Andreas Roschkowsky is The LONGONI Benelux 10 Ball Open Champion.

The Final, Andreas Roschkowsky 9-6 Niels Feijen

Niels was trailing quite a bit from the start, but his resilience brought him back to 6-6. It was a long spectacular match, with both players displaying incredible showmanship: safety play, kick shots, run outs, the whole lot. At the end, Roschkowsky showed more composure and was able to dictate the match. € 2.500 to the champion, € 1.500 to the runner up.

    "Read More..." for the details.

Kevin Becker at the Longoni Benelux 10 Ball Open

The losers final, Kevin Becker 8-4 Oliver Ortmann
Kevin Becker was the player with the loudest and most powerful break shot, throughout the tournament. Although he ended in the losers round, no honour was lost, as he lost to the champion. he beat Ortmann with conviction. As always, 'The Machine' Ortmann entertained the crowd with his inspirational play. Becker, 3rd place, won € 900. Ortmann, 4th place, cashed € 600.

Serge Das at the Longoni Benelux 10 Ball Open

The Winner Takes All Ring Game, Serge Das € 1.250,-
In a thrilling Ring Game, during a little less than four hours, Niels 'The Terminator' Feijen (NL), Oliver 'The Machine' Ortmann (D), Serge Das (B), Pascal Budo (B) and Jimmy Worung (NL) faced each other for € 250,- each. Each forty five minutes, the stake was raised, starting with € 25,- per frame per player to pay to the winner of that particular frame. Then, it was raised to € 50, € 75, € 100 and finished off with the lowest stack on the board, all in. Niels started great and took the first frames, enabling him to build his stack. Ortmann levelled his stack with Niels'. Although Jimmy eventually won a frame, he got kicked out of the ring game, first. He was followed by Pascal Budo who ran out of luck, facing a virtually impossible layout to run out, each time it was his turn. Niels choked on a side pocket and left Ortmann and Das to play the final. Everybody would have put their money on 'The Machine', but Serge showed magnificent showmanship and outgunned the favorites. He cashed € 1.250,-

Oliver Ortmann at the Longoni Benelux 10 Ball Open

The Single Knock Out Side Event, Peter Graf € 500,-
As consolation, a side event was organised, so eliminated players could try to win (more) money. 16 participants played in single elimination format, race to 5.

All finals were played simultaneously and next to each other in the arena: The grand final, the losers final, as well as the final of the side event. The crowd of about 50+ spectators was enthusiastic and treated to great matches.

Niels Feijen at the Longoni Benelux 10 Ball Open

    In retrospect...
Organisation wise, everything went smoothly, from the schedule being 100% on time, the pool tables being in excellent condition, the watchful eye of referee Johnny van Rijkel and the fact that the contestants had a second chance to win (more) money, until the semi final, instead of most tournaments being single knock out from the last 32 (or 16). There were sufficient participants to guarantee the prize money and entire budget of the event. The sponsors were present, at some stage of the event. Pierluigi Longoni and the owners of De Loft, the venue, gave out the prizes to the winners: trophies and direct cash pay outs. And not to be taken for granted, De Loft organised a lovely barbecue for all the guests and put together a decent and healthy menu of generously topped sandwiches, spaghetti bolognese, lasagna etc. We rarely see that during pool billiards events.

We would like to send out a million thanks to the main sponsor LONGONI, as well as De Loft, a wonderful venue, Serge Das Billiards for fitting the tables beautifully, Loontjens for the excellent quality of their Gabriëls Clash X pool tables, so solid, Iwan Simonis for their unsurpassed 860 pool cloth, Stella Artois and last, but certainly not least, the Holiday Inn Garden Court in Leuven for putting together a special hotel offer during the event. We would also like to thank the staff of De Loft for their superb service and hospitality, as well as Rina van Heugten and Rachiem Rolobessy for making sure that the schedule was perfectly on time.

The event was such a success, that, together with LONGONI and De Loft, we already have the intention to stage a second edition of the LONGONI Benelux 10Ball Open, next year. It's going to be BIGGER, BETTER, STRONGER!
