had previously made a miraculous comeback over Matt Duffy coming from 6-2 down to win 7-6 and with the confidence gained from that match, he went on to win 7-4 against Karl Read the current No.1, but Kimberley was to prove too strong for Gleaves in the main event final.

Kimberly now also tops the main event ranking, and is on course to win a custom cue made by Wayne Holmes worth a cool £1,000!

In the challenge event, it was newcomer Paul ‘Ank’ Stevenson who took the Challenge Event at his first BWPPA appearance with a last ball 5-4 victory over Frankie Gillen in the final.

Kimberley was presented with his trophies on the Sunday by Sandra from Rileys, and all at BWPPA want to thank Sandra Orme and John Beckinsale, and the rest of the staff at the club for putting on such a great event, and it really is a great club, 3 tables were re-clothed for the event, including one with a cloth supplied by our sponsors Simonis, and the staff also made sure that the other tables used were in the best condition possible.

The final event of the BWPPA Tour for 2009 will be held at Barnsley on the 5th-6th December. With no out and out leader of any of the 3 ranking events it is still open who will take home the prizes from the bumper prize pot of a Wayne Holmes Custom Cue, Poison Cues and Talisman Cue Cases.
