TOUR EVENT 2 - REARDON'S SOUTHSIDE

Polish visitor Piotr Ostrowski won the second stop on the SAPPA Black Bottle Scottish 9-Ball Tour at Reardon's Southside in Glasgow with a comprehensive 10-6 victory over Larkhall-based Scott Gillespie. Ostrowski, who previous played on the SAPPA Tour when he lived in Scotland a couple of years ago, went through the whole weekend undefeated taking some impressive scalps on his way to the title.

"Read More..." for the details.

Even with some last-minute withdrawals from the tournament, a total of 54 players arrived at Reardon's Southside over the weekend to play. With the top 16 ranked players seeded straight through to the Sunday, 38 players were there on Saturday to fight for the 16 spots available the following day. As always, there were a few surprise results, one of the main ones being Event 1 Runner Up Scott Ross's back-to-back losses to be eliminated from the event very quickly.

Among the standout matches in the last 32 were Davy Jack versus Jayson Shaw, which Shaw won 10-6 in double-quick time, Darren Murray's match against Scott Gillespie, with Gillespie just making it past Murray, and Pat Holtz going against snooker player Marc Owens who was playing in his first SAPPA Tour Event, with Owens managing to get past the Scottish number one in a very tight match.

The last 16 was full of excellent matches. The aforementioned Piotr Ostrowski continued his run through the tournament with a well-executed 10-7 victory over Michael Valentine. After the match, Valentine had nothing but praise for Ostrowski's ability with the break. Another excellent match was the one between Stevie Capaldi and Clark Smith with Capaldi, formerly ranked number 3 in Scotland, managing to get past the ever-steady Smith by 10 racks to 6.

The Quarter Finals saw the long-overdue return of Tam Walkinshaw to the latter stages of a SAPPA Tour Event. Sadly for Tam, his run in the event came to an end at the hands of Mr Ostrowski while Scott Gillespie continued his nail-biting run through the event, this time with a final rack win over Greg Alexander. Stevie Capaldi's tournament came to an end at the hands of the ever-brilliant Jayson Shaw while 2009 SAPPA US Open Championship Qualifier Winner Andy Morris continued making his way through the event with a 10-6 victory over Chris Cowie.

Both semi final matches turned out to be excellent affairs with brilliant pool being played by all 4 players. In the end, Ostrowski and Gillespie, both of whom had been playing some of the best pool throughout the tournament, made it through to the final.

RUNNER-UP - £200

During the final, as he had throughout the entire weekend Ostrowski's break was working wonders making at least one or 2 balls on each break. Gillespie put up a brave fight, but the Polish player proved to be too strong in the end taking home the trophy and the £400 first prize.
